I love what they've done with Caraxes' design. He's like this weird perversion of the usual bulky dragons (e.g. Vhagar here and Drogon in GOT) -- much leaner, and with a weirdly long neck and short stubby feet. Really feels like a good match for Daemon's character, as well as also being easy to recognise on screen

I've never seen a show that puts so much effort in being spatially consistent. And episode 7 drove that home even further, the whole island on which it was set was a real place and not just a backdrop. The distances and the perspectives all added up. This must have taken an insane amount of effort, but all I can say is that it's worth it. It's noticeable and it's appreciated.

I totally agree about the Egyptian inspiration being in the mix, especially with the dynastic incestuous marriages which were practiced by the pharaohs. I also think the legend of Atlantis plays some part in the “real” inspiration - an advanced civilisation that suffered a catastrophic event causing its destruction, rumoured to have great knowledge of magic and science or some mixture. Just love the depth of the stories in the world.

This is why we didn't see Laena Velaryon claim Vhagar - because Aemond does it as well, and having two characters claim the same dragon as children would have been repetitive storytelling. Better that we witness the character who lives on to play a larger role in the plot claim the oldest living dragon than the one who, unfortunately, largely exists in the plot to pump out children!

I like how Martin and Miguel have given the Dragons their own personality as well as being technically slaves. Rhaenyra in one of trailers says, they are a power men should not have trifled with. Though not Tolkien’s dragons like Smaug who intellectually superior, I like how there are some similarities especially with magic. It gives more weight to what Ramon Djwadi said about Drogon recognising the Throne as evil, just like the one ring was. I wonder if when the books are finished or if Martin releases notes of what happens, whether the Dragon’s will be their own race within the world.

I love the way George R.R. Martin says something about what would someone do with a dragon, would they use that power? he would burn cities and armies? Something similar to what Tyrion says to John Snow, that he already rode a dragon and had the power but didn't use it. Also about the particular way that sometimes dragons have certain similarities with their riders like Caraxes with Daemon, he does not deny it but he does not say that it is totally true either, it can vary depending on the situation and the way in which the rider and the dragon come together , there is no doubt that this is the author of this work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Quote about Vhagar by Ryan Condall really reminds me of George Martin's first novel "Dying of the Light" and character Bretan Braith ( who has one eye and glowstone for his other) "Dirk almost felt sorry for them. They were misfits, he decided, more outcast and more alone than Dirk himself, worldless in a sense, because High Kavalaan had moved beyond them and could be their world no longer. No wonder they came to Worlorn; they belonged here. They and all their ways were dying. Bretan in particular was a figure of pity, Bretan who tried so hard to be a figure of fear. He was young, perhaps the last true believer, and he might live to see a time when no one felt as he did. Was that why he was teyn to Chell? Because his peers rejected him and his old man’s values? Probably, Dirk decided, and that was grim and sad."

I had no issues seeing things during the night-time scenes. If you can't see things during the night scene, maybe you're TV is set to an inaccurate picture mode. There are industry standards for SDR/HDR, colour, black levels, etc. and there's a reason TV calibration services exist, to make your TV match those standards. Also, a lot of the streams for HotD are likely quite low bitrates, leading to heavier compression artifacts (they can look like a bunch of weird blocks everywhere) during night-time sequences like that. Compression artifacts won't be an issue on blurays/4K blurays due to their higher bitrates.

@@krismate2895 Thanks for the lecture, Professor. But there are no problems with my TV or its calibration. A large majority of viewers found it too dark and there's even mainstream media discussing the problem today. It's nothing to do with people's TVs and everything to do with HotD's post production grading. They had a similar issue with the Battle of Winterfell episode in GoT and literally had to lighten up the grading before DVD release. Seeing as this is a widespread problem, you must be special.

@@jenni5104 Large majority of viewers? So, every viewer has weighed in with their opinion and the “large majority” of those thinks it’s too dark? Either your TV is setup properly for the room environment and you have no issues seeing the performances by the actors and visibility or it’s not and you can’t see things properly. And if you’re tv’s setup properly and have no issues with visibility, why does it need to be brighter? What does that accomplish? It’s a scene taking place at night with clouds and only the moonlight as a light source. Brightening only serves to look unnatural and goes against the creative decision. I can guarantee you, after having worked for Geek Squad in the past, 90% of people don’t have their TVs setup properly, that’s why they complain things are too dark.

@@krismate2895 so if i see all other shows properly and just Hot d in gray tone - it`s my display setup problem?:)

@@DeVitar it’s a creative decision. Again, if you find it too dark and can’t see what’s going on, yes, your display isn’t setup properly and/or not calibrated. Dune did the same thing with the night-time desert scenes. If it’s too hard to see, because your TV isn’t calibrated, that’s YOUR problem, not the creators. My TV is calibrated and I had no issues with the scene or being able to see the performances of the actors.
