+ItsJustZoey Agreed, they are nice..but get uncomfortable the longer you wear them. The Tiamat 7.1's are pretty nice though. I've had mine for 3-4 years now? Can't remember, but I can wear them for 5-7 hrs straight no problem.
8 жыл бұрын
+ItsJustZoey I use the Steelseries Siberia v2 Frost Blue and they are just awesome. I mean.. ye, the mic is not so great but i have a condenser studio mic so not a big deal. However, I can wear the headset for like 10 hours without taking it off. I love it. I also have the Razer Chimaera but they get reeeeaaallly unconfortable even after half an hour. Ofc they win in convinience cuz they're wireless..

I bought the superlux headphones after I saw your old review on them. They're actually really nice. I have a pretty big head, so simply putting on and taking off headphones puts a lot of wear on their joints. This headset has probably lasted longer than any other i've owned. Usually they snap in half within about 3 months. It's also been the most comfortable headset i've owned, because of how wide the band that goes over your head is.

The Samsung earbuds that are bundled with most Samsung phones are actually pretty nice. Just Amazon "samsung earbuds" and you'll see them (they're the white ones). There are black ones, too (not the ones on the "samsung earbuds" page), and are pretty much identical. To find those, just Amazon "samsung black earbuds oem".

ThreeDaysOfDan You're a little confused, neither bass ruins sound fidelity or treble enhances it. The best sound quality is achieved by a balanced sound spectrum (low, mid, high). If you really want quality audio, not just for games but for music, movies and enterteinment in general go for a pair of studio monitors, seriously is like living a new experience in your life, I'm a professional musician and a music production student and once you listen through a pair of studio monitors you will never go back to standard speakers or surround. Now if you need headphones go for a Monitor headphones from M-Audio or alesis.

A good reason to choose closed headphones over open is if you happen to use a condenser microphone. If you want the best audio out of your awesome sounding condenser mic, you need to get up close to it and you generally don't want sound from your headphones spilling into the mic. You are right to point out you get wider sound staging from open headphones, but closed will still give you good enough impressions of directions sounds are coming from in games to hear that bad guy on the other side of the wall creeping along it to nail him when he peeks.

www.polygon.com/2016/2/28/11129974/xbox-one-controller-apple-earpod-earbud-headphones-buzzing-noise-fix Looks like there's a way to fix that in settings for XBox. If you use PS4 there may be a cable adapter, I can't remember I just know I had to get some sort of $4 adapter cable for my son's PS4 so he could use his headphones. Either way don't give up on your headphones right away, there might be a cheap or free fix out there.

I made my own for PC gaming. you need: 3 or 4 pairs of earbuds or drivers 1 big driver pair Stereo to Mono 3.5mm splitter * situational: *hot glue or mounting method of choice *any over ear headset or ear protection *cushion fluff to absorb sound *3.5mm extenders *drill The earbuds can be placed into the big driver headset if you have a big nice pair or you can get cheap muffs if your pair of big drivers is salvaged (top part busted?). The splitter splits Center and Sub into both ears. The sub channel obviously gets the bigger drivers. Place the buds in the spots that sound good to you, then attach. Its simple, fun and if you do it right you will get lots of use. I used ear protection and drilled a hole for the wires to come out. I recommend routing one side's wires over your head, I regret not doing that and may still do it. You can replace the drivers or upgrade them :) If you want this setup for consoles you would need a hdmi to 7.1 TRS decoder which is like 40-50$. Virtual surround sucks.

