Guys, I know Orange Shirt kid submitted the dance as a contest entry -- it was just a dramatic device for framing the episode around whether arguing if Orange Shirt owns the dance. Technically, all contest submissions would be owned by Epic. I just liked the hypothetical. Also, in case you missed it, I already had a note about Roy Purdy in the episode (along the bottom of the screen). But since it's "Orange Justice," I figured it'd make sense to give credit to him.

In defense of the carlton dance, you mentioned that simple dance moves cant be copyrighted, as they are building blocks to make dances that are copyrighted, so by that logic he should've won the case, since he was combining two simple dances from two different properties to create his own distinct thing.

This might get buried, but Fortnite enquired about the default dance and got permission. Direct quote from Bill Lawrence, creator and executive producer of Scrubs: "Fortnite had to enquire for the legal… for the legality of it, and it’s fine because it’s just a character dancing". Donald Faison (Turk) isn't as pleased tho.

also the default dance is free, so even if he did make a case he might not even get anything from it, since epic is not profiting off of it

@@Richboy12345 Nothing is free. Having a free dance available draws in people and creates downstream revenue. The value may be harder to calculate, but any aspect of the game that adds value would be considered a source of some portion of the profit. A jury would have to figure out how to put a number on it and that number would be really just a guess. But it isn't zero.

Ok, MatPat, Yes, they did change the Dance System. Now if it's from another person who created before Epic Games, they put the emote in Icon Series like Lazer Blast, Keep It Mello, Marsh Walk and so much more!
