The Perspective of God’s People For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. They seem to live such painless lives. (Psalm 73:3-4) The psalmist Asaph struggled with the age-old question of why the wicked prosper. In Psalm 73 he wrote, “But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone. For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness” (verses 2-3) We live in a time when people celebrate and flaunt ungodly lifestyles. And like Asaph, we wonder how long they’re going to get away with it. As followers of Christ, we try to live by God’s Word, and people mock us for it. So, we say, “This just isn’t fair. That’s a horrible thing they’re doing. They shouldn’t be able to get away with that.” David, too, reflected on the life of the godly and the ungodly and contrasted them. He looked at the priorities they have. And in Psalm 5 he wrote, “You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe” (verses 6-7) David was saying, “Nonbelievers can do what they want to do and live the way they want to live. But I’m going to go to the house of the Lord.” Asaph arrived at a similar conclusion. He wrote, “Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction” (Psalm 73:17-18) When we gather with God’s people and study God’s Word together, we will see the big picture. We will realize that sin eventually catches up with everyone. And as followers of Jesus Christ, we will know that we’ve made the right choice.

Terranigma is an all time favorite. I love the gameplay and it has some of the saddest moments in gaming(poor mountain goats..). Wild Arms is special for the unique atmosphere that no RPG has had for me like it. The story has some exceptionally dark and chilling moments aswell

I only saw the Terranigma Artwork in the Thumbnail. It is my favourite Game of all time. The Soundtrack is so fucking good, it's so intense and different from track to track i really had the feeling it brought the soundchip to it's limit. Talking bout limits, the Graphics are so pretty and i really felt the devs gave everything they had to make it the best it could be and found smart ways to work around the limitations. It just is something really special every RPG fan should expirience

Remember, in addition to Phantasy Star 4 coming with a manual that explained what all the spells and skills did, it was the 4th game in a series that used that naming convention. Not to mention that Final Fantasy's "Blizzaga" would probably be as nonintuitive to the original Japanese audiences as Persona's "Bufudyne" or Phantasy Star's NaWat."

@RwnEsper
@RwnEsper Жыл бұрын
@@michaelp4122 I have never finished 1, although I am trying to work my way through the Sega Ages release myself. That said, PS1 has a design philosophy that's really different from a lot of other 8 bit RPGs; it reminds me more of something like Ultima or the Saga games than other early JRPGs. All of which is to say, I also find the first game a bit obtuse, although I think it is worth playing. Like I said before these early RPGs tended to have a lot of info in the game manual, either with hints, partial walkthroughs, or both, so you might look into finding a scan of the manual if you want the best experience. PS2 has some of the most interesting themes and overall plot of the series, but it is HARD and the dungeons lean towards the hair-pulling level of mazey-ness. The characters I think were better in PS1. I personally wouldn't start with PS2, although plenty of people have. I just do not think the core systems have aged very gracefully, despite how interesting it must have been playing it when it was brand new. Phantasy Star 3 was my first game in the series, and although I know now that it is considered the black sheep of the first four games I really liked most of it. The combat system is surprisingly fast and flexible once you wrap your head around its peculiarities, and the generation mechanic was something I had never seen before (more common now, but most prevalent in Visual Novels rather than full on RPGs). Honestly, if you want to check out the series, I would suggest trying 4 first unless you already have at least some tolerance for old-school jank. The characters and storytelling of the game are peak 16-bit, rivaling games like FF6 in quality (mechanically, FF6 or even 5 have more depth, but PS4 is incredibly new player friendly in my experience, and the presentation is phenomenal).
@michaelp4122
@michaelp4122 Жыл бұрын
@@RwnEsper I'll try PS4 first then, I can play it on the switch online with rewind (which is cheap, but....I like it). Playing Shining Force 2 now on switch. 8/16 bit JRPGs are a lot more tolerable when played on a system with a home/sleep button. Not going to lie, it probably won't be until 2024 before I try this, but you're not the first to tell me that PS4 is on the same level as FFVI, Chrono Trigger, or Terranigma. Thanks for the info for all 4 games, one day, I'll get to them all.

So many of these older jrpgs would do well with a remastered port. Personally, Phantasy Star IV would probably make an excellent candidate for a full conversion to 3d with voice acting, though they should have an option to retain the comic panels or have cut scenes. Also, the spells definitely need a naming update... my first time playing was a bit annoying figuring out what spells did what lol

Whoa! Cool intro. Is this the first video with the new introduction? The music sounds like a 1990s hip hop beat complete with instrumental samples laid over a drum break. The clips of JRPG cutscenes, and real life Japan played along with the music is dope.

Thanks dude! Appreciate the kind words. Man it’s hard to give an exact number but I would say well over a hundred for sure, though a good amount of those I’ve never actually completed. The JRPG that aged well to me is *Front Mission 3* for PS1. Why so? To this day I still haven't finished the game because most of the time I spend, like 80%, are mostly on its fictional internet browser LOL 😂😂😂. Very little I spend on grinding for characters. Seriously, I just browse sites, reading some fictional articles about military vehicles, vote for my sister in college beauty contest. I just can't stand it when there's encrypted website, I NEED TO KNOW THE PASSWORD.

Speaking of old RPGs I would love to see a video covering the Famicom JRPGs because those are so underrepresented, and at the time they were so big in Japan. People talk about Super Famicom RPGs but not on the original 8 bit console. All people mention is Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy when there’s stuff like Sweet Home, Glory of Heracles II, and Lagrange Point.
