Persona 5 is the GOTY

2017 has been an outrageous year in gaming. My top 10 would be: 1. NieR: Automata 2. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 3. Horizon: Zero Dawn 4. Super Mario Odyssey 5. Nioh 6. Cuphead 7. Assassin’s Creed: Origins 8. Nex Machina 9. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (8,3) 10. Yakuza 0 I have yet to play Persona 5 (which I sense could go to the top), Resident Evil 7, Wolfenstein 2 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 as well as many, many other prominent titles in this spectacular gaming year.

PUBG has absolutely no fucking place being in the GOTY discussion period. Lol

Awesome having Terri in the mix when she's at the office! I'm right there with you Terri with regard to DK64. It introduced me to the original DK (it took me FOREVER to get that Nintendo coin), which made me really appreciate the history and progress that DK had made through the years. I have extremely fond memories of DK64. One of my favorite games from that era hands down.

Pokemon Snap! is another one of those games that is just one of my favorite from the era. So immersive getting to see the pokemon in their natural environments and the satisfaction you got when nailed that perfect shot, so rewarding. I think the Switch would be an awesome platform for a sequel (which I've been hoping for for a long time). P.S. Justin, there is a boost button in PK Snap that allows you to accelerate the craft that Todd is in.

Switch games for 2018: Fire Emblem Kirby Star Allies Yoshi Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Project Octopath Traveler Although I don't think any of these are the type to win GOTY awards.

Pokemon snap would of worked good on the 3ds. We're there any AR games made for 3ds? Weird concidering the 3ds was boxed with those cards. My favourite fictional video games thingy is Beemo.

What a great year for gaming. My goty is Super Mario Odyssey but you could easily switch it out with Breath of the Wild or Horizon Zero Dawn and still have a very deserving game

Isn't the .Hack games on PS2 or did they release on Gamecube as well?

I never played Super Metroid until it came out on Wii U Virtual Console, and I L O V E D it! I got so lost in that game. I played it for weeks. I would totally attest that that game stands the test of time and you can go back to play it with no prior experience and still have a blast.

you can accelerate your vehicle in pokemon snap . I believe you have to unlock that though. :) great episode btw

Feel old.... playing as a kid on an Atari with Centipede, Asteroid, mission command before moving onto the NES... favourite game of the year is easily Zelda: breath of the wild... really enjoyed playing this... I used to love buying CVG and Gamesmaster as a kid..

There are 8 Mega Man X-games and the bosses i X are called Mavericks.

As far as Nintendo games coming out next year, we know 3 for sure are due out: Yoshi, Kirby, and a new Switch Fire Emblem game that we haven't heard anything about since the Fire Emblem Direct in the beginning of the year. Metroid Prime 4 may or may not be next year, and Pokemon is not supposed to be next year but it really depends on how far into development the project was when it was first announced.

I feel like Shadow of War was awesome but isn't discussed at all in GOTY discussions, it was the most fun I had all year.

Steamworld Dig 2 not nominated... Too bad that SD2 was kind of overlooked. It is one of the best indies experiences I've ever had (Stardew Valley is the top one, but SD2 and the original pixel-art Spelunky come close).

My favorite game of ign top 10 of 2017 is Nier Automata, my personal favorite game I have played this year is Gravity Rush 2 and the games I am looking forward to in 2018 are Spider-Man and Kingdom Hearts 3.

Another great show from the scoop team. Mario would be totally broken with a jetpack, as far as some of the various bonus areas and stars you need to jump to get. Animal Crossings with jet packs could be fun though. :)

Fallout 4 VR, a sort of re-release for a transformative platform.

I have never played Breath of the Wild and I'm certainly not a Nintendo fanboy having been the "proud" owner of every Sega console since the Megadrive but if anything else wins game of the year I'll be a bit gutted. My personal game of the year is Shadow of war. I have put about 60 hours into it and I haven't bought a single loot box.

really? I played the first legend of zelda for the first time (because botw was coming) this year and i thought it was incredible. The original metroid was also great. I did play megaman and it is fun but it isn't great.. it's just a hard platformer in my mind. I don't think it really did anything special whereas zelda and metroid were revolutionary. That's just my opinion though.

BOTW is an 8.5 at best.