I've owned my 668Bs for a couple years now, and they really are the best pair of headphones you can buy for $40. I haven't bought or even tried expensive headphones, but whenever I've tried any other non-audiophile headphones, I'm ALWAYS disappointed. So for $40, its a great baby's-first-pair. The low end definition is where these things really shine. They go so damn low and with no distortion or odd peaks at all. They'll perform really well without an amp on my cellphone too. But holy shit do those weird things at the top hurt your head. If you do get a pair, find a place to leave them on, stretched out because those brick, I mean foam, pads will dig into your head. You won't notice it until you adjust them and then you'll feel the hurt. But totally worth it for the quality.

radiohead4everrrrr Definitely, I love my set. I used to have £120 Sennheisers until they broke. I couldn't afford a new set, so I settled for the HD668B instead, completely satisfied. I found the ear pads awful though, so I replaced them with Hifiman velour pads, improves the comfort and sound tons. About your comfort issue with the head wing things though, I had the same. The side adjustment completely fixed that though, now they press against the sides of my head instead of the top.

I'm an earbud guy, and I exclusively use the "Enhanced Bass Hi-Fi Noise Isolating Earphones" from Monoprice. The price fluctuates anywhere from 5.99 to 12.99 seemingly at random, and sometimes they go on sale for even less. The sound quality of these earbuds are fucking amazing. And they're so cheap I can abuse the hell out of them and just get another pair. If you want them to sound the best, use whichever tips (comes with 3 sizes) can make an actual seal inside your ear. Once they're sealed like that, the quality jumps up several steps. But if you need to hear things around you, you can tilt them slightly to break the seal and they still sound pretty decent. I use these for music, games, movies, everything. When listening to music, I do find that these produce too much signal in the 6K range and turn that slider down slightly in my MP3 player's equalizer. Otherwise, they're basically perfect. I've been using the superlux headphones recommended in this video for around a year now, and they are amazing. They feel just tight enough so that they wont fall off of your head, and the sound quality is amazing. I wouldn't ever expect studio headphones to give me such an edge while in game. I can hear everything in the battle field and where its coming from + how far away it is. Maybe spent 40$ on these things but it definitely is worth it.

I have a question. Are there any headphones (headphones not headset) with 7.1 surround under the price of 55 dollars? EDIT: After I watched the entire video, I heard you say you don't like surround. Well are all these stereo? Why do you not like surround? Or perhaps are they 5.1 and not 7.1? I really need that directional sound and good bass (not those crappy muddy sounding headphones you know) for all the explosions and I also listen to alot of metal and rock so that'd be great. Waiting on a reply! :D

***** Yeah Vaes, guess what a simulation does. Right, it changes volume, frequency, phase on the left and right ear etc. Surround simulations CAN work. The thing is, they are based on standardised datas. Not everyones ear is the same, thats why not every frequency change would be the same for different persons. So for some people sumlations work, for some they doesn't. I prefer stereo too. Hexthrill Superlux HD681b(20€), Superlux HD681 EVo (30€) and Takstar Hi2050 (55€). Choose one.

