Thank you for this conversation, its very interesting to see that successful veterans in game development and game media come to the conclusion that polishing the core experience is the most important part of developing and even when conceptualizing a game and understanding the core experience if a franchise is formed because one game was a big hit.

The Zen of Gamedesign - Nintendo RD1 and RD2 follow this idea since they existed. One of probably 100 gameplay ideas that stuck and excited everyone in a ton of prototypes and then only this one idea is perfected, mastered and the rest built ontop of it and tested if they alter the core experience too much or just in the right way. Its literally exactly like growing a Bonsai tree.
