Heidi - what an awesome video! I love that you talked about the age on each of those hydrangeas as it gives us an idea of what to expect. I just planted 2 Pinky winky shrubs and boy that is huge where you have it. I was going by the tag for a 6-8 ft :). There's still much time for me to get there I bet. The surrounding plants add so much more to the shrub! Absolutely beautiful!

Love seeing the fall transition of these hydrangeas. What causes the flowers to not turn pink/red and go straight to brown? I’m in zone 5a and most of my panicles have gone straight from white to brown. Watered daily. Can tough stuff ah-ha be planted in mostly shade and still bloom?

It is going to depend on what hydrangea you have as to how intense you may get the pink coloration. Also cooler nights help with the pretty colors as opposed to going brown. Tuff Stuff will do better with blooming with a little sun.

Heidi, what are the little purple flowers shown at the very end (when showing the LL Punch) next to the Pink Diamonds Bleeding Hearts? I have the Pink Diamonds and have room to fill. 😁

Great video! I'm in Zone 5b, in NW Illinois. I would like to plant a row of compact hydrangeas near our foundation, which can take the Western afternoon sun exposure and overhead watering (they would get water from our overhead hanging baskets). Would Bobo work or is the overhead watering going to be too much for it? What about the new Let's Dance Sky View? Do you think that would work best instead? Any advice would be appreciated.

Either one would be a good choice. The Bobo would be a more reliable bloomer

I absolutely love Hydrangeas, I want to plan a flower bed next spring with a Hydrangea as the center piece, I was thinking of maybe a Bobo but am not certain which one to go with, I am wanting it to be around 3 ft tall or less, bordered by Hosta, milkweed and lavender (mostly full sun)- any suggestions? I am zone 5A. I planted some Bloomstruck this summer and love them! Any advice is much appreciated. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to watching, thanks again!

I would recommend the Fire Light Tidbit if you want to stay below 3' tall. Be careful which hostas you plant in full sun

Hi Heidi! Beautiful garden of Hydrangeas. I ordered my little lime punch hydrangea from Proven Winners and have had it growing in a container for 1 year now. The stems grew as well as the leaves, however, no buds at all. Why could this be please? Thanks so much for your response.

Would it be possible that you have deer in the area? Or how much sun do they get?

No deer at all, and it received 6 hours of sun per day. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the journey. It is very helpful to see each of the life cycle for different type of these beautiful flowers. I have some of them in its 1st and 2nd year and now I know what to expect. Very informative. Keep it coming to inspire us 😊

Hi! I am in Michigan 6A. I have a question about my Bobo, it’s on the south side of my yard, it’s in an area with lots of moisture. Once it blooms it goes quickly from white to brown. I have lots of blooms. Is it getting too much sun? Too much moisture?
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 9 ай бұрын
Are you watering overhead or by drip? If watering overhead you may experience browning faster..

How much would you trim back PW Little Lime Punch for winter this was my first season of blooms. I’m in Minnesota 4b. Thanks
@gardencrossings

I would recommend trimming the top 1/3 off

Do you prune all the panicle hydrangeas every year or every several years? Ty
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 9 ай бұрын
We usually trim at least the flowers off. I would say we trim at least 1/3 off the top every 1-2 years

What is the difference between the panicle and smooth hydrangea? How do we tell them apart, and which is better where?
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 9 ай бұрын
Panicle are also called Hardy Hydrangeas. They typically have a white cone shaped flower that can turn to pink depending on the variety. They bloom on new growth. Smooth Hydrangeas or arborescen hydrangeas are more of a rounded shape, they can start off as white, lime green or pink. Typically they are a smaller sized plant. They also bloom on new growth. Both are great selections. Both can be grown in full sun to part shade.