***** I could swear when I read you comment it was different. Did you edited it some time? Or I was drunk :D Because yeah... of what there stands now, I should have been clearly able to get that you mean real surround. Only read something like this: "It's because anything above stereo simply doesnt work in headsets. The way your body locates sound is by comparing the difference in volume, frequency, and phase of the left and right ear." Sorry for that ^^ Yeah, Tritton and Roccat have 4.2 and 6.0 headsets and I think Razer even has 8.2 or 10.0. Can you imagine that? 10 speakers in a headset, such bullshit...ds
@pigolus
@pigolus 9 жыл бұрын
***** im not entirely sure if your arguement is valid. Yes the way that ears work is if a sound is hear stronger in one ear than the other, your brain recognizes that balance and pinpoints the location. However, that works on a 360* radius in real time. In headsets, the speakers are only to your left and right, which reduces your hearing range to only your left and right, but you can't pinpoint front and back. Let me explain: on a 2D coordinate plane, if the plane would represent the floor space of where your player is, stereo headsets would only utilize the X axis, because they only work left and right. Now, a surround headset, 5.1 or 7.1 would be able to better utilize the Y axis due to the positioning of the speakers in the headset. it's the same mechanics that your brain uses in real time to determine the location of sound, used with small speakers.
@pigolus
@pigolus 9 жыл бұрын
***** I really cant agree here. Software doesnt use any form of delay or anything like that. sound travels so quickly that the idea of a delay is ridiculous. the real reason is sound strength in a particular region. the reason why we can pinpoint sounds in different areas is because our ears are pointing that direction. now, think about it this way: i have a microphone. im going to point it toward a specific sound source. the sound will pick up much better when pointing towards it. now, if the microphone was pointing AWAY from the sound source, it would not be able to pick up as easily. well, the same concept with ears applies. and thats where surround comes in. back to the 3d graph, software uses basic calculations to determine sound strength in a specific place, which then gets output through the speakers. but you may now ask, "yeah, thats great, but how does sound strength determine location on the Y axis?" glad you asked friend. stereo headsets can only output strong or weak sounds on the left and right, which again means only X axis. in a surround headset, the positioning of the speakers is specific, as the sides, front, and back of each ear, so different strengths coming from different sides makes hearing the sounds easier. Now in some arguements one might say "two ears, two speakers, its a perfect match." let me put that arguement to rest. Do this: take your hand and snap in front of your face. It sounds like it came from there doesnt it? now snap to the front left of your face. again, thats where it sounded like, right? now to your left. pretty much snap all around your head. now that weve established that your ears are designed to hear on the 360* radius, do this: snap in your left ear, then your right ear. thats what having stereo headsets feels like. you can hear from the right, left, and center, but you cant hear front and back. so the idea of having multiple speakers in a headset isnt actually crazy at all. by using simple instruction from the software, a headset will output a specific sound strength and a specific speaker, and another sound appropriately placed in the other earcup in a similar manner, but with a different strength.

a cheap micro will do it, like the zalman MCI or something compareable. you can clip these types of mics to the headphone cables or oyur cloths. there are others thean the zalman at almost every price range. there are also some alternatives like the antilon modmic or the one from v-moda. beyerdynamic has also one for their custom one headphones(called "Beyerdynamic Custom Headset Gear"), but they work with any headphone. i would recommend the zalman. below 10 bucks, the other ones are around 50 to 60 but don't sound that much better. for skype and teamspeak the zalman ist absolutely okay! www.amazon.de/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-Mikrofon-mit-Mikro-Clip-schwarz-silber/dp/B00029MTMQ

James Reynolds Plastic parts break, crack or otherwise dont hold up. Speakers are shit from the beginning, and they only get worse. The thin metal band for the head clamping will hyperextend and over time the headphones will begin to "slide off". That said, these are 40$. All of those problems exist on ALL headsets around 40$. At least they have a great warranty from logitech (use it...). Stay away from the 430. Its an overpriced 230 (literally, it sounds exactly the same lol)

Having had sub-par experiences with gaming headphones, and being a musician as well as a technician, I've discovered that Studio-quality headphones that are popular with live DJ's work very well. Musicians in a studio tend to fervently prefer to hear their own instrument acoustically as well as the track playing in the phones. I use a Sony MDR-XD100 and can easily hear someone calling my name from across the house while still enjoying the sound from my machine at great quality at a reasonable volume. This does require that I have a microphone as a separate solution. I have a AGPTek HA0016 condenser mice that needs a +48VDC power supply...

If you haven't used a really really good pair of headphones before, you have no comparison to say is the one's you bought good or bad, and that's the problem, since many of us don't' have any references anywhere. For example, after listening my Genelec 8020 monitors for 10 years, I've gotten accustomed to a high quality sound and I'm constantly irked by what ever crap other people are using in their homes to listen music when I go to visit... I have a high quality reference so I can make a statement based on that. If I didn't have any real references, I couldn't do that. So please people, understand that what audio professionals use is mostly a reference quality, everything else is just consumer crap and you really can't take those as a reference when making judgement on that 100$ thing you've planning to buy. Don't believe marketing hype.

