I play a card game like that. Too many generally inconsequential rules that only come up in obscure circumstances to explain them all when you start, so it feels like you're making stuff up when playing with new people.

In my part of Germany we actually just call it "Chinesisches Schach" (Chinese chess) so I guess it varies. But I would definitely sign a petition to change it to Arnold's suggestion

I have many fond memories of playing Mancala against myself as an only child. Though, I didn't know any of the fancy rules, so it was just sorring colorful stones into the pockets until one side won. It was a good way to ignore the socially debilitating loneliness. Glad you guys are playing these again!

Arin and Dan here is some history of Chinese checkers The current game was invented in Germany in 1892 under the name “Stern-Halma” as a variation of the older American game Halma. The “Stern” (German for star) refers to the board's star shape. It can be played by two, three, four, or six people, playing individually or with partners.
