Good Morning GA Friends!!!! I planted the Pollypetitie in a little space dedicated to my Grandmothers. Her name was Polly and that shade of purple was her favorite. Thanks to Laura and Aaron I now have "rooms" and spaces in my yard that are thoughtful and on purpose. I learn something daily from you all, thank you for everything!

Not related to this video, but I think an excellent video idea for the highlights channel is for Aaron to gather footage from over the years and put together a “what to do in the garden” by month series. It would be nice to see what Laura is sowing, planting, pruning every month in one video. I would imagine it to be especially helpful for those of us who don’t live in zone 6, who can’t follow Laura step by step to have a quick guide/check-list to refer to.

Laura, this is packed full with excellent advice... you never want to plant something that wants to be bigger than the space.. and so many people want to shear everything to death and wonder why their plant is ugly and unhappy.. knowing growth habit is so important... if you want a box shape plant buy a boxwood not an azalea! ❤️

Great list Laura! Deer thoughts (East End LI, NY, zone 7A): from my garden 🪴 aka deer buffet 😭 deer looooove the tater tot arbs, yet ignore the Firelight Tidbits for my more yummy big leaf hydrangeas. Panicle hydrangeas for the win!! My tiny wine Ninebarks are thriving and ignored by deer, and we’ve had so many monarchs on our buddleia this year! Deer not interested in it at all. We are going to plant a hedge of the Winecraft Black Smokebush next year to replace some Japanese cedars that the deer munched to death this past Winter. And a taller privacy hedge of Royal Purple smokebush too!! Thank you for all the great inspiration Laura!!

Oh my goodness, anyone else jealous when she said that deer and rabbits aren't a problem for her?! :) I have to buy that smelly deer repellent in bulk, and then remember when I've sprayed, wait the appropriate time to harvest produce...and forget about hydrangeas. It's a premium buffet for Bambi and Thumper! But I'm definitely going to try some of her recommendations in this video, the ones that aren't tasty. I like the small mature size for our lot!

Uh oh……I’m in so much trouble now. 🤗. I’ve written down 4 of those shrubs you mentioned to put into my gardens. I’ll be reworking my backyard gardens this fall/ early spring because I’m going to finally get a sprinkler system installed in my front & back yards, plus they’re going to put drip in all 5 of my gardens…….this will be the first time in over 30 yrs of gardening (old home for 25 yrs in the desert & current home 5 yrs here in Portland Or) that I’ll have automated watering systems & I’m soooooo excited.

Laura, I had 9 Rose of Sharon pop up next to each other so I divided them into 3 stems each and braided them and then braided the 3 groups into a 9 stemmed tree. It looks so cool and it has 3 colours.

Good morning, Laura ☕️ Thank you so much for this list! Super excited for the Sugar Baby Forsythia 🙌🏻 It’s not easy finding small shrubs you can either tuck in or do a grouping of. I’m a happy girl! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈

Zone 2 is Alaska! And I am so thrilled to see you talking about a plant hardy there. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing land to move to Alaska and I’ve been nervous about finding nice perennials to grow up there.

Just recently found your channel. I just want to tell you I appreciate you so much. I'm learning, we finally have our permanent home and I have loved plants and gardening for years. Finding someone who loves plants and is willing to share all they know is such a wonderful thing for newbies. I am even going to look back and watch more of your videos. Sometimes it is really nice to hear that what you are doing matters! And it does! Thank you so much for sharing. You inspire me to try new plants and shrubs and your wealth of knowledge is amazing and appreciated so very much! Thank you and bless you!

Perfect timing! We just had an old driveway removed to create more planting space. We were talking last night about a short row of something right along one edge of the new space. Now we have some great options.

This is very informative but my go to small shrub is a spirea, I’m in zone 7 and they wonderful for me. They have small purple/pink blooms and the leaves change a beautiful color in the fall. I’ve had mine so long that several times little ones come up and I transplant to other places in my gardens.

Laura, thanks so much for this information! We will definitely try the tater tots. In our area, boxwoods are very hard to maintain. It seems we are constantly replacing them. In fact, last year we replaced an entire boxwood hedge with lavender after seeing you plant your lavender along the pathway. That project was a total success!
