With all the hype for the ps5 and project Scarlett it is always nice to go back and rewatch all PS4 and XBone videos!

I really like how you talk about things like this, you don't just say positive things, you go into some good detail, and it's just awesome.

ps4 needs a game like shenmue 3 on it to get the hardcore gamers.

Just wanted to say Adam, the DVD and CD laser are the same technology just different wavelengths of light and are inherently backwards compatible. Since it can play DVDs it theoretically can play CDs too. Sony for whatever reason just didn't build it into the software. Maybe that will be apart of the media update.

Solid video. I agree about the controller its a big step up over Dualshock 1-3. The ps5 controller looks even better. As a kid dint mind PS2 controller but nowadays that I'm older it's dated too small and not comfortable.

Sounds awesome! I still an mostly thinking of switching over to PC gaming overall (though not for "AAA" games, since I personally want to keep to Linux with Steam...just a personal choice), but at heart I love console gaming! I probably will get one of these after a price drop and after I have a steady job with savings :) My PS3 will feel neglected though :c Oh! AdamKoralik I also just got my first Dreamcast! I was able to get some Sonic Adventure DLC onto it (Just a theme, working on other themes too), and I got a VGA cable (coming from HK, so it'll be a while. It wasn't a box, just the cable itself, so yeah)! Thanks for your videos on DC and whatnot :)

Thanks for all the informative videos about the Playstation 4 that you produced relatively quickly. As for upgrading the hard drive, are there some higher capacity hard drives you would recommend (preferably high rpm) or even some SSDs? I probably won't get a PS4 for a while, but when I do I probably want to have more memory than 500GB due to the games and the OS.

Had a ps4 but i really wasn't in a rush to get any consoles in this gen until the mid gen refreshes like xbox one s and x

In the 90's and early 00's I would use my Jaguar CD to listen to music CDs. It has that great Virtual Light Machine that would make different colors and shapes to the music and make it really enjoyable to watch. But I haven't used a CD in almost 7 years since MP3 came out. Also the PS3 has the R3000 PS1 CPU in it. So its more then a lack of laser that prevents the PS4 from playing PS1 games.

I love that you use Transformers the movie as your dvd reference. Thumbs up man.

THIS is the video form you I've been waiting for. Because you are more of a down-to-earth realist I can take what you say right at face value. HDMI only? Gonna have to shovel money out for a new TV if I get this. At least someone else thinks that the PS controller designs just don't work for some people. Sensor thing is actually a button? WHAAAAAAAT? The limited Hard Drive for this and the Xbox1 is the main thing that will probably disinspire me from getting either console, unless they pull some really crazy stuff. I bet a large reason why this is the first Sony Console not heavily weighted with all the multi-media stuff was the flop of the PS3's launch. Blu-Ray, DVD, MP3, Flashdrive, PS1/2 games, and toaster! It kinda worked against them due to the high cost and low sales, so this gen they slimmed down...I don't think any Sony console since the PS1 had that little 'extra' stuff on it. I know the PS2 was the most successful system in terms of units sold, but A) Does the casual/semi-hardcore gamer have PS2 games still?, and B) To only play one of the three prior installments, and not even the last one, will seem strange to many people. Sucks about the DVD region hertz things. Thanks again for doing this for all of us Adam. Thumbs up.

Thank you Adam for the overall review - the console sounds great but what killed it for me was the 500gb hardrive and the amount of space these games take up. I was considering picking up a ps4 for Destiny, Bloodborne, and Sony's other great exclusives, but it looks like I'll have to wait it out until they release some later models with more storage space.

i wish the ps4 played ps1 games my ps1 laser stopped working and i don’t know what’s wrong with it so that would’ve been nice for ps1 support i want to play games like Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Tekken 3 Gran Turismo etc. without having to either replace my laser or buy a ps2/ps3

You probably know this already, but I am posting this for other people to know as well. The region lock on media discs of movies (blu-rays, dvds) is software. You can bypass this and watch everything you want easily with a program called anydvd (and any dvdhd for blu-rays) The playstation being a proprietary console of Sony, I don't think they will ever allow their console to be region free concerning movies. The reason for the annoyance in the first place is simple, they publisher of a film holds the rights to sell it only to one region. I think it's really stupid, because art is supposed to be universal, but that's not how the movie publishers see it , obviously. It used to make sense before the internet era somewhat, when you couldn't really see things before they were released on your territory (In order for movies to not be still playing in theaters AND be available on dvds elsewhere etc), but I think the system shouldn't have existed in the first place. Bottom line, if you have a computer that reads blu-rays and/or dvds, you can play any movie you want. It just takes a little bit of work. Once your drive recognizes the disc, you are set. All of this crap is software locked, not physically locked.

I used the PSX music CD feature as a kid, I didn't have enough cash for a CD player after I saved up for my PSX and N64 haha It was convenient, but that was back in the 90's - I haven't used a music CD in AGES.

Are you using Open Broadcaster Software? i can clearly see some distortion on the camera if movement is captured.

If you get a vita, do it before the revision comes state side, the revision drops the amoled screen. Sony can't emulate ps2 hardware because of licencing reasons, they only had the right to use them in PS2 not ps3 or 4. I love my ps4. :-)

PS4 is probably going down as my favorite console of all time, n64 and gamecube were kinda tied for a long time (Even though PS3 came close to beating those) The Return of amazing Resident Evil Games, Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy, God of War 2018, Spider Man 2018, Final Fantasy VII, Dreams, LittleBigPlanet 3, Until Dawn, Gravity Rush remastered and 2, Tearaway: Unfolded, Crash Nsane Trilogy, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsuhima, TLOU Remastered and TLOU part 2, All the MLB Games, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, Monster Hunter: World, Detroit: Become Human, and all the awesome PSVR games Like Astrobot and Resident Evil 7! I never would of thought we would see the sequel to the PS2 but with the PS2 we did, I just hope Sony does even better with the PS5 now that they seem to have so many franchises to go at the start of this gen unlike the 8th one!

