Well actually this is the real reason why the world goes round, Since gravity pulls inward from all directions equally, the amorphous clump, if massive enough, will eventually become a round planet. Inertia then keeps that planet spinning on its axis unless something occurs to disturb it. "The Earth keeps spinning because it was born spinning,"

I moved here from Charles short intro to GarageBand, which I found too fast for a true newbe, and find this extended version to be clearer and very helpful. If music production doesn’t work for you Charles, you should teach meditation. You have a very soothing, calm voice and manner. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.

I just wanted to reach out on this video and publicly praise you for this piece. Already have you subscribed. Around 3-4 months ago I discovered I could make music on my phone and computer. But I was confused on many of the features of this free program on Mac/IOS, GarageBand. As of last week, I have now produced, monetized, and released 2 House Music songs. Continuing to "work" on new stuff everyday. I'm not expecting anything and just seeing how this goes. But I don't believe I have ever been happier. Your video came across my feed again. I just wanted to say that it was a part of that jumping off point. You did some real good here for others I'm sure as well. Now getting back to "work." lol. Again, thank you.

I'm LITERALLY new to this and have everything I need to start recording. I'm confused first off, LOL! My first question is, once you start a new project (for the very first time), how do you upload beats to garage band so you can sing to that beat? I need step by step for that, so I can get started.
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@danielleburks4436 Hey Danielle, sure thing, no problem. Are your beats in audio files? You can drag them into your GB session and it will automatically add the tracks for you. Are you also using logic or just GB? This video could be interesting for you, it's in logic but a lot of the stuff is transferable to GB: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l7yPm7CBvKurYqc.html

Thanks for this tutorial. I'm learning how to play the piano and was struggling with counting 8th notes while playing with the metronome on. Then youtube suggested this video and I realized I still had a 6 year old MacBook Pro that was mostly collecting dust. Hooked it up to my digital piano, re-installed GarageBand, added a drummer backing track and now I can even play those pesky 8th notes without getting off beat. And scale practices no longer sound boring either. So thank you so much for this video!

Thank you sooooo much Charles, you are a natural teacher and phenomenal presenter...This layout is organized so well that a complete novice (referring to myself), doesn't feel nearly as intimidated as one might without your help, thank you VERY much! Interestingly enough, my daughter and her partner helped my wife and I to record on their computer (in GarageBand), a song for part of our family living abroad. My wife and I sing, with accompaniment on an acoustic guitar as well, thats it presently. Sooo, instead of starting with a blank slate, so to speak, we now have this very simple song (uploaded and on my computer), with hopes of completing it in time for Christmas. Would you have any comment to make for someone like ourselves, who is starting out with this much as a foundation to build around? Thank you for considering our situation. -Peter Pelchen, Kalispell ,Montana

Hi Peter, thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate that.I's recommend looking into the Garageband Drummer tracks if you're looking to have some accompaniment on the drums or if not you could look at adding a Garageband bass track or some strings to help fill out your sound. I do have another video coming next week on Garageband but I'm not sure if it will be ready in time for you before Christmas.

I soooo appreciate this! I'm mimicking what you've done, changing sounds a bit, learning lots. Question - with using the argeggiator feature - can I use it for part of the song, stop it, then bring it back in? Or does it need to be an all or nothing kind of thing?
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Marlene, you can definitely stop it in one part of the song and then bring it back in, that's no problem at all. I think it's more of a stylistic thing to what type of mood you're trying to build with your song.

Hi, Great tutorials. I have to select 1/4 time in the quantiser (I'm in 4/4) or the last four beats I enter get mistimed. Hi Charles, I tried changing a software instrument, but still no sound being transferred from my keyboard, ( Yamaha YPG235) to my desktop Apple iMac. The computer reads O when I read the audio/midi window. Don’t know if the keyboard is not set up to send midi via usb. I had zero problems when using the same keyboard with an audio interface into GB ios. Very frustrating!

Hi Dennis, still having trouble with this? You could try to reset the midi drivers under the audio settings.

I'm trying to copy the automation you did to the lead synth but I just can't get it to work. I have a similar melody, arpeggiated it the same way and followed every single step you took to add the High Cut Frequency Automation. But somehow it doesn't activate/nothings happening. The way the melody plays is unchanged. I'm wondering if I just missed checking some box or pressing some button.

Hey! Great tutorial bud. I have just started out with GarageBand as my first DAW. And one problem is really bothering me. I used musical typing and used the keypad as keys because I don't have a MIDI. But while recording I pressed tab for 'sustain' , but in playback there is no sustain....is there any other way than just extending the notes in the editor, because that doesn't really have the same effect...thanks in advance!
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mamuli, the sustain notes should carry through even if you're using musical typing. To double check this, open up the piano roll editor and click on the automation icon. (it looks like a little dna symbol), and then the bottom left you can change it from "velocity" to "sustain" and here is where you can edit it your own sustain notes.

Great tutorial! I do have a question about your comment about exporting. You mentioned exporting as Wave if I wanted some to add vocals. If I record a full song and wanted someone to record vocals, is that the best format to send them? The person I want to send a song to also has GarageBand. Would the Wave format preserve all of the individual tracks? Thanks!
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sw; yes wav would be the best file format to send to your collaborater. You could also export each individual track and send them multiple wav files or just package everything into one.

How do I insert software instruments from my midi keyboard into GB ( thru my audio interface) ?
@CharlesCleyn
@CharlesCleyn 4 жыл бұрын
You should be able to just insert your keyboard and GB will recognize it. You don't need an audio interface to use midi. Does that help?
