This is a quick Gamma OS 1.5.1 install guide for the Anbernic RG405m RG405v RG505.
Please backup any Roms or save data that might be on the internal storage of the device and remove any SD cards.
This is an updated version of the Gamma OS install video I did for version 1.3.3. Few things have changed with the install process. However, I wanted to take this chance to make it more compatible with the RG405v and RG505.

If you have issues with WIFI after installing on a newer device: A workaround has been found. You need to use the unbricker tool (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrF7rbaZsJ2ucY0.html) to revert back to Stock, then reinstall Gamma OS. If you are curious about why and how this works, you can read more about it here. For Mac users: ADB Fastboot For Mac: I could not add this to the video as I don't own a Mac. teamandroid.com/how-to-install-adb-fastboot-mac-osx/ Or via homebrew on MacOS: Run the commands: "brew update" "brew install android-platform-tools" When you get to the part to run the FlashPartitions.bat file on Mac you will use the .sh file instead.

I have a question, I recently ordered a RG405M -- do you recommend installing the Gamma OS on the internal memory, or on it's own dedicated SD card? I am planning on using an additional SD card for ROMS, but I can't find good information what's best for the OS system itself. Thank you so much! :)

Not sure if it will change in the future but as of right now you have to install Gamma OS on the internal memory. And for the ROMs you can use either the internal or an SD card. Thanks for the kind words!

Open a command prompt ( Windowskey + R > type cmd > hit enter) then type in the following command: where.exe fastboot.exe If you get back anything other than "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADB and Fastboot++\fastboot.exe" You will either need to remove/Uninstall those or rename the .exes to something else. Other things to try are to reinstall ADB fast boot making sure to have the ADB Universal driver box checked and then reinstall the Unisoc drivers and restart the computer.

Great work man, thanks so much! Your Daijisho user guide video was also great, and I've just subscribed. I'm just wondering, is it possible to input ROMs to the RG405V's internal memory straight from a PC via USB-C, or do we have to use a micro SD card to transport the ROMs?

Thanks! I was able to add roms to the internal memory of the 405v just by using USB-C. So that should work let me know if you run into any issues with it.

@@PhyrexTechs Hey Henry, I got my RG405V and set it up with Gamma OS thanks to your video. But when I connected it to my laptop, nothing really pops up for me to transfer ROMs straight to the internal memory. How were you able to do that? I didn't realize beforehand that the cord is USB-C to the RG405V and USB-B to the laptop.

@@zanfear Awesome! Glad you got it and were able to get Gamma OS setup. When you connect it to your computer you should get a notification on the device that says "Charging this device via USB" you may have to swipe down from the top to see it. You should then be able to tap on that twice and then choose file transfer. After that, it should show up on your computer as a connected device to transfer files to.

Just got my rg405m and im stoked to get gamma running on it. I am however a Mac user. I saw your not in the comments about the Mac specific ADB fast boot. But what about the step where you unzip GammaOS file and select the Unisoc Drivers and there are only windows folders, is there another folder for MacOS or will some other step be needed?

From my understanding you should not have to run the Unisoc Drivers for Mac.

i followed your instruction and was able to install gamma os. some games like my PSP & PS2 are not running. did i do something wrong?

What is it doing when you try to launch them? For those systems I would recommend getting the stand alone emulators Aethersx2 for PS2 and PPSSPP for PSP. As they will run better than the Retroarch cores. You can still use Daijisho to launch games by setting the Default player for that system to the Standalone app.

@ Phyrex Techs at the unisoc bootloader unlock tool step. I pressed the volume down button and said info: user cancelled ! and stuck in there. I am using a RG 505. I don't know which button is the home button you pressed in the video. What should I do?

The home button for you should be on the right side of the device.

hello easy steps to follow but one hicup im having is that, im downloading the gamma os folder and unzipping the folder but im missing the rg405m flashpartitions file in the folder. what do i do?

They updated Gamma OS and split the download into separate downloads for each system. So now if you download the 405m version it will just be called FlashPartitions.bat

Hey! I've got a question. Does garlicos allow button mapping? I mean exactly the left analogue. Unfortunately I received an RG505 with inverted directions. Up is down and right is left. I'm looking for a solution. Regards

The popup that should appear on the console screen, which appears in the video at 2:51, does not appear at all on my RG505. I already removed and connected the USB cable and nothing happened. Do you know of a way to fix this?

