In today's video I'm looking at James' Game Boy Pocket which works, however it has a badly scorched / burnt screen. I've picked up a replacement kit from AliExpress (which is here - s.click.aliexp... ) and in the video I'm trying to fit it and fix the GameBoy Pocket once and for all.. Can I do it?

I have tried doing the polarizer replacement too and like vince it was an absolute nightmare i ended up replacing the screen it didnt cost me anything to attempt it as was a working but scrap screen and i had some polarizer film from ebay to repair my multimeter

I had this same problem on my OG Gameboy. I'm not sure what causes the burnout, but I always assumed it was due to heat or sunlight. Funnyplaying makes really excellent game boy screens. They are a bit pricey, but I feel they are worth every penny!

Great video Kip, id have definitely tapped the green wire from the power switchto keep it as short and tidy as possible, the end result look amazing though 👍🏼

@@kiphakesI did watch! I'm enjoying the exploration you're going through with it. I believe your glass diode are most likely germanium diodes. They use color bands similar to resistors. You can look up germanium diodes color band chart on Google and find some answers. For instance the green yellow diode is likely 1N54A 50V 5MA diode. The red band diode may likely be a 1N60 Schottky Barrier Rectifier (diode) rates for 600V.

Nice Job Kip👍 I'm wondering if it would be better to take the 3.3V from after the power switch rather than the battery compartment. I'm not sure if there could be a possible battery drain over time, or if there is some kind of switching circuitry on the mod kit so it might not be an issue.

I've literally just tried to do the same thing. Ordered the bivert chip and backlight. While trying to remove the front polariser, I slipped and sliced the ribbon cable. IPS scren it is then :(