I've used a pair of Sennheiser HD800s, and used to own a pair of HD700s, and damn, you really cannot go back. It's SO easy to tell the difference between good and bad audio. For me it's worth saving up for a little while to get a good pair of headphones, rather than spending 50 bucks and hearing shitty sound for every game I play. I mean, if you play 5 games on your console, 60 bucks a piece, that's 300 dollars. And you're gonna ruin the audio by spending less than 20% of that money on your headphones. Just get a solid pair.

The Superlux is also available branded as Samson S850. That one has a non removable cable. Mine had velour pads but some don't. Also, a couple of years after this video came, Superlux actually started selling them with extra velour pads. Downside (intended as a feature) is they have a weird fixating wire that makes the wire break after a year or so if you move them around a lot. I got mine fixed via shortening the wire and I think they will last a few years now. Brand names with the same drivers also include Presonus and Axelvox and probably more but I am not sure of exact corresponding models.

The headphones also came with velur earpads, jack adapter and a bag ;) I will never come back to headsets now. I also bought Zalman Mic1 at the same time. A decent microphone and probably one of the best price to quality value. Now I'm using a cheap Trust Starzz mic, because I had issues with the mic not picking up sounds well when on cable. Also if you have a mechanical keyboard and don't want your microphone to pick up them click and clacks, push to talk is a thing.

if youre using any headset (gaming headset or otherwise) for gaming that uses a 3.5mm jack, especially a mic/headphone combo jack. its not gonna sound good. it'll work, but it wont sound good. its not really that important to know how pure and crisp your sound is when youre gaming, just as long as you can hear everything comfortably. if a dedicated headset isnt for you though, just pick up the adapter and use the headphones you already have. most come with an in-line mic anyway. the only way to justify buying a dedicated mic is if you have a youtube channel or you livestream a lot. if you are going to get a dedicated headset though, go for one that has a usb instead of a 3.5mm jack. itll sound better for both the mic and the sound itself.

Thus Forgotten I know right? In most games, when you turn on the surround, you head buzz, in some games it's good (worked nicely in Skyrim), and in most games, it buzzes, and you need to switch to non-surround mode, which utilizes the 2 crappy main speakers. I bought these headphones when I first built my PC (along with 2 other logitech peripherals, because I was a fanboy), and now I know to stay away, especially from gaming headsets. The software is clunky too.

Meh, like in the video I would just spend the extra ten bucks and get the 668b. Would have to agree with you tho that the zalman mic is amazing!

in what way is the 668b worth the upgrade?

The HD668b is on sale right now for another 16 hours or so on GearBest. It's about €23 now. If I buy the Zalman mic it will add up to around 32€ I think (- €1 since I subscribed to the newsletter and got €1 in return). Your combination apparently isn't 'the best shit you can get for 38$) ;)

I am probably missing something, so correct me if i'm wrong, but the title suggests that this video would be about actually building your headset from separate parts. (a body, drivers, cables, etc) When I watched the video I found out this would only be about recommendations of headsets that already exist, not how to build your own. Again, if I misunderstood, please reply to this comment.

Do you know that 668bs are size adjustable? Few people know this actually. You must use a little bit of force. You can change their size quite a bit. And for the highs and bass use eq. Now I have fidelios x2 and 668bs don't fall far behind.

the quality of the physical microphone is far less important than the sampling, very dependent on the device that's doing the recording/processing. my TB X1 recorded with audacity sounds totally fine, all it's really missing is a better p-filter

I agree that audio is important because im a selfmade producer. although people looking for good audio quality need to know that there is a tonne of other options than just these, especially $150 or less. does audio matter to you? it should. good job getting others interested in HQ audio Tek Syndicate!

For everyday users, stuff like that doesn't matter. I have Astro A-10s. I play a few hours each day and they work. Sound comes out of it and the mic function works fine.

