rayzimmermin Actually the PS1 (original mode), PS2 (original and very late slims), PS3 Slim and Super Slim, as well as PS4 all can be powered by the same cable, the shape difference doesn't really matter.

Interesting that you make the Xbox One/Sega Saturn comparison, because honestly, this generation so far has a lot of striking similarities to the 5th generation in general IMO. (The only difference being, unlike the Saturn, the XB1 isn't going to do well in Japan, no ifs and buts about it. Lol.) But yeah, a lot of my suspected concerns were confirmed in the video, I guess that's all I can say about it. Thanks again for the heads up Adam.

Always love your reviews Adam, even if people don't agree with them you can appreciate the honesty without bullshit sugar coating because of being afraid of offending people.

What bothered me was the controler. It runs on double A batteries! It's supposed to be next generation gaming yet microsoft can't put a rechargeable power source in the damn controller like sony did with dual shock 3.

This is just my opinion, but backwards compatibility makes no sense to me. The people who would be interested in using that feature probably already own the console it was made for.

Not sure which I like more. The NSA-Station 4 or NSABoxOne.

Say what you want bout Nintendo's lack of games in the first year, or they're lack of marketing on the new console, but I am so glad I decided to pick up a Wii U first. That console has had no issues, is incredibly user-friendly and doesn't mess around with the fact that I just want to play some goddamn video games! Not to mention the miiverse, the internet browser, the Netflix and KZfaq app, etc. I mean i'm by no means a nintendo fan boy (I didn't even own a wii for very long) but I'm very pleased with that purchase.

Talking about UI, I feel the WIi U gets less praise than it deserves for it's UI, it's simple, it's pretty and it's designed with ease of use in mind, It works well with the Gamepad, the pro controller and the Wii Remote(For the most part) Not at one point did I get lost looking for something. The Xbox One's GUI is based around Windows 8 an already clustered, confusing and damn right ugly UI, why they felt the need to integrate this into a console for use with a controller is beyond me, it's design is counter intuitive, It's designed to be used in a way it never will be used. It's designed for Kinect, where it Should have been designed for the controller, THEN used Kinect as an "optional" navigation system(Like with the 360) Because I guarantee you, 90% of the time, you won't be using Kinect and will have no need for it. It's sad really, the PS4's UI looks nice and simple, the Wii U's UI IS nice and simple and the Xbox One's will no doubt end up an Ad infested mess. UNLESS changes are made. This is just my opinion anyway, I'm still not adopting Next Gen for at least another year or two.

Thanks for taking the first plunge into this next generation for those of us who are sitting back and waiting. I wasn't particularly feeling the need to pick up either console on launch and it seems like that was a good choice so far.

It's not a matter of Sony or Microsoft, it's a question of why we're not all playing the Wii U instead, especially shortly after the rather disappointing launch when Nintendo had the best chance of pulling a few new fans over.

Just got a Series X and looking back at this, glad I initially stayed away from the Xbox One. Glad Microsoft reversed and fixed a lot of these issues. Phil Spencer is smart dude.

Haven't actually watched the video yet, all I can say is the thumbnail is great. Adam with Jazz hands and smiling like a maniac!

The controller argument I feel is kinda null, the little plastic thing you put the batteries into on the 360 controller made it harder to get the batteries out from than the Xbox One controller, at least in my experience. I'm fine with the AA battery support since play and charge kits are available for people that want lithium batteries so there is more choice than the PS3 controller offered and you can use a standard micro USB to play without any batteries (thank goodness we don't have to deal with proprietery charging cables or Mic inputs on new Xbox One controllers). My biggest gripe with the controller is the Xbox logo being moved to the top when it was fine in the middle the way the 360 had it, now it's less ergonomic to push as I have to stretch my thumb a further distance (it doesn't sound like much but it's a step back still) and is there a way to tell which controller number you are with local co-op? They got ri of the quarter circle light of the 360 that was also a good idea but unless the LED changes colour it looks like another step back. Also I want to use 360 controllers or atleast wired ones, I get they want to sell new controllers but come on the controllers are practically the same and you want me to pay £40-£50 Halo 5 lacks couch co-op? Sorry got kinda rant-y there.