@@alffolkestad5239 I think I solved it by typing adb devices in the control terminal as administrator. the terminal returned that my RG 505 was unauthorized. Then, frustrated, I turned on the console screen that was already connected to the PC and the pop-up was there. It may be that the adb devices command with the console already connected and with USB debugging enabled can release the pop-up in some way, as happened to me

unisoc says no compatible devices found. using chrome and original usB cable that came with my rg405v. and now i cant get out of fastboot mode.

May have to try another USB cable if you have one. You should be able to get out of fastboot by using the volume keys to navigate. If it looks frozen that may be the issue and you will have to hard shutdown by holding the power button, let the battery run out, or unplug the battery.

Before I install gammaOS on my RG405M, do you think Onimusha 3 demon's siege are working when it's done?

I just tested Onimusha 3 on GammaOS using NetherSX2. Was getting around 45-55 fps. So you may want to run the PAL version of the game as it will be easier to run stable.

Not sure on the specific mali drivers. All I know is that the mali and libgles drivers were pulled from the RP3+

Im confused i got my system a few months ago on Temu sale and its still stock but everyone says, fan speed and other options.....mine already has this? If i got mine last summer could it already have gammeos?

The fan speed and other options I think always worked on Stock. It was that older version of Gamma OS did not work with the fan settings. You can check if you are running a version of gamma os in the Settings > about device. One of the line will say something about gamma OS.

The guide is perfect thank you so much! But I don't understand, I don't have access to ps2 or Gamecube games like if I don't have the bios, I can't use standalone too since the preconfiguration of Daijisho from Gamma OS. What do I have to do ?

Troubleshooting: when I go to put the adb reboot command into the prompt, it says error more than one device/emulator. Why is this happening, what can I do continue? Thx. (the rg405v is the only usb device connected to the computer)

It sounds like it is picking up 2 devices. In that same console type "adb devices" It should respond with something like this. List of devices attached 0123456789ABCDEF device 0123456789ABCDEF device Then you can run this command below replacing what's in quotes with the ID it gives you for your 405v adb -s "0123456789ABCDEF" reboot

I solved the issue actually, there was a process in the task manager running in the background called "adb 32 bit" , I ended that task, and retried the commands, and the fastboot has appeared on my device! Thx for the quick reply :) @@PhyrexTechs

If you already have it unlocked and it shows the unlock flag when you boot up. You should be able to just start here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p86RocZ_lamwdqs.html With the "fastboot reboot fastboot" command. You should be able to do this with the device plugged in and powered on.

Just received my RG405V and installed GammaOS however, my battery has been stuck on the same percentage for over an hour. What is the fix for this?

So it will take some time for the battery level reader to "relearn" the levels. The best way to fix this is to charge it fully then let it fully drain until it powers off(either playing it or just letting it sit). After doing this 1 or 2 times it should be synced up.

Hello! After doing the first fastboot section my device shows "fastboot mode" and below it, it shows " INFO: LOCK FLAG IS : UNLOCK!!!" It wont allow me to continue from there or do any other steps. Anything you can think of to solve this? Thank you for the video

Ok so the fastboot mode Info unlock message means you have unlocked the bootloader properly. Normally it should not sit on that screen. You might want to try to start here at 3:50 with the "fastboot reboot fastboot" command with you device on and connected to the computer

i am very late to say this i know but for whatever reason, the allow option did not show up when i plugged the rg405m, is it ok to proceed as normal? (it does state "usb debugging connected" in the notifications however, i am just wanting to know if i should proceed as any step i take that isnt 1 to 1 often results in less than favorable outcomes for me)

I ran into this too, my device was set to charge only on the usb. Changing that to file transfer brought up that dialog box and it ran smooth from there. Just in case anyone else runs into that.

I am so stuck. I have downloaded everything but when I plug in my 405 into the computer it only charges the 405. I haven't found a setting to change this and I have tried changing usb ports, and cords. What am I missing!?

I have not seen this issue. You may want to just copy all the data off the SD card and try formatting it.

When moving to Gamma OS it will only come with RetroArch cores. So most older systems you wont have to install anything. But for standalone apps for newer systems like Citra and Dolphin you will have to download separately from the play store.

You may need to close it out and try to run it again. If you run into the same issue, you might want to try a different USB cable or a different computer if possible.

