Gooseworx did say that it's harder to break her tragedy cuz that's who she really is. So I wouldn't be surprised is the comedy mask only hides her true emotions, despite feeling them still.

2:01 Actually, when my grandfather had Alzheimer’s, it was just like this. All the old stuff was clear in his head, and he could still recognize the older family members. It was short term stuff that he struggled with. So, it’s actually not that far fetched.

I agree it’s definitely not far-fetched. I think in this case it is probably anterograde dissociative amnesia (as in, Kinger has trouble remembering recent information, but the memories from his past are still there). Anterograde dissociative amnesia usually results from complex trauma, which would be pretty easy to obtain from spending years in the circus and watching your friends (and possibly lover) abstract. 😅 I’m a psychology major so I like looking at it through that kind of lens haha. On another note, I’m sorry that your grandfather had to deal with Alzheimer’s… it is truly a challenging condition to have.

I also believe Jax's behaviour is to give himself and by extension the others stimulus to keep their minds off of their current situation and thus prevent them succumbing to abstraction. The fact that Jax has keys to everyone's rooms means he can also check in on anyone at any time.

Actually i do believe the mask is an allegory on being faking neong happy. Although i don't think it was something she came with. I think i heard from somewhere that she is am Internet person, watches anime is lonely and haves a body pillow. The happy mask could be a representation of that online persona, someone who is actually really sociable, positive and confident, but outside of the internet she is shy and timid and lonely, that being the sad mask. The creator also said that her happy mask is easily broken while the sad mask is unbreakable, that also symbolisce how easy is to break a good mood and how hard is to repair it

Tbh this is a very valid theory cause Jax doesnt want Gangle lying to herself. Its kind of like he's trying to be the peacemaker rather than a trouble maker cause when Pomni first arrived even though he was being "annoying" he was absorbing everyones and or saddness so it wouldnt rub of on Pomni so she wouldn't abstract. There are also many hidden moments where Jax does this in the pilot episode

This is actually a very interesting idea. I thought the comedy and tragedy masks were to represent something like bipolar disorder, but literal “masking” makes Way more sense.

I can only say that I loved this, I I can only say that I loved this, it's wonderful, An amazing job without a doubt! I loved the idea of how Gangle could be a hypocrite and be lying to himself, that the mask even though it makes him seem more optimistic and energetic is not his true self... And maybe that's why Jax breaks it all the time, I didn't think it was an amazing idea and well executed and the vocals are great 10/10🎉

Personally I like the theory gangle suffers from bipolar disorders as her character fits the description and goes well with most of the whole cast having some form of mental issues being exaggerated to a worst state due to them being stuck in the circus.

I'm pretty sure Gangle's happy mask is just like they way she wants to act and she actually feels happy about it, but in the end like many people, it's just superficial stuff and the Sadness mask are like her insecurities and depression hidden to anyone else until she's forced to release them. and just like Goose said, the Happy mask is easy to break while the Sad one is much harder to break.

All comics and such where Jax has a shred of niceness are purely fanon in my eyes. Not that seeing Jax have a good side is wrong or unpreferable, simply that he's proven (as of episode 2, but it was pretty obvious from episode 1) that he's got no nice pixel in his entire being.
