@RABBI Shekel I knew about the red wedding, but I avoided watching the entire show until it was all finished. All of the spoilers I heard went in one ear and out the other since I didn't know any character names or locations to be able to make any sense of it. @@daryeusford9696 of course what Lord Walder did was inexcusable, but we all know Lord Walder was somewhat crazy and couldn’t forgive the broken oath. He wanted Robb as Son in law, not just Edmund. @@spirittammyk Yes she started to get suspicious but "Rains of Castamere" playing in the background was the final nail in the coffin. It's a Lannister song which tells a destruction of a house. Proudly sang by Lannisters. What's up with that playing here.. on a Northern wedding?
@Jake-oc3vx
@Jake-oc3vx 5 жыл бұрын
The song is "The Rains of Castemere" it was written and sung when Tywin at only the age of 14(maybe a little older) went and literally wiped out House Reyne. The house rebelled and Tywins father Tytos was seen as a joke by everyone so Tywin took care of the issue and people realized to fear a 14 year old boy and wrote the song to remember. It's now the considered the Song of the Lannisters.

I recommended this (book) series to my sister years ago before the show aired and every time she'd me tell she loves Robb and wishes he'd get fleshed out more, I'd just do a little cry-giggle to myself (because I agree). I vividly remember her calling me one night and when I picked up, the first thing she said was "Why did you do this to me, you demon???" And I knew instantly she read the chapter. I couldn't help but feel satisfied that it affected her as much as I was hoping lol

The Red Wedding was even more heart breaking in the books, more specifically Catelyn's death. It describes her sawing into her hostage's neck until she hit bone before her knife was taken away, then "crows clawing at her face" as she laughs, which we find out later was her clawing at her face in madness, and then as a knife is pressed to her throat, her last thoughts are "No! Don't let them cut my hair, Ned loves my hair!" Totally didn't cry

I love this reminder of the book scene. I will never forget the moments when I read it - I was so shaken, I couldn't internalize what was happening as I was reading. It was one of those times that a book is glued to your hands and no force can tear it away from you. Afterwards, I was just sitting there, gazing in blank space, trying to make sense of it all. The show was an amazing adaptation, but every moment pales in comparison to the book.

_It hurts so much,_ she thought. _Our children, Ned, all our sweet babes. Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb... Robb... please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting..._ The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. ‘‘Mad,’’ someone said, ‘‘she’s lost her wits,’’ and someone else said, ‘‘Make an end,’’ and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she’d done with Jinglebell, and she thought, _No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair._ Then the steel was at her throat, and its bite was red and cold.

It’s more apparent in the books what’s going on.

First Tulisa and the baby, then the horror of the slaughter inside and outside, then Greywind, all the whole we’re terrified for Arya just incase she’s dragged into it, then the brief relief when we see Robb and Cat - just enough to give you hope. Then BAM “I’ll find another”. It’s a service reactors provide in this episode to remind us we’re not all mad/over-reacting. This scene is brutal! 💔 Makes me tremble a bit thinking what they have in store for us come Season 8 😂🍻

there were actually a few hints at it in the book that set up the red wedding, the show replicated a couple. in the book tywin mentions to tyrion that some wars are won by sword while others are won by pen when tyrion asks what letter he is writing earlier in the book, which i think the show copied. Also, even though it was a written medium, the song "The Rains of Castamere" hints at it plenty, just a few chapters before the wedding the song is sung and history explained if i remember correctly, then in the sections leading up to the massacre, time is spent detailing how terrible the musicians were(since they were really just soldiers dressed up and acting like musicians) and slowly hinting how things are off, like the door closing and stuff which they capture well in the show. while it definitely is more blindsiding in the books due to the nature of tv and literature, it isnt completely unhinted at also that little bit of hope raising at the beginning of this episode, where robb and cat think of a new plan to win, is a lot more extensive in the books, even including a point where robb lays out a plan to legitimize jon snow so he can be his heir, really playing with the hopes of the readers, which GRRM is only too good at doing, he somehow always gets people so matter how many times he raises your hopes and crushes them.

The RW took almost a week to shoot & the actors had to go thru the scenes over & over. Yep! The chapter comes about midway through book 3, but he finished almost the entire book, skipping that scene entirely, and came back to it at the end when there was nothing else left to do. It's a really well-written chapter and feels almost surreal at the end with Catelyn basically going crazy from seeing the massacre of her kinsmen and family.

