Nice work on the shelves! I just recently added several to my game room as well. Glad that you were able to make them fit.

Thanks Paul! This was quite helpful. Planning to re-do our very large kid's play room with Kallax this summer. Will need to repaint the room first. Thankfully we live near an IKEA and I'm so ready to put all of our Legos in bins in the shelves next to the games and also use some shelves to display Funko Pops. But mainly want to get our game collection off the basement floor!

I would remove one vertical side, and mod the shelves together from the other shelf. Basically just screw them together so theres just a center thick piece. Same look as yours but no struts needed where you loose a bit space. Excellent vid mate. :)

i had recently selected the kallax system for my game storage and had no idea it was the go to shelving unit for board gamers. So i was really pleased to see your review and the final result looks great.

Great result in the end as it actually looks better then having 2 thick edges in the middle. Another idea instead of cutting the skirting was to cut the skirting profile out and of each bottom edge of the shelves. This still would have required that the walls are perfectly vertical wall on each side which is typically not always true on gyprock/drywall walls. A tip for anyone else: Be sure to measure on the ground between the skirting and not the walls.

We have a lot of KALLAX. None of them are used for games. My wife use them, but I prefer IVAR for games, so I can adjust the shelf size.

I know, I KNOW! that this is kind of sacrilege to a lot of us but: I've recently tried a solution that's freed me of all my gaming storage woes in one fell swoop. I went through my collection and found all of the games that I'd owned for more than 5 years but never played and ... got rid of them. I finally have room to move around in my apartment now! YAY!

I really really wished Ikea still made the norrebo, it's the best design for board games, much longer slightly deeper and taller shelves, I think it's 15 inches deep and 15 inches tall between shelves. and probably 40 + inches. If you can find them used in your area grab them. I have Kallax system and norrebo and the norrebo is much much more efficient with its space and much more sturdy.

Gaming Rules! The shelves behind Marco in his videos are based on their design
@jwspiker7 жыл бұрын
@marco's review of the newest Colosseum or Sherklock holmes shows the ones he had custom made based upon the norrebo. www.pinterest.com/pin/243264817342080132/ I just wish they still made it, very sturdy, i've found 1 shorter book case on craigslist, still want to find a tall one 6 shelve one to use, or combine the two short ones. These allow better organization with the Kallax you have to basically play a tetris game in small cubes. I've been rather disappointed in the decrease in the # of games i could fit per sq ft compared to the norrebo.

What would you have done if you'd measured correctly? Chosen different shelves or cut down one shelf anyway?
@GamingRulesVideos7 жыл бұрын
If I'd measured correctly, I would have had two 5x5 kallax units next to each other. Would have been no need for any cutting.
@barmybee617 жыл бұрын
I don't understand, Paul. Even if you measured correctly the two 5x5 shelves wouldn't have fit.
@GamingRulesVideos7 жыл бұрын
If I'd measured correctly, two 5x5 shelves would have easily fit, with plenty to spare. I thought I measured 388 cm, and I wrote down 388 cm, whereas the actual measurement was 358cm, so I thought I had would have had 25cm spare space at the side. Instead, I was 5cm short :(
@CoryFleury7 жыл бұрын
Gaming Rules! What I think Duncan means, is if you had gotten the correct measurement of 358cm in the first place.
@GamingRulesVideos7 жыл бұрын
If I had measured it correctly, at 358cm, I would not have bought two 5x5 units as they wouldn't fit. The 5x5 units are 182cm each. That's 364 in total, so yeah, if I had measured it properly and wrote down 358, I wouldnt have bought two 5x5's. I'm glad I did though, as they are in and working ok.

Very nice, but the question to ask is...what happened to all the teddies?!
@GamingRulesVideos7 жыл бұрын
The room used to be the daughters room of the family that used to live here. The teddies were there when we came looking at the house, but when we moved in, they were all gone. I hope. Unless they are buried somewhere in the garden!

Small tip from 2020, don't use the 5x5 shelves, return that one and get the 4x4s instead. You can stack 1x4 and 2x4 on the 4x4. If you get a small space on the sides you can add vertical 1x4 or 2x4 on the sides.

YMMV, but games are best kept behind a closed door. Takes less space and less dusting. Filled shelves like this invite to wildly purchase games to fill the empty squares and what you get in the end is lots of games you never play AND a very busy looking wall.
@GamingRulesVideos7 жыл бұрын
Can keep them locked up. They need to breathe :) My current games collection fill every one of the holes, and I still have some left.
