After Simon Viklund left, I thought that the music in Payday 2 would never be as good as it used to be. The new music composer (Gustavo Coutinho) has proven me wrong with all of his recent music. “Deadeye” and “Bonebreaker” are every bit as good as Simon’s tracks in my opinion.
@GameRevo

Completely agree with those picks. One thing I liked about Viklund's later PD2 tracks was when he adopted the musical style of the heist location - something that Coutinho's started to inherit as well!

I've noticed that almost all of my favourite games have a good and memorable sountrack. I think a good track at the right moment can make the experience exponentially better, it can give you so much emotion that it can change how you play completely. Payday is done so well that depending on what music is playing i change my playstile, something like death wish track makes me want to stay back and rambo, something like death row makes me cautious, stuff like evil eye makes me want to style, and then full force forward makes me concentrate to max level...
@GameRevo

For me, Payday's soundtrack kinda reminds me of the Doom, or hell, even the DMC soundtrack. All 3 of those games have such an amazing variety of soundtracks. From "Bury the Light" to "I Will Give You My All" to "Meathook" or "Rust, Dust and Guts". All 3 are basically in all of my playlists. Especially Bury the Light. As someone that puts music over almost everything in games, Payday 2's soundtrack is just incredible, the diferent versions of one same track, sometimes becoming a different track depending on the situatuon, it makes it a incredible experience, sometimes i boot up cook off and let the bots do the work while i enjoy break the rules or any other track, not to mention the complexity of said tracks, giant props to Simon and Gustavo! I'm glad someone talked about how the music works in-depth, I always loved this system and how smooth the changes between phases are despite the music being split into 4 parts thanks to the composers making their music in a specific way with this system in mind. When you've known how it works after a while, it's easy to forget how well thought-out this is, and it's nice to take a step back and appreciate how much effort went into making the music fit with the gameplay. Also it's always been satisfying hearing an alternative version for an assault track. Even years later me and my friend still get surprised and a bit hyped when we get the vocals for "Break the Rules", and I'm very glad they kept using this feature later on, even recently with Deadeye.

I always liked when games go the extra mile with music. The combat layers that play in The Binding of Isaac when 6 enemies are in the same room. Parappa the rapper's music changes if your performance is bad. Ape out has dynamic music created by your own gameplay that gets more intense as you get more aggressive. Patapon has the fever side of the songs.

This is an amazing video, from such a small, underrated creator. Wish I found this sooner. You deserve more recognition this is fantastic content dude Fanboying aside; I've always wondered if the music in payday 2 plays in the Heister's head or if its like in some sort of headphone device thing, like how Bain's communication is probably only heard from the Heisters and not the enemies or civs, since having Bain's assistance be heard by everyone nearby wouldn't be good. Perhaps the music may just be a sign of how immersed or focused the Heisters get when things get loud, or stealthy Funnily enough, the game's soundtrack is what actually got me into the game. I Heard the "No Mercy - Blood Spillage" track on youtube from a video, and thought "isnt there a *second* payday game?" Then I then found Code Silver 2018 of which I, of course, instantly fell in love with, which lead me to watching videos on the actual No Mercy Heist, most notably GeneralMcBadass' video. After countless more listens and videos watched, I played the heist, loved it, and then played it again. ...about 17 times. The soundtrack just doesnt get old, or the close-quarters combat too, the throwing of grenades at shields out of my reach, the accidental slaughters of civs, and the many failed attempts at the beginning stealth part still get me jumping in my chair giddy with excitement. I've heard the second assault in No mercy on several different occasions though. But I really won't forget how the soundtrack and robbing of a Hospital was what got me into a Heisting game, and not a bank or jewelry store of which are the most iconic and popular just shows how unique and diverse Payday 2 is. It's a concept I didn't think twice about trying. Despite its clunky engine, its questionable realism, and other things, I cant believe I just turned a small thought about the music into a whole paragraph about how I got into the game because thats exactly how I found interest for the game in the first place. Thats how you know a game is just *that* good. Thanks for reading (or not reading) my large block of text, hope someone sees this (lol)

Music is such an important part of payday 2, Really hope they can get Simon Viklund back for payday 3 If not, I hope they at least port the payday 2 music, Just like they ported Payday The Heist's tracks. Also me and my friends came to the conclusion that the lyric parts are random, My friend had a manic obsessions with Break The Rules and Ode To Greed when we played, Those were on pretty much every loud heist. Not only do the lyrics come randomly, They don't necessarily trigger to all players at once. We also agreed that Big Bank and Scarface Mansion both had higher chances of triggering the lyrics, But naturally we had no actual hard data for it. Either way good video.

