Meh, the card game in DW3 was a nice distraction, but doesn't feel as enjoyable as the actual card game that was on PS1. Should give that a look if you ever got the time. It's.....kinda long for a card game? Probably longer than it has a right to be, but it's fun.

It was a simplified version of the Card Battle title (which is extremely good btw). When I was a kid, I really liked it too, but in my last playthrough I found it quite boring and a waste of time.

@@Pong670 it took me months to get back on this game when I got stucked as a kid. When I finally understand how to progress, I couldnt stop playing. When I was at the final boss, I liked it so much I decided to let my friend borrow the game. BUT my friend accidentatly deleted my save file thus I never touched this game ever again. It was hard to finish but i enjoyed so much. The only reason why I refused to replay it is because I was so sad about my saved data.

Yea i remember putting tons of time into DW3 and loving it but OH MY GOOOOD. Some of the ways you had to trigger events to progress were SO STUPID!

I don't know, I managed to play through as a kid without any knowledge of the internet, it was just fun to explore and try figuring your way out, felt more real that way compared to quest markers guiding you every step of the way

Getting sweep in the first area yeah like that happens when you literally have a renamon that can spam diamond storm to one shot things to get early exp to train better (yeah I don't have that problem I can always go back to inn) you just don't rush these type of games

Say what you will about Pokemon games, but they at least have fast travel, a way to disable random encounters, and don't require you to grind your teammates endlessly at gyms to get their stats up.

Same, I like the customizable feature of having a few digimon you personally are working on, feels more personal than just hitting level 99 on a pokemon.

BlueMageDanny pokemon games still need grinds much but the difficulty is just so easy that you can just use one pokemon to win the entire matches

Spam your skill that's the trick I found until you get like 20TP then throw all of it to Agi and you'll be fine for the most part (especially since if you pick a pack with renamon in it literally two packs has a renamon) that digimon starts off with a lot of mp you can spam

Nadine Craft Yeah! There's a lot to be said for the v-pet element, but it becomes such a bloody grind. Let your Digimon poop outside a toilet 5 times, screw you, your Digimon is ruined. Enjoy your walking piece of shit, bro! Definitely give 3 a try. It's an enjoyable experience for the most part. If you can remove the frame limit on an emulator to bypass the grinding, that might be a good idea. Let me know what you think when you play it!

Very understandable. Something that might also be interesting to note, and something that I myself didnt figure until I replayed it on an emulator many years after it first came out, is that there difference between the american and the eu version of the game called Digimon World 2003, which has post-endgame Content, a Tournament for the card game, legendary items and more.

I've only just recently discovered that. I'm not sure I could go through it again, but if I ever do, I know which version I'll pick!

Yeah, I didn't interact with it much, and I thought talking about it wouldn't offer anything from my point of view. Personally, I'd rather just do an entirely separate video on either that, games within games, like Gwent, or the Digital Card Battle game, which I adore. Someone should totally do a stand-alone Digimon World 3 card game though.

I love Digital Card Battle. I went looking for DW1 as a kid, but could only find the card game, so that ended up being my only Digimon game for years. Fantastic card game.

I love that now as an adult, but as a kid, that would've infuriated me. At least it's given you some unique memories.

I'll definitely consider both that, and Monster Rancher. I want to return to the Digimon series eventually, because the -World games on the NDS are quite good... It was one of Game Boy's best competitors on the handheld market, designed by the Game Boy's designer Gunpei Yokoi. The first iteration was a 16-bit system with 8 greys and then got a color version, much like the GB and GBC. It was moderatly succesful, so succesful that 15 Digimon games were released on it. 15 god damn Digimon games. Some card-battling games, some fighting games and ofcourse RPGs. And at least the first one, Digimon Adventure: Anode Tamer, came in English. So, if you ever run out of localized and fan translated Digimon games, there is always the Wonderswan. It actually got quite a few license games, like Dragonabll, Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, Inuyasha and One Piece. Even Square supported it with a few FF ports and entirely original games. PS: Jade Cocoon is a cool monster collecting/raising game on the PS1. A Ghibli artist worked on it.

I think they get progressively better in terms of quality and scripting, like, at some point I learned to stop making awful cringe jokes, and swapped to dad jokes, but everyone's giving it their all, and I'm sure there're plenty of people out there who've done it better than me! Yeah it definitely seems stylistic looking back. I don't think the PS1 would load in 2D assets like that. Though, i could be wrong.

this is a known bug which never got fixed, IIRC it never ever happens early on in the game but once you are deep into the game it can occur. It has nothing to do with scratches on the disc, it happens even on emulator. as a kid I remember being stuck underground with this bug.... you can imagine how insanely difficult it was for me to get out and find a save point.

Yeah, the 3D battles were so slow, and that back-tracking was a nightmare. I like that in Digimon World DS, and later entries, they stayed focused and stuck with a consistent style. It certainly doesn't carry the same charm though.
