@@Charlotte226 This has never been a consistent thing since gen 2 onwards where we got the introduction of "twins" trainer type which are clearly like preschoolers. They only ever said that in the anime because of the age most kids would start playing/watching Pokemon would be around 10, it was a marketing thing.

I mean, in the Pokémon universe anything is possible. It still didn’t lessen the shock I had when the game revealed that Poppy is a member of the Elite Four and the key shaped bag was a giveaway that she uses steel type Pokémon.

@@AvaricioDuesI don’t think there’s even a standard in the games, just the anime. 10-11 is just the recommended age to give a child the ok to become a full fledged trainer, but anyone can train Pokémon. Besides, not even Kanto is consistent with that idea, since the youngsters and bug catchers are clearly younger than Red/Leaf/Chase/Elaine.

Misty and brock are older but still clearly children. Busy is a child Roxanne is a child Maylene,candice are children Iris is a child. I think she might be older when she's champion, though. Korena's a child Allister's a child. Lana mallow and kiawe are children I'm not certain if acerola is a child or a legal loli joke. I wouldn't be surprised if she's straight up a 20 year old ghost

Not widely known but on B2W2, when you become champion and get access to the starting towns in BW, you'll find literal toddlers in those routes, with Lv50+ pokémon on them, not necessarily stronger than E4's, but still.

also, I would say the definition of child prodigy actually goes to tristan from sun and moon, apparently he only started training pokemon after meeting the player at route 1 and was already strong enough to beat all 4 of the elite 4 in alola and challenge the player for the title of champion when we just became the champion, making him a near player level prodigy

Fun fact: I’m pretty sure something similar happened in Spanish history. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty one of the queens of Spain was given her role when she was just a child Another thing that I wanna mention is that age does not equal skill as a Pokémon trainer. One of the biggest factors to being a skilled Pokémon trainer is having a close bond with your Pokémon, and considering how she is the only major trainer (to my knowledge at least) to give her Pokémon Nicknames, she’s gotta have a strong bond with them. Plus, she’s not a preschooler, she’s actually nine years old, and remember that every Mainline protagonist is around 10 years old when they become champion. Oh yeah, and if you still think that her age makes it unbelievable for her to be an Elite Four Member, let me remind you that there are Preschoolers with LEVEL 60 Pokémon is B2W2

having a child inherit the title was a common thing back then if the king died befor his heir came of age. but the actual rule fell to a regent (mostly the remaining parent) untill the child became an adult at 15 after which rule was handed over to the new king.

Poppy's age has been revealed in the new DLC. She's... Nine. Nine years old. It seems that her Pokemon are so strong, she's worried people will be afraid of her. So she uses her small stature to dress and talk like a (younger) child in the hopes of it making people less afraid of her. However, she was still afraid to attend school, so Geeta offered her a position as Elite Four instead.

It's a vague assumption, based on the lore of the region. You can't partake in the Trial Challenge until your're 11, so all the Trial Captains have to be to at least 11. And then they have to quite once they are 20. But obviuosly we know she's not older than that, lol

I genuinely don't think Poppy is older than Nemona unless she has cognitive delays, so the alternative is that Poppy never beat the Champion assessment. Perhaps there is an age limit in terms of who is allowed to challenge gyms, so by definition Poppy couldn't pass the interview segment. But maybe Geeta saw her potential, had her battle strong trainers, and when Poppy won or put up a good fight, Geeta "strong armed" her parents into letting poppy be in the elite four, with promises of amazing pay, quality education, insurance, high social and career status guarenteed later in life, a babysitter, etc.

That was my thought exactly. It's like someone gave her a rental team they had - rika most likely - and she told the pokemon to humor her no matter how silly or unwise she was being. She's the rich kid given too much power too young. Now that I think about it, I'd be cool if she and ortega (team star fairy boss) were related. Family troubles on top of the bullying? Being showed up so soundly by the little toddler the parents clearly favored over their firstborn would leave anybody with some issues

The fact that she has two pokemon those are enemies by nature, and one of them also has a thing to hunt and scavenge from steel type pokemon in general is enough to show how good she is as a trainer, imo. Not to mention that if we take her words 'haven't done this for a long time' into real meaning, it means that the previous trainers either ended up losing to Rika or her, and that must be quite an achievement.

I love how even in the wildly low adult age of 11/10 in the Pokemon world, that Poppy is still child labor. God help whoever tries to exploit her when she's this young, because once she realizes that she was, like a lot of child Hollywood stars, musical savants, and KZfaqrs, "'Rajah, smush 'em" is going to be a lot less "friendly competition" and more "deadly comeuppance."

When I discovered Poppy was one of the E4 I immediately assumed she was a ghost trainer who died young and refused to pass on. Only a year after release do I realize that I swept her steel types so fast that I never internalized she was, in fact, a regular child.

When I fought her, I used my Tinkaton against her corviknight, I know it’s not good odds, but considering the Pokédex description, it’s really funny if you ko a corviknight with a Tinkaton.

I was thinking Poppy is connected to the Glitterati. They have the exact same encounter theme. It likely explains how Poppy became an Elite Four member: They bought the spot from Geeta. Poppy's Pokemon were probably bought by the Glitterati & trained by experts for her to use.

I was actually thinking maybe Penny was related to Peony. Penny is named after the Peony flower, comes from Galar, and has a super clingy dad that calls her nicknames. Plus if you want to compare her with Peonia, Peonia has Pikachu earrings while Penny has an Eevee theme, so they'ld be a Pikachu and Eevee duo.

how can a kid be a elite four...i remember in pokemon red and blue our character who is 11 years old and is a became a champ. poppy is 9. its not that crazy. fun fact in gen 2 red is then 13 and the gen 2 protagonist is 11 again who is like a double champ after beating red
