We don't have any of the Tone fertilizers here in Colorado. I really would like to try it! I can get it online through Walmart 'cuz you can get virtually anything online through Walmart... But none of the nurseries carries it. Also, the extension service of CSU does not recommend alkaline fertilizer for our area, and we have bentonite clay that is alkaline. I never thought to ask why not?? I will be calling them and asking! Thanks for putting the thought in my head, Laura 💞! I just love the way you do things! I'm glad your parents have a garden center and a wholesale license, and you rep for the Power Plants, so you can do the things you do! I mean, God! the money that you spend on your landscape is absolutely incredibly unreal! One day I would love to see your expenses for the year although other people I'm sure would think this is incredibly rude of me. But no one ever asks these questions is the same with say, Bondi vet. They never talk about how much the services cost and some of it's pretty damn expensive.... Please say hello to Russell for me I love that cat! 💞😺💞

I thought aluminum sulfate was used to make basic soil more acidic. It is used as an amendment to soil for hydrangeas, azaleas and blueberries. It makes alkaline soil more acidic.

Better to just plant trees native to your area. They are adapted to your soil conditions, don’t need any type of fertilizer and support the local ecology. A win all the way around. Look at the money and time you’d save! And you will be supporting the local food web.

of course, trees (and all plants) make there own food via photosynthesis. We simply fertilize them. Feed the soil so plants can grow!

@craigathonian

You have to be really careful when it comes to trees and fertilizing. What looks good at the beginning is actually shortening the plants lifespan. The fed plants initial spurt is it's weak spot for when it gets older. It creates bigger growth but this growth is actually full of holes, sorta speak, compared to unfed plants, who might be smaller but they are solid for the years to grow on top of. When trees are young, just pamper them with the right amount of water. No food ! A better idea is to research the mold that your tree can use in the soil to get nutrients; mix this in ....then you'll have a wood baby for several generations.

Nice to get to see Paul work after hearing great things about him. Is the water also high Ph? Does that influence the effect of the accidifier? Or do you simply add a whole load of accidifier to outbalance the high ph water?

Aluminium is toxic to plants. Why not just use elemental sulphur. Which is applied at a rate depending on the buffering capacity of soil. Sounds complicated, then just use right plant right place!

Can I give a suggestion? Feed/water along the drip line of the tree. For those that don't know the drip line is where the water drips off the leaves and hits the feeder roots of your tree. Imagine the tree is an umbrella, the water drips off the widest point all the way around

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (Psalms 51:1-4)

So I actually misspoke in the video! The Espoma soil acidifier we use is made from elemental sulfur and gypsum, not aluminum sulfate. Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight. Sorry about that! Technically both should turn your hydrangeas blue but elemental sulfur is organic and aluminum sulfate is not. 👍
