Oh man the one that still haunts me is in Haunting Grounds, where one you died the game over screen would show but you’d still be able to hear what your killer is doing afterwards - and it’d change depending on who killed you. A TERRIBLE TIME FOR YOUNG ME LETS JUST SAY THAT.

Where ‘easy mode is now selectable’ joke? Great video, I never really thought about game over screens, but you’re right. Every part of a game can be used to express something, and a dev who goes above and beyond to make proper use of those parts should be called out and praised.

I certainly do miss the creative Game Over screens on a few games, at this point for many it seems to be an after thought, but when there is flair or depth to it? Ho boy, I am all for it.

There are few game over screens that get to me like FFVIII's. I don't really like the game itself but the broken blade really sells the tragedy. Other favorites of mine are Liquid's manic laughter in MGS1, being taunted by THEM in MGS2, the way the screen bleeds away in SOTN, and my recent beloved Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion and its MANY amazing game over screens. this is such a great video that really awoke memories! passing this one around

Quality content as usual, I agree that they add so much character in a game and can provoke an interesting thought or a neat glance at the consequences of failure. They just don't do it enough anymore.

The Arkham games do a very nice job in this regard.

Banjo Kazooie best game over of all time

SotN's game over used to scare me somethin' bad, but nothing was as scary as Banjo Kazooie. I used to turn off the console, so I didn't watch it.

I cant believe the Arkham games were not mentioned. A little insulting to get you vengeful while being short enough to not be annoying. Also just full of personalities based on who killed you. The joker taunting you is different from the riddler taunting you for example