I think that's because you're likely to encounter more assault waves whilst waiting for the elevator, as it's the longest section of the heist, especially if you're good at stealth. So you'll hear the assault portion more times, and therefore will have a higher chance of hearing the alternate version at least once.

Love the video, just wanna throw my two cents in with “bridging”. Sometimes desynch could happen so badly that the assault “never” happens, what I mean by that is that the assault is happening but somehow it skipped over actually starting the assault music, meaning the control version could be playing over it, or worse, the anticipation version and hear and endless 3 second loop.

That's bizarre! Never experienced that myself, but given how jank PD2 can be at times, it doesn't surprise me!

@@GameRevo It’s not common I can safely say that, but it’s an occasional thing depending on how bad the desync is and even then it doesn’t happen most of the time.

My fondest gaming memory was playing Meltdown on a higher difficulty than I or the randos in my lobby were ready for, getting the bare minimum to escape after getting the Longfellow stuck, just about to leave behind the rest of the loot in the warehouse when suddenly, the lyrics to Break the Rules started. We emptied the place of everything

Fun fact: Code Silver 2018 does in fact have an alternate assault track, which feels slower than the main one.

I think I heard something about it being a bit more common on maps that are set in Mexico like San Martín Bank, Buluc's Mansion and (just maybe) border crossing.

It's funny that alternate versions of dead eye, break the rules, code silver 2018 and ode greed can be heard in when selecting the music for the heist And as much as you listen to them it can still happen that when you enter the heist the normal version sounds and not the alternative

They're could also be another factor, or im just incredibly lucky. I think the special assault music will always play or at least have a higher chance of doing so if it's your first time playing a heist. I don't play big bank often infact im pretty sure I've only played it once or twice, and i specifically remember getting the vocal section every time I've played it. I also just played scarface mansion for the first time on pc since i played on console until the steam sale and got the lyrics for break the rules on what felt like every assault wave which is amazing since its my favorite song from payday 2.

The Payday 2 soundtrack lived rent free in my mind since the game's launched even though I heard a few songs. Some time in late 2015 was the first time I saw John Wick and when I got to the Club Scene I thought it sounded like something out of Payday 2. I hadn't played the game at this point nor did I actually know about La Castle Vania or his songs in Payday 2 but, somehow, I just knew this guy was making music for the game. When you can pull this information out of thin air because you heard Razormind before is insanity.

there’s also 2 different assault tracks for many other tracks. example: code silver 2018. it activates after a while at random.

Ive heard somewhere that its not actually random but its a bit more counter intuitive, there has to be lots of cops on the map for it to play the alternate version, i believe this to be true because sometimes the lyrics of ode to greed play in the middle of an assault, and i usually just hide in a corner while kingpin recharges so i dont exactly go on a rampage so theres usually lots of cops on the map, which might be a bit of bias on my part but i always found it to be above 50 cops or so

I remember playing Scarface Mansion for the very first time, I was going through the story mode for fun, never having played before. I just got the vault up and started moving the cash and yayo. I'm throwing bags over the railing while firing my microgun, rushing to the van. Then I hear *"You and I...we've been going the distance..."*

I don’t use professional coding language, I use scratch. But I can explain the basics of what peer to peer is. In most coding languages there are these things called “variables” which just keep track of a certain number/phrase. Some variables can be linked to the internet itself, not a server. If an internet variable is set to a player’s xy and z positions and then sets those variables to their corresponding coordinates, that model’s positio. Is saved to the internet. Detecting certain online rooms to enter those coordinates into.

The watchdogs escape video can actually be killed before he arrives because it’s stationed so close to the map before it arrives. Killing the escape driver was a common tactic for old challenge runs, which in turn has been made more difficult by ovk patching it slightly, so now you need a gl instead of an rl. Killing it early will proc the helicopter to come early, meaning you can escape with 0 bags and softlock yourself out of day 2.