I don't have any problems playing NTSC DVD's on my European PS3 and most TV#s here support 60hz as well as 50hz

HDMI IN: problem most cable dvr's enable component only or hdmi only so if you have a component only DVR From your cable company you have a problem worse still even if you have access to DVR with hdmi most DVR's are encrypted so if you think I'm going to record shows you might get a surprise...

i love gloss, i have no problem with it. i just keep my microfiber pad handy to clean off dust. i dont have nay issues with finger prints since the only time i touch the console is when i turn it on

Nice video Adam, but I do disagree with the end of the video. I have 6 games for the PS4 plus all the free games they give you. I definitely feel the games are there and I can strongly recommend the PS4 if you can find one thats not over priced for resale. Sure some of the games are ports but they do look beautiful and play smoothly. I never liked Dead Rising. Zombie games arcade style are just awful imo, and Ryse seems like it gets very repetitive and boring. But thats just from the outside looking in. Once again nice vid :-D

Every issue that you stated I've had neither on mine. "30 minutes to install" Took 5 minutes tops on mine - included the same games that you installed. "Hard to navigate the OS without the Kinect" -- It's rather easy to navigate the OS by simply Pinning the applications to the home screen that you tend to use. Batteries? I use rechargeable batteries that last a good week per charge.

i dont mind the 2X AA batteries idea, i just use rechargeables, i find that any built in rechargables eventually lose there charging power and need to be replaced, and standard rechargables are way more cheaper, thats what i use on my 360 as apposed to the recharge kit.

i think there is usb on the side because thats how you update the controller not just the console you can also update the controller

I just subscribed to you a few hours ago and I can't stop watching. Sorry to hear about your disappointment. I remember how I was a huge Sony fan and bought a ps3 as my first 7th Gen console but converted to the 360 a few years later. After all the negative feedback on the xbox one I'm finding it hard to go back to Sony. So for now I just don't have an 8th Gen console. Is it weird to be so conflicted over a video game console?

Why don't Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo include controllers WITH rechargeable batteries built in, that you could swap out for AA's if you prefer that. ;(

One reason I got a Philips DVD player it plays any DVD in the world no problem. There like $40 at most stores. It's also one that has nearly no issues with DVD-R's to play your own movie files from dvd like home tapes you put on DVD-R's.

Hey Adam what's your thought on the system now? I waited till April to pick mine up and by then I feel the kinect dependence had been eased off. Personally I prefer the xbox simply because online play is much better.

Thanks for your exhaustive and balanced day-one review. What can you say about the huge initial update the console did require to start up? Most people complained annoying blocks of the procedure.

I was a little lost for the first hour now i'm rolling along great with it, i'm even getting along with the kinect. at the end of the day put your disk in and play your games. The rest can be left alone if its a pain.

5. Microsoft has already said they will in fact be supporting external harddrives beginning next year, which is when they expect people's harddrives to fill up w/games.

You can have 1080p 60 FPS games on Xbox One. You just have to sacrifice graphical fidelity including gameplay assets like extra vehicles, larger maps, and additional AI characters.

4. One other thing you forgot to mention about Xbox Live Gold is, if you have Gold membership, every account installed on Xbox One has all the benefits of Gold. It doesn't matter which console you're playing it on, yours, mine or your neighbors', if you're logged into a console & your account has a Gold Membership, those benefits follow you & everyone on your console wherever you go.

the lock is to prevent people from stealing your xbox one you can attach a lock to it.

eSRAM is built into the SOC itself. It's basically an extra bit of L4 Cache that is accessible by the GPU and CPU cores. Because of the data bandwidth, and the limited way it is accessed. The eSRAM basically translates to a "Free" anti-aliasing solution. It basically means that most games get 4x AA without having to use any of the Video RAM. They did this, as you said, to match the PS4s extra VRAM and Shader Power. Good Video! Cheers!

