The normal run would "Start" With that save he loaded, but for gdq he started from the beginning hoping for the luck. So technically the run isnt invalidated it actually begins when he loads that save. So no rules broken.

It is Mimic difficulty. You can tell by the fact that his mouth doesn't move.

it is a marathon run. imagine u watch a pokemon speedrun on gdq and the runner has to reset over and over again cause the type of the pokemon isnt good.. same thing with the wrench.

Then he should've improvised, runs with lots of RNG are good when the runners improvise around it. Check out Carcinogen at ADGQ 2018 and RE7(or was that SGDQ 2017?), dude gets thrown the occasional curveball from random events. But he doesn't just pick up a "backup save" for them, he improvises around them, because he's good enough to still make it work.

Honestly, that's up to the runner. A marathon is just a demonstration, and he's demonstrating the currently optimal no-OOB route for the game. If he changes the route to minimize RNG impact, it would give a different idea of what running this game is like. They do point out what the idea behind the back-up save is, and I'd say it's well grounded.

You seem to forget the explanation that at the beginning the run doesnt start until you pick up the wrench technically so people who run this game literally open a save right before picking that wrench up and is guarenteed to have the wrench and THATS when time starts. He just showed the beginning of the game for the marathon. By your definition NO ONE should use a backup save. Just play the game casually. Waste 20 minutes of the marathons time. Set everything so far back that they tell him to pack up and not finish the run in order to stay on time. Just because you say its wrong. EVERYONE, and literally EVERYONE, who speed runs this catagory, as he explained, Starts WITH a save that HAS the wrench. SO you want him to waste everyone's time on a speedrun where he does something different for ALL OF US to enjoy something, because of something that is impossible to happen in an actual speedrun.
