Nowadays, Pokemon travel on your journey to becoming the best there ever was has evolved. It used to be your feet and a bike. Now, you you can ride on Pokemon in your party as a travel option. I always assumed Chaizard(and maybe Dragonite) had a bloated belly because it held gas that was less dense than air to help it float AND exhaust fire. Evan as a kid, I knew those wings could not support the weight.

Since FLY was a move you had to unlock, being an HM move, then I just thought it gave your Pokémon a superpower move hence a small pidgey being able to carry my character. Ah the simplicity of just enjoying a game back in the day xD

It makes sense though. The whole point is that move types are the element the Pokemon taps into. Squirtle generates water from nowhere, Abra uses psychic powers, Makuhita has unreasonable strength compared to its size and weight, and Pidgey uses what's effectively air magic to create far more lift than what a mundane real-world bird could generate.

update from Paldea Corviknights are chased after by Tinkatons for their armor, which shut down the whole taxi service. Therefore Paldea took the "many small" birds approach via Squawkabilly. maybe someone at gamefreak was listening?

Also, Pokemon of almost all kinds are probably several times stronger than normal animals of similar shape and size, an that's without accounting for any superpowers. Just imagine the evolutionary pressure in that world, even humans would be insanely strong if they had to survive there long enough to develop Pokemon training skills. Also, they could have a thicker atmosphere because this is definitely not Earth, but then again the gravity might be stronger and would have to be calculated by observing someone or even a Pokemon of known mass jumping up and timing the fall from the top of the jump.

@@krzysztofczarnecki8238 thick atmosphere isn't like having thicker soup, it wouldn't really make it that much easier to fly. And having stronger gravity would in fact mean that these bird pokemon would need to be even smaller to be able to fly (stonger gravity means more pressure on bones meaning the bones would either have to be lighter or more dense, and if the bones get too big they'd essentially collapse under the weight). Aviation isn't as simple as "stonger animal means can fly" it's a whole lot of other factors that all work together in a complex balancing act to even achieve flight.

The biggest pterosaurs had tiny body and legs, with wings made out of pure skin, no feathers included. They also had a single larger finger compared to the multiple in birds and bats.

Aerodactyle is based on Pteradons, who actually got pretty big. Unlike birds who use their legs to get off the ground, because they actually jump to get started, Pteradons are thought to have actually pushed themselves off the ground with their arms. Seeing as Quetzulquatlus is basically confirmed to have flown, and is the largest flying creature to have done so. Its tiny legs couldn't get it off the ground, but those arms could.

It's not just Lugia and Ho-oh that manipulate the air and wind, you don't need to be a legendary pokemon to do that. Being a flying type pokemon means they have advanced control over the element of air and wind, that's how they use moves like Hurricane and Air Slash.

Except that's from a guy multiple centuries ago, and he was wrong. He thought that no bug could fly, because (since he didn't have access to high speed cameras at the time) he believed that bugs (and hummingbirds) flapped their wings up and down to fly, when, in reality, they move their wigs in a sideways eight pattern (also known as the infinity pattern), which makes flying easier and more maneuverable, with a higher mass limit than what's available by vertical flapping of the wings.

Horses can still be dangerous. If they become startled they can flop around and knock you off. Or if someone’s behind them they could kick them. They’re certainly not as aggressive as their cousins the zebras. But still can be dangerous.

I saw this video about a year and a half ago and liked it so much, that I applied the math to a couple of my characters to see if they could fly(and a couple of other characters that were my friend's.) Apparently, my character could lift an extra 30 or so pounds while my friend's character was 5-10 pounds off from carrying his own weight meaning he was not able to fly. I came back to this video because I still like the math on it and should probably do it again on a couple of my characters due to the fact they have all gone through several redesigns. I love your videos Mr. MattPatt, thanks for teaching me science and math and disturbing facts that make my friends and mom very concerned about my mental health

@@dalekin3177 According to gamefreak Salamance flys by hovering Midair statically. Before gen 6, Salamance was always depicted as a grounded menace. The square cube law would apply to any flying build, with it only going out the window for bugs. For instance, bee’s fly by moving their wings in a swimming motion, since at that size air essentially acts as a fluid, rather then a gas. If we’re going by flying lizards, then we are looking at pterosaurs, the only time the lizard faction has taken to the sky’s properly. The largest flying lizard was the Quetzalcoatl, and its wings were massive in comparison to its body. By that alone, we can see that Charizard is grounded. It’s wings are pathetic for a creature that fat and large.

@Deborah Ajao It's not that his point doesn't still stand, it's just that he didn't mention that rather significant detail. Both the Bald Eagle AND the Great-horned Owl are Birds of Prey, and Birds of Prey are known for being gliders; the phrase "like condors circling above" exists for good reason. This is done to conserve energy, similar to how joggers pace themselves in marathons, rather than go full-sprint right out the starting gate. Energy efficiency is all about working smarter, not harder, after all. ;3

That actually would make sense because the pokemon universe always seems like it has no fall damage or very minimal (of course for the height. If team rocket can walk away from at least a kilometer long fall, let alone be alive, that's extremely minimal)

If you used 20 of the final evolved form of flechling, talonflame,it would probably work because talonflame look very similar to your normal eagle. Also, imagine riding on a taxi lifted up by talonflame, and then the driver says, “Use Flamecharge!” and the talonflame go ten times faster for 5 min, so cool.