So weird thing just happened to the 405m was playing paper Mario and all of a sudden it freezes and shuts off so I try to turn it. Back on and it keeps shutting down I charge it and it’s at 0% when it was about 65 percent i tried this 2-3 more times charging it up and the same thing happens is this a battery issue simple fix or should I return it

I know these devices are known to have some issues with detecting the battery capacity that can be fixed by fully discharging and then fully charging. Your problem seems like more than that issue though. The only thing I can think of to try is use a different cord or charger and give it 30 min to charge and try it again. If you still can't get it on and you have the ability to get it replaced I would.

@@PhyrexTechs I am doing the recharging cycle that I keep saying online it turns on but dies very fast example it was at 60% was playing sonic adventure, DX then it turned off I have it connected to my computer charging cable is the one that came with the device

The one that came with the device is kind of cheap. So you may want to try another one or it could be an issue with the battrey.

Hello, thank you for the great guide. I habe a small problem, after trying to connect to the bootloader via the webpage i got a massage on my RG505 saying "INFO: LOCK FLAG IS : UNLOCK!!!". From then on the device frose on the Anbernic boot logo and nothing happend. Do you have any idea? Thank you!

The Info flag message is something that will always show. But freezing on the Anbernic logo means you may need to take it back to stock and try again. I have another video showing how to flash it back to stock.

@@TheHunterDemon Are you getting the message "info lock flag is unlock" when booting? if so then it is already unlocked and you can start from the part where you type in "fastboot reboot fastboot" into the ADB console with the device on.

I followed along and it wound up just setting up anbernic os again. Should I try repeating the process or uninstall and reinstall everything from my pc and then try again?

You may want to use a different USB cable and just try again.

It seems the device is unlocked and getting into fastbootd no problem. The flash partitions completed in seconds. When I launched eraseUserData it said 'fastboot' is not recognized as internal or external command operable program or batch file. Said that several times and then finished. On device restart it says info: lock flag is unlock!!! Warning lock flag is unlock, skip verify!!! and then it went into the anbernic os

I started from scratch and it worked. I think it was something wrong with ADB & fastboot. I didn't make the shortcut and was just launching from the folder before but I did it with shortcut this time and it worked

Hi, I followed the steps, but when the Gamma OS logo disappears and the configuration menu appears in the first step, to configure WiFi, the list of available WiFi networks is empty. How can I fix this error?

This seems to be related to maybe a newer firmware that was released after Gamma OS was released. The fix for it looks to be to use the unbricker tool to revert back to Stock then reflash it back to Gamma OS and that should fix the issue as stated here : github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOS/issues/155#issuecomment-2037814832

@@PhyrexTechs Hello! I did the proccess and it did not work. Just installed, had the WiFi issue, reverted back to stock and reflash Gamma again - and it did not work. Any suggestions?

Hi my device works grate but then it reboots and is now stuck on the gamma os Boot Logo i try to revert with unbricker but the Programm just close it self and nothing happens and i'm still on bootlogo any ideas wat i can try? The device is only a weak old. Sorry for my bad english

So i got my System Rg405V Back running Stock os but it was not so easy i Had to remove the battery one time, then i neded to run unbrikker ones to get a black Screen on my device and to Crash the unbikker, now Start unbrikker again still with device konectet , now unbrikker give me an Error (Just ignore) now on my device in this Order: Hold Back Buttom - Power - Volume down (any different Order will Not Work) and finally it works!🎉 Im so Happy.🎉 I will wait for now until it is save to use!

I can't connect to the wi-fi once Gamma is instaled, is there any solving for this by now? I have alredy tried removing the command "fastboot flash vendor flash/vendor_custom.img >>log.txt 2>&1" , from the Flash Partition, but still no success. I'm using a RG405V, bought recently.

The "fastboot flash vendor..." command is the only thing I have seen to be able to fix the wifi issue with the newer 405v's. I have been keeping an eye out for other fixes but have not really seen anything else yet.

It looks like the fix for this now is to use the unbricker then re flashing Gamma OS. As you can see here it has worked for many people. github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOS/issues/155#issuecomment-2037814832

@@PhyrexTechs I've tried again deleting the "fastboot flash vendor flash/vendor_custom.img >>log.txt 2>&1" from both the .bat flie and the .sh file, and it worked, I can know concect to the wi-fi using Gamma OS, the problem before is that I was only deleting the command from the .sh file, thanks for the help.

