The gang problem in NM is increasing due to the growing numbers of gang members that move to the state from other states like California,Arizona,Texas and other states that have the death penalty and that also follow the 3 strike law which gives any body life in prison if convicted of 3 major crimes in the state.How to keep kids out of the gang life style in NM for one their is nothing for the youth in NM to do when they are not in school as far as amusement parks,roller rings to keep them out of the streets.Also 90% of families in NM are single parent families or divorced parents that are lacking a strong male role model in the house hold to install good family values in today s NM youth to prevent them from becoming gang members.The other 10% of NM families work two jobs to support the family which leaves vary little time to spend with their children to install strong family values and personnel time with their youth.

I live and grew up near Espanola in Rio Arriba county and that shit is fucked up, if you think you know what the limits of poverty in America are think again. The rest of NM hasn't seemed so bad but Espanola to Taos is a post apocalyptic wasteland full of AIDS, HEP-C, rare cancers, and various other forms of death. Not to mention the pollution from Los Alamos! It's not just the gangs, it's all the people who are complicit, it's nepotism It's an ancient cultural phenomenon in NM that wont be going away any time soon. I hope to get out of here before I get murdered by it and I'm not the only one.. Typing this comment during food poisoning and having recently been massively scammed, both everyday things here. Seriously, none of the normal rules apply here. You'll wish you lived under a fascist dictatorship just for some peace and sanity. I really want all of this to be an exaggeration but it isn't. I want to believe, but New Mexico has genuinely failed, It's hard to look at every day driving to work. Can't ignore reality forever. Peace, and may all the good people make it up outta the ghetto.

Man I could sense it the first day I arrived the next day I left .. my heart or my sixth sense whatever weren't calm till I made it outside.. Albuquerque is nice has its issues as any other city but has some good vibe and positive energy I didn't stay long I left directly .. I don't regret I came I would regret if I stayed

I agree, but if you have an overdose or get injured with drugs in your system unless you pay for private health insurance, you're not treated.... do what you want with your body, but tax payers shouldn't have to pay for it.....if all you have is Medicaid ( tax payers money) you're not treated, and that's fair.

@@R-BURQUENO that's exactly what those types of people are calling for. They want to decriminalize meth, heroine, crack, and fent. All that's gunna do is make the city and state more of a shithole. Most addicts steal and rob to feed their habits. All hard drugs need to be criminalized, the government needs to put money into rehab facilities instead of locking addicts up. As far as jail goes, throw the dealers and kingpins in jail. But that's a pipe dream, these clown politicians won't do anything.

When I was their a few weeks ago , I was warned to stay away from the south Valley and the area of Gibson north to Central. I saw one gang member pull into Bobs Burgers on Eubank , his Truck did not have a LP on it and he parked in a handicap spot, and was eying me when I was in their eating looking at me and non verbally daring me to say something to him. abot being parked in a disabled person spot.Lax laws nails it on the head shame on you NM Legislature and Governor . I had a simmular situation like the one I described above in New Orleans LA a few years ago.

Lived in both LA (Frogtown) and Burque. Pretty much the same. LA alot bigger with alot more blacks. LA had around 300 homicides, Albuquerque had 119. LA has 12 million in metro and Albuquerque has Maybe a million in the metro with a 3rd of the violence. Both are fk'd up. Nothing to brag about, especially when trying to raise kids.