Great video and I plan on using it in my recommendations when trying to explain how much better open cans are. I use the Sennheiser HD598's personally but recommend the Superlux HD668b's constantly. I would also like to add that the Samson SR850's are practically the same. Only differences are, they are 32ohms instead of 56ohms and have an AKG style headband instead of the Audio Technica style. If you open these up, the magnets even say Superlux on them.

I've stopped using Turtle Beach, ScullCandy and rest of gaming trash long ago. Bought Bose QC15 - lasted me 5 years. Used clip on mic for gaming. Now using QC25 - bought for 450. Best headset I've ever owned. Still using clip on mic.

Sennheiser HD 350 Pro and similar. Great sound despite being closed, comfortable enough to wear for any extended gaming session due to being fully circumaural, but don't get the ones with integated mic. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Best Gaming headset I have ever owned: Philips Fidelio x2 + V-Moda BoomPro Mic Arguably the best sub-$300 headphones(sub $500 headphones for that matter), open for a wider sound stage leading to superior positioning for sound location awareness combined with one of the best boom style lavalier mics money can buy. The only downside is all the people asking you what headset you are wearing because your mic sounds unusually good. Open headsets with the stick on mics typically cause sound bleeding into the mic, and those mics are typically of low quality. The BoomPro has nearly no feedback issues because the sound would naturally be coming in from the back side of the mic, which would cancel it. At extreme volumes, you can pickup sound from the right speaker though. Feedback was an issue i was worried about going in, but turned out to not be an issue at all. The audio quality on the V-Moda BoomPro would be mistaken for a professional lavaliere mic, and no sound engineer would complain about its recordings. I was utterly amazed when i heard it myself, and I probably sound like a commercial like everyone else did when i heard them talk about its quality, but hearing is believing. I recommend it to anyone who has headphones with a standard 3.5mm removable cable. The only complaint is it may hinder really high end headsets, as the cable is quite thin, but anything 150 ohms and lower would work as great as anything.

For earbuds that are clean and have bass drive, I'd definitely recommend Sony MDR-XB50's. They come in red, blue and black and sound amazing. *NOT MONITORING AUDIO*

Well, I just got the Plantronics GameCom 788's. I own Vmoda M100's for general music and work out daily drivers. The Plantronics 788's are very comfy, the mic is pretty damn decent for the price and that it's attached to the headset itself. Not the greatest I've ever owned, but they sound way better than what I've used from Razer and the price isn't bad either. If you're looking for something to wear for gaming and chat use and maybe some low end "Let's Play" or twitch streaming, than these aren't a bad choice for $50. I'd argue they sound better than much more expensive options, but your mileage may vary.

I'm still gaming on my Superlux HD681 headphones + Antlion Modmic in 2024 (purchased ~8 years ago). My only complaint is the elastic headband cords wore out, but my head is so large that this is irrelevant. Even the ear pads are still in like-new condition, in spite of my heavy 5-o'clock shadow rubbing against them all the time. I have since tried the SHP9500 and the HyperX Cloud Alpha, but neither of them compare for me.

After wearing the Superlux HD668B's for a year and a half, there are two indents in my skull where the two "wings" go on my head. If you get them, only wear them for like a year or so.

I don't know if it's been pointed out, but I want to correct you on one thing. No headphones in Sennheisers HD400-series appear to be open back. I might be missing something, but I sure can't find anything. If you want an open pair of Sennheisers it seems that the HD518 is probably your cheapest bet. The HD429 and HD439 look like they are open back, but they are actually not.

I used to own a pair of Gamecom 780s. They have digital 7.1 surround with simulated positional audio that works. Best sounding gaming headset I've even owned including the mic.

Honestly, the best budget IEMs I have used are the KZ ATE HiFi IEMs. They have an inline mic and work with console or PC plus sound too good for something in that price range. Even for something in the $50 range. For $15 you can't go wrong
