In this video I visit Holehird Gardens, home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society, to try some garden photography.
I was recently invited by the LHS to run a course on how to improve your garden photography which included my best garden photography tips to help you to take better garden photographs.
A couple of days later I returned to film this garden photography tutorial including tips on how to photograph plants and how to photograph flowers.

Superb gardens, only matched by the photos you took of them. You have made up quite a portfolio of garden photos, over the years, with the Kew garden shot being my favorite. Nice 'alternative' video Chris. I spent a very interesting day last week in the gardens at Powys Castle - highly recommended. Unfortunately, I managed a school boy error and formatted the wrong memory card whilst having coffee (and cake) so lost quite a few close in macro shots and a nice wide angle shot too - doh! But it was a great exercise in pushing the lens to its limits and looking for those backgrounds that blur and show off the subject so nicely. I had never thought of doing flower photos until I did a workshop where Sue Bishop was one of the co-leaders. Her work was an inspiration and she was so helpful in the field. I am now always on the look out for wild flowers in the countryside and enjoy NT gardens in a whole new light (pun intended).

New visitor to your vlog. Love it!! As far as that wide shot, the stuff on the right and the building in the back right don't add anything to the scene. How about cropping that out, making the image a 1 x 1 which should show just the stuff on the lower tier, the stairs, and the greenhouse in the far left background. Worth a look-see. Really enjoyed watching your vlog this week Chris. You captured some interesting composition. Question; Would you feel the need to Reece a location and take images with compacted camera if you wasn't planning on vlogging the location? Hi Rob, truth be told I only scouted out this location because I ballsed up the video the first time around. However, good local knowledge is absolutely essential if you are going to get high quality photos on a consistent basis. It's no good rocking up on location 10 mins before sunrise and expecting that to be enough time to find the perfect composition.
@RobOutenPhotography
@RobOutenPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree Mate about having local /pre-knowledge of a location so as to already have 2-3 compositions in mind. I just wondered if you did this every time as that would be a lot of work! I like you honestly Mate, I suppose its tricky doing a photo shoot on a subject that's not your (or mine) normal format. Vlogging it as well must have been very tricky indeed? I for one take my hat off to you, but I don't really like wearing a hat as my ears stick out!! 👂👂🤪🤪🤣🤣 FYI - I hope you'll enjoy my next vlog........👍📸