Robin - I feel like I keep telling people to watch the cast commentaries lately...but the Blu Ray's cast commentary for this episode are Michelle and Richard, and it's the first time they see the episode in its entirety. And it makes you cry as much for them as for their characters. You can find some of it on KZfaq. Seriously worth watching!

Another Novel Note: Something they don't explain in the show is why Grey Wind (Robb's Direwolf) was locked up. In "A Storm of Swords," when arriving at the Twins for the wedding, Grey Wind senses the pending betrayal and becomes very aggressive towards Lord Frey's men. Lord Frey uses Robb's desperation to regain his army as leverage and orders Grey Wind locked in the stables. This was left out of the show as the writers felt it would give away the big reveal.

DarkLight523 grey wind wasn’t butchered in a cage in the books either. One of the men was able to release Grey Wind and the direwolf tore several Frey’s to pieces before going down. I much prefer that version with the direwolf going down fighting then being shot like a fish in a barrel

With Ned is this shock, disbelief and sadness, Blackwater is confusing, who the hell are you even rooting for? I didn't know who I wanted to win the damned thing. "A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair." Joking aside, Robb was a military genius. But, Robb was a poor political leader. And, that was what sealed his fate. He allowed his blind friendship with Theon cost him his home. And, he allowed his love for Talisa to destroy a valued political alliance in addition to sullying his word. Compare Robb now to Jon Snow, who despite his love of Ygritte never forgets his duty to the realm. You're officially no longer "sweet summer children." And, Winter Is Coming.

That Red Wedding is one of the biggest reason that reaction videos exploded on KZfaq. People who had read the books knew what was coming and set cameras up to record the reactions of their friends who loved the show but had not read the books. The resulting videos were posted on KZfaq and became instant sensations. Clips of them appeared on nearly all of the TV talk and late night show and even the local and national news. Nikki's reaction is among the best of the best. It's why we love you guys.

It's really amazing that you guys didn't get this spoiled already, After all years have passed since they aired this. I remember the night i saw this. I was in shock for 20 minutes or so. Then i started reading the books and still cried at this part. (even if in the books Rob's wife does not die because she is not at the weding) Your reaction were so true to what is happening. And also (and i hope you don't get mad at me for saying it) She reminds me so much of the lead singer of Roxette and he does of the Punisher xD PS: i'm so glad they replaced the actor for Dario Naharis, i freaking hated his face!

This is one of those episodes that’s so shocking it becomes like a time capsule. I have a horrible memory but I remember watching this episode vividly. I had a routine when I was watching this show where I would treat myself to a bath with fancy bath bombs every Sunday and have a glass of wine and I’d watch the show on my laptop during my bath while my bf was in the living room gaming. I screamed so loud during the red wedding that my bf ran in thinking I had gotten hurt somehow and I was just like “NO they killed them all!” He was very confused 😂

The red wedding scene is beyond brutal. Definitely an image I haven’t forgotten since the first time I saw this episode. I knew this episode would be horrific for you guys to watch. I can’t even decide if it’s the most brutal scene in the entirety of GoT, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the show so I’m basically recapping along with you as you watch for the first time. Hugs to you both! If it helps, The Punisher Season 2 starts on January 12th!! 😁💙

Now read the ending of the book chapter (from Catelyn‘s perspective), that will definitely make you feel „better“ ;) _It hurts so much,_ she thought.

MrColler123 Oh I swear if they’d made Catelyn go this batshit crazy people really would have just not been able to sleep for days after. I think they deliberately toned it down for tv and it was still dark. Just Imagine!

Loked420, or watch the correlating season(s) lore videos after each book, since they do a decent job of following along with the books for the seasons that they can follow. Some of the book's get split up in the later seasons and then obviously it gets to a point where they go past it, but the later Seasons just means that once she's finished with book 3 she can watch the lore videos for season 3 and 4. Especially since the Lore videos will remind her of stuff that kind of gets buried under a shit ton of information. I want to say that a couple of them aren't even mentioned in the books, but are in the History of Westeros book. I could be completely wrong about that. I think it helps for the series because it's all the lore that goes around with the show but they can't put in otherwise every episode would be a movie. They don't use all of the lore of Westeros, just the lore that pertains to what they use in the show, especially places that they mention that we will never see because there's not enough time.