That's a problem with the XB1, they have gone out of their way to market it as a 'Be all end all entertainment machine' rather than a gaming machine, and in that case when you say it "isn't the primary function" of the XB1 to play BluRay, it kinda is now, isn't it?

I agree with all of your points Adam. your report is well thought out. Following researching Microsoft following E3 2015, I have some context on the business decisions that MS made on launch and I'm SOOO glad there's a new guy in charge. XBone was a disappointment on launch. The party stuff was broken and confusing, and it's still not very user friendly. I get there there weren't many games but I loved BF4 (still play it weekly!) and Dead Rising 3 and support support was slow. MS ditching the Kinect last year was a major kick in the balls and I genuinely think that MS need to refund everyone who brought it on launch day, being told Kinect was ESSENTIAL for it be played. Bringing in b360 support from this Fall was welcomed but too late - I've sold all my 360 games I would have liked to continue playing. Saying that, they're cheap enough to buy again so it's not the worst thing. As the console matures, I do actually like it now. I'm invested in Xbox now. I don't like PS. I had a 2 and a 3 and I preferred the XB experience. Screw "technology" - I like what the Xbox does. Period. Following the game announcements at E32015, I feel like the Xbone is finally where I want it. There are finally games I want to buy. I can buy one game and have it available on all XBL accounts - which is stunningly good. I don't mind not being able to sell them on after I'm done if I only have to buy one copy. I hope that MS continue to develop it for the next 10 years. Being late 30s, it may be the last console I have to buy? I don't know whether I'll still be as enthusiastic when I'm 46... we'll see. I am surprised that people are making such a big deal about the fact that some games are not 1080p. The PS2 was quite a bit less powerful than the Gamecube and the Xbox, but it still greatly outsold them. If you want amazing graphics play games on the PC.

I found Ryse to be an over glorified tech demo with the depth of a puddle. Sure it's cool seeing the awesome graphics but the "MOVE FORWARD MOVE FORWARD MOVE FORWARD" bored me.

....there is a power button on the controller, I rarely touch the system for power, just pointing out that rant is silly.

Love the review, lots of things articulated better than I. Only 1 gripe . No AA batteries is what I hate about PS3 and PS4, 1 £7 or $10 4 pack of low self discharge 2000mAH NI-MH rechargeable batteries, pisses all over the internal 600mAH (PS3) or 1000mAH (PS4) internal battery pack for long lasting from a great height. Best part is for the money you might spend on a charge and play kit you have a charger and a spare set of batteries. when the battery runs low just change it, no need to find the crappy cable to plug the controller into the console and charge the controller. no need to open up the controller and buy an over priced replacement if it goes to crap. Thats a nice Plus for the Xbox one and 360 in my opinion. I still prefer the ps4 controller bar the AA battery thing and for me looks like the PS4 will probably be my fav console this gen.

Wouldn't the external power supply render a universal plug useless? Does the power block have a universal plug in it? If so you could just have the power bloc k out and not connected to the wall leaving it open to put a universal plug into it as needed. The only way around the problem would be an internal power supply I think. Haven't played with an Xbox one so I could be horribly wrong.

Since they already have emulation software for the 360 to play original Xbox games then you would think it would be fairly easy for them to put it on the Xbox One and make it better.

Every generation gets closer and closer to being gaming PC rigs.

Xbox One is basically this generation's Sega Saturn. Wii U is this generations Dreamcast. PS4 is this generation's Playstation 2, it's going to dominate.

The only time I ever use the power button on the 360 is when it locks up. Other than that I just use the guide button or use my TV remote. Does the guide button turn on the Xbox One? If so, not having a power button doesn't seem like it would have been much of an issue, even without the Kinect.
