Totally agree with everybody here that your videos are making Histology lot more fun that what I already think about it. Histology is beautiful and you make it lot more fun. I had the same impression about Gout Crystals getting dissolved in formalin and I never took a chance. Thanks a lot for your wonderful videos!!

Great class about ganglion cyst, and what a nice bonus! If the dissolution of the crystals is due to H&E, if another stain were performed, like I don't know, Masson trichrome, would the crystals remain? Legit question

what does being polarizable mean? I also wonder if observing the crystals on H&E slides is a routine practice in gout.

It means the crystals glow/shine under examination with polarized light. I use it as essentially equivalent to the term "birefringent". gout can usually be diagnosed on H&E based on the microscopic pattern even without polarizable crystals. I'll try to do a video about this soon.