I laughed at the whole music cd bit..I actually did use the ps1 for music cds when the ps1 was out on the market because it was in my father's living room and we use to play cards in the living room and wanted to listen to music while doing that.

"Broadband cable" is not the right term. It is called "Ethernet cable". There are many different type of cables that can be in the category "broadband" for an example: Fiber optic, coxial, telephone lines etc. So it would be confusing calling tbis broadband cable.

It's very interesting to watch this again four years later. lol Only a few of the issues have really been fixed. Finally external harddrive support is here but the other annoyances are still there. I guess that's what happens when it's basically a PC with a Playstation OS on it instead of Windows. lol

0:08:29 A small problem with this is the 2.5-inch HDD's current max data size. Yes, it's at 1.5TB now, but those are not cheap. 1TB isn't too bad at the moment though. Well, let's get to the problem. The problem is the physical discs have started to reach their max. It keeps getting harder and hard to push more data into one plate and these 2.5-inch are so small you can't really have that many plates. SSD might be able to catch up to it eventually though. We'll see what happens. In any case, you can always just go ahead and purchase your own HDD and replace the one in the console. External storage is for anything but downloads pretty pointless at this point, because USB isn't that fast and doesn't offer a lot of advantages over just playing the games directly from the blu-ray. In any case, external storage is just another security hole (so people can mod their consoles) at this point. Will probably happen pretty quickly anyways.

im a fan about ps series and i actually liked ps3 but im kind of disapointed of the ps3 and ps4, because its kinda gamer friendly but not so home-gamer friendly because i owned a ps2 and i used it every day not only to play but to watch dvd,s. and i can do it now on ps3 but i hope they repair that on the ps4. Me personally hate that the PS4 came out the box with limitations. They maybe small to others, but very large to me. At this moment the PS4 is in a lower class then the PS3. I can't customize, no music player, no blue tooth printer...these are some of the things that bother me. I was hoping for much more and the little changes are NOT enough!!! PS3 owners thinking about getting a PS4...I say WAIT until things get better.

I can understand not liking the dual shock controller and thinking its "not as comfortable as X" but saying it is a bad design is asinine. It set the standard for controller design. Dual analog and stereo rumble functipn. You can say that the n64 controller was the gennissis of the dual shock, but the dual shock still set the standard for everything that followed.

BTW, do you plan to make another Wii Mini video? It looks like it will now be released in the U.S. as well...what is Nintendo thinking?

Adam, I personally like that the PS4 is kind of bare-bones; I have other things like my laptop or PS3 where I can do things like play CDs, PS & PS2 games, MP3s, etc. Besides, by omitting some of those features, it likely makes the system cheaper for consumers. I may be in the minority, but I mainly buy systems for the games, not the other features.

i wish I could play MP3s, DLNA would be cool as well. I also wish we could use bluetooth and/or USB headsets. Sony did say that they under estimated media features how much people some people want them and that its something they will add later. Going back to your point, since its software, it can be changed. I like how the UI looks, but I wish i had more control over the game icons. For example, being able to placed Killzone or Knack so its always the first icon, etc. But all that stuff can be changed. I like the system hardware wise. Although a controller I bought, its light bar always shuts off after about a minute. Not sure why.

Me personally I don't care if my PS4 can't play PS3/2/1 games. I'll play PS3 games on my PS3. If I had still had my PS2/1 from all those years back I'd be playing those games on my CRT TV along with all my other retro systems. I love how KZ uses the touch pad! Just swipe in the direction of the command you want to give your owl and unleash it. Simple but very effective while gaming. I haven't seen any bugs in KZ at all. Also, when I updated my PS4 I had no issues at all. The update took less than 5 minutes and everything has gone very smoothly for me. Don't forget to play Resogun! That game is badass! :-D

How easy is it to install a higher capacity HDD? Is it similar to the PS3 where you could just open a panel & slide the HDD out? Also 100GB for the OS? Wow, what does it need all that space for? Even a computer OS like Windows or Mac OS only need about 10-20GB.

Me again. Do you think it's on purpose that they release smaller HDDs at launch? I mean, looking online I see there is like a $10-$20, if any difference, in price between a 500GB and a 1TB. I mean, you can't tell me that they couldn't produce enough 1TBs for launch, or it'd be too expensive for them. I'm not hating on Sony, because I think Xbox One is the same way, but why? My 1TB drive was like $70+tax, to get a 500GB drive it was between $50-$70 too, depending on it's brand and what not.

I hate gloss black it's dirty in half a second so I have ordered a wrap for my xbox so it protects it from scratches

So realistically no big complaints. Btw blu ray and dvd both region locked. This is why HD DVD was better had no region protection at all. Wish you'd of gone into the interface a little more.

If the PS4 can play DVD's it can play original Playstation games for sure through emulation. PS2 is a bit harder to emulate because of the Emotion Engine, but it can be done as well, just w/more effort. The reason why Sony didn't include backwards-compatibility is because they want to charge you for it. It's that simple. They've already announced they'll be streaming games via their Gaikai service.

The xbox 360 launch model only had a 12gb HDD and it was a nightmare trying to transfer all that memory with a 64 megabyte memory card.

The annoying thing about the PS4 is that slanted design makes it *very* awkward to sit on shelves. The back should really be flat from a practical POV.
