This, among other reasons, is why you are such an inspiration!! You are real, you show failures along with successes, ideas that were good at the time but didn't pan out, plants you just put in the ground that you already have to move... we've all been there, but having someone like you acknowledge the same issues we have, shows us all that no garden is perfect. It's always a work in progress! Thanks💙

I recently planted a 'Sweet Tea' heucherella (to replace two that didn't make it from last season) knowing it's probably dead due to lack of water. I'm an optimist. 😅 The other plant was getting water so it looks healthy.

I was at a nursery yesterday buying more plants for a new garden we're putting in. Haha! There was a woman there who was putting a new garden together and she said something like "You look like you have things well in hand." I said, "I watch Laura @GardenAnswer so I know everything!" Same lightings, planted same day. We had a ice storm here in Oregon this past winter and a tree landed on one, so I’ve had to replace one. Our gardens are all trial and error’s that the beauty of it.

Very satisfying to take care of a spot where your plants aren't thriving. I'm so thankful not to have the soil issue that you're combatting, but then I can't dig a hole in the clay without being on my hands and knees using the claw side of a hammer. Always trade offs :) And how I love hydrangeas. I have so many in my zone 7B gardens, maybe 50, and they never ever disappoint! Keep the hydrangeas coming!!! Love that particular garden of your property.

Laura, yes, learning from you that there are still fails even after years of gardening is liberating as my wife and I continue to learn about flower and vegetable gardening in Zone 6A (Crestwood, KY). What you have also taught us is that gardening is definitely not a 'one and done' type of thing but rather throughout the season you can be adding/moving/changing plants as the weather changes. My wife was convinced she didn't have room to add a 'thriller' to a pot around our pool and I showed her a video of you planting some pots and she quickly saw that our pot could handle another plant or two! Thanks for all you do for the gardening community across the country!

Thank you for showing us realistic gardening! In the world of social media we are always shown what works, what’s perfect. So it’s nice to see that even the best gardeners have plants that don’t thrive. That really shows us what the mindset of any gardener (and really anybody) should be. If something doesn’t work, figure out why and what could be done differently and try again. Your videos are always refreshing and encouraging!

Every time I hear you speak of your high pH soil I remember a 'lecture' I attending regarding adding lime to your soil, which allows the plant to better absorb the nutrients already in the soil. The speaker was Ted Stephens of Nurseries Caroliniana (North Augusta, SC). At first I thought a lecture on Lime - UGH - how boring is this gonna be - but it was one of the best I have ever attended - learned a great deal. You may want to reach out to him for some info regarding this matter. I'm certainly no expert but I always like to pass along info or experiences I have encountered along my gardening journey - just as y'all have done thru your videos. I'm excited for this new variety of hydrangea - we, here in the South, just adore our hydrangeas - wouldn't be a southern garden without them !!! Looking forward to seeing this new hedge in all its glory.

So glad you planted these. We were looking for hydrangeas to plant, and my boyfriend wants red ones. Saw this one and can't wait to be able to get it next year. Did buy the Fire Light paniculata. Can't wait to see this blossom for you. That hedge is going to be beautiful. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks Laura, it’s so nice to see even experts like yourself can struggle with plants. We learn the most in our failures.

Understanding that all gardeners deal with failure and that it's okay to remove a plant that isn't working out is one of the best lessons that I've learned from your videos. Gardening became easier and happier once I learned this lesson.

Absolutely love you show when things don't work out, and when your troubleshooting doesn't fix the problem. There are so many variables in the garden, and this demonstrates it perfectly. I've had some amazing luck with things I didn't expect to work, and some terrible luck with things I thought would do really well. Trial and error teaches so much in the garden.

Perfect! Little lime punch is just what I need for my small size garden, only one problem, I don’t think I can wait until next year.😌

You’re living the dream for many of us who could simple nor afford to rip out a dozen or more shrubs and replace them in one go. But that’s ok. Most of us gardeners already know how to be thrifty and patient and use what’s available to us.It’s wonderful to see what you can do with seemingly ( maybe actually) unlimited access to plant material. Your videos are full of inspiration and information. Thank you ❤️

I really like those new hydrangeas!! I hope they do well there. Seems you and Aaron are going to give them lots of love. I don't want you to have problems but it's good to see that things are not perfect for you either. Our benefit is that you help us fix the problems. For that I'm extremely grateful! ❣

Oh this is going to look amazing! QUESTION: did you mention the mature size, or did I just miss it? Thank you again for sharing your garden with us, having my coffee while watching each day's video is one of the favorite ways to start my day.

It’s so interesting to me how different different areas of the country can be. Here in Tennessee where I live we have very high iron acidic soil and I’d never even heard of chlorosis before I started watching your channel. Our plants get every fungal disease known to man and root rot from heavy soils but iron deficiency just isn’t a thing.

Yup, the deer grazing comment hit home. I just planted my very first Hydrangea this week. It was in the ground for 2 days, woke up and it had been mowed down by the deer. Lesson learned, wrapping next year with some kind of wire. Hope it comes back next year, a very spendy lesson.

I can't wait for the update on these!! I have macrophylla hydrangeas that I'm going to give one more season and if they are a bummer again then bye bye they go. These would be a perfect replacement!