While doing adb reboot bootloader step, it says device unauthorised error in adb bootloader step so what should i do can someone please help

A few things you can try. On your device go back into the "Developer options" disable "USB debugging" then right below that select " Revoke USB debugging authorizations" Then re-enable USB debugging and plug it back into the computer and agree if you get another prompt. Then try again. You can also check to see if maybe your system is picking up another device instead of your handheld. In the ADB console type "adb devices" and it should give you a list. If you see a lot of stuff you might want to try disconnect any other device you have plugged in and restart.

You do lose the current android install on the device. It is replaced by the gamma os android install so if you pick the full version you will still have access to the play store and other android features still.

Replacing the AetherSX2 app with NetherSX2 would help with performance more but Gamma OS can help performance a little more but mostly it would fix other issues like the over sharpening of the screen and better control detection for android games. This can be done on Mac however I do not know of a way to get back to stock on MAC yet. So if you are just trying to improve PS2 performance you may want to try NetherSX2 first.

followed it exactly, Gamma os all loaded and setup my 405M all fine. Left handheld went back after 10 minutes and totally bricked. Wont reboot, wont start, screen shows nothing. Oops 200 quid gone.

*ADB Fastboot For Mac:* If you are needing ADB on your Mac the link below is a written walk-through. I could not add this to the video as I don't own a Mac. teamandroid.com/how-to-install-adb-fastboot-mac-osx/ or via homebrew on MacOS: "brew update" "brew install android-platform-tools" When you get to the part to run the FlashPartitions.bat file on Mac you will use the .sh file instead.

Hmm, was this the part to unlock the bootloader? If so you may need to start that section over and make sure to press the home/back button to confirm.

Hello! I was having the same problem. I don't know if this was exactly what would solve it, but what I did was the following: I opened the PC terminal and typed adb devices. The terminal returned my RG505 as unauthorized. I was already pissed off, I turned on the console screen that was already connected to the USB and the pop up was there :| I still don't know if that's what solved it here, but you can try ;)

Go to settings > System Settings > About device Look for Lineage OS version or build number and it should tell you if you are on Gamma OS and what version.

When you run the flash partitions.bat file is it giving any error messages or is it finished very quickly? It should be taking 5 to 10 minutes.

That lock flag unlock message means your bootloader is already unlocked. Are you able to do the next step typing in "fastboot reboot fastboot" and get to the fastboot d screen?

Hi! Thanks for this tutorial!I’m a noob and I’m installing gamma os on my rg505 and I’m only at the step where it wants me to install the unisoc driver for windows ten dpinst.64. My problem is that I’ve extracted it and it tries to load it and then says it won’t do it cause it doesn’t work for my computer. Anyone have any issues installing this driver and if so, what was your fix. I know it’s me doing something wrong cause I’ve tried loading it now in two different laptops and get the same error each time. Thanks for your help. ~T

@@PhyrexTechs yeah I get the same error. Maybe my extraction unzip software isn’t extracting it properly? Here is what the error says, “Cannot Complete the Device Driver Installation Wizard The device driver installation wizard was unable to find any drivers designed for your machine. Check with the vendor or your site administrator to ensure you have the correct program.”

@@PhyrexTechs soooo, out of desperation, I clicked the uninstall driver 64. Then I tried to install the dpinst64 and to my shock, this time it said it loaded correctly! So I guess it worked. @@PhyrexTechs it all loaded smoothly, but now my wifi won’t work. I read on a forum that others are having an issue with gamma os not finding wifi. One guy flashed back to the original os and back to gamma os and it fixed theirs. Others say they are waiting for a fix. I’m gonna try and flash back to the original and start the process over and hopefully this time it will have wifi. Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

@@apollogrind1617 For everything that is running in Retroarch you will need to use retroarch to remap controls. Run the game you want to change > Open Retroarch Menu > Controls > Port 1 controls > make the changes you want > back out one step and select Manage Remap Files > Choose if you want the changes to only affect that game (save game remap file) or every game on that core/console (save core remap file) For stand-alone emulators like aethersx2, you will need to go into emulator settings and go to controller settings. aethersx2 as an example would be Controller settings > Controller Port 1 > Controller Type: DualShock 2 > then tap Automatic Mapping. Let me know if there is a specific emulator you are having issues with.

If you are talking about where I hit the home/back button to accept the bootloader. You will have to do the same with the RG505. The home/back button for you is on the right side of the RG505

Yeah I tried to make it somewhat fast to save people time. You can slow the video down, follow the step by step guide on the git hub, or try one of the other guides which may be better paced for you.

If you are still stuck you may need to close out the console and try again. If you get stuck again try a different USB cord.
