The speed that Hyce turned back from "presenting-a-tech-demo-of-th-team's-great-game" mode to "goofy let'splay with Hyce" mode after messing with the whistles was funny

I really like how you said that you didn’t want it to be a job. I was really scared that it would be too realistic and not be that fun to play, but man, this put all of my concerns and worries to ease. Keep it up, Studio 346! The game is looking fantastic so far, and it’ll only get better with time!

Driving trains is only half of what the game is supposed to offer. So I'm really looking forward to showcasing the management side of things - track building, handling/setting up logistics -, so the core gameplay loop. :)

Oh my goodness, tooltips on the loading screens from the real world workshops would be an amazing addition to those animations!

Options are good, so I'm glad to hear it will cater to simmers and more casual gamers alike. The demo looks and sounds great. I look forward to checking it out

When Mark was showing off the whistle options I saw the Petticoat 3 chime, Im 100% using 4-6-0 that Mark is using in this demo and naming it Hooterville Cannonball

I thought I did not care that much about whistle sounds... but my eyes literally teared up during that first grade crossing. Also I adore that little ram mascot y'all put in the tutorial and loading screen, maybe it's the Over the Garden Wall nostalgia but I love when people put little animals in old-timey outfits.

I had just opened the comments to say how it looked fantastic, but thought it was a shame that you had a bit in the opening blurb about “watching your speed and switches or you might have a fantastic wreck”, and as I was about to start typing I hear Smells like Kenosha start to play. Oh me of little faith, even putting the train in the dirt looks fantastic, well done.

As a railfan from Central Europe (Czech Republic) i honestly can´t wait to see it on final release. Back then i wasn´t much a fan of US Steam Locos but thanks to Railroads Online i changed my mind. I absolutely love these whistles with echoes, gives me goose bumps :D Good to know that this game is made by guys who literally works with these engines so you know it´s a quality. Screw Train Simulator, this is the future of train games.

really cool that the cutoff simulation is realistic instead of just 100% throttle and 100% reverser; very nice attention to detail!

I don't know why I didn't expect realistic derailing... Didn't even really consider it but I'm glad that its here. Realism takes away from the pain that I messed up lol. Ya'll are doing wonderful work!!

This is the most excited I've been for a game since AC6 and that was like 10 years of anticipatory buildup lol

This looks great for a prototype! So much groundwork is in place already. It seems to me like locomotive sounds and the heat blur shader still need some work, both for more detail and less artifacting. But that's polishing work for later I think. I also noticed that the minimap seems to have some lag/smoothing compared to the camera motion, which I found quite distracting at the start of the footage. But otherwise, it's looking really good. I am very excited for the release, whenever it's ready!

I'm very excited to hear that you'll have some differing levels of firing realism/challenge. For myself, who likely won't play multiplayer since I don't have friends who share the interest I have in the sorta deep dive nerdy detail stuff, It will be good to have the detailed realistic simulation on the engineer's side without having to worry about the fire too. And vise versa, if I want to go back to my power engineering days and fire the boiler realistically I can do that. Excellent work!

Things are looking wicked good so far! The demo looks very pretty, and the realism feels like it's getting right up there with Derail Valley Simulator. I can definitely tell you have lots more to do, but this demo looks like it did/does a great job giving a taste of what the game will look and feel like. Keep up the good work Studio 346, I can hardly wait for your next update video!

10:40 “oil firing and running at the same time is really hard, and we don’t want to wish that on anyone…” I volunteer (well, now work) at The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo Railroad running the steam engines. Both of our engines have the oil firing controls on the engineer side; I believe they did this so the trains could be run by one person if needed (which we never do thank God). So we HAVE to oil fire and run at the same time. I can attest it is quite difficult at first 😂.

This demo, and the convention in general, absolutely made my year. Cheers, mate!❤😊

This little sneak peak absolutely blew me away. From the sounds to visuals, to how the locomotive worked. Thank you for the various difficulty settings. I tend to run single player alot so not having to worry about firing will be a lifesaver (looking at you DV, still a great game tho) X3 Also didnt expect the train to "fall apart" when derailing. No more will it be a simple, oh just grab the derail tool and stick it on the tracks. Looking forward to this officially releasing. Keep up the good work

Absolutely breathtaking work, thank you! Twenty years ago, I was blown away by MS Train Sim, and had great fun creating the first interurban electric cars available for download. We were impressed with the ability to build models with a massive 5k poiy count! Your work makes possible that which was a beautiful dream.

Phenomenal (doo doo doodoodoo) looking already. Items of note: The whistles sound a bit synthesized during fast transients, slower movements sound good. The heat haze would likely benefit from a slider, or a slight reduction overall. The lighting is amazing, and the night looks great. Looks kinda like Unreal Engine to me, with the highlighting trace jitter thing. Is the intention to have objects selectable through walls? Are there plans to change the PC movements based on game mode (run speed, jump height, etc)? Looking amazing thus far. Can't wait for more!

You know... it would be super cool to have the demo released on steam or something for the rest of us to check out. Nothing extra than what was in the NNGC demo. It would just be really cool to experience it.

Feel like there should be an option for more lower profile UI. I appreciate the ornated stuff just feel like I might not want to many things cluttering up my screen and getting in the way. They seem a little bit distracting. Maybe something like fully ornated to just bare bones symbols and sliders or an opacity setting and something like that

I'm really excited for this one. Very looking forward to operate these locos with all their complexity.

Wonderful video! I enjoyed it a lot, but since you mentioned you guys are adding whistles, I wanted to suggest the whistle on the Pikes Peak Incline engine #4, I feel likes it’s a really unique whistle!
