Just some clarification :) Bar soaps are typically made using sodium hydroxide; liquid soaps are typically made using potassium hydroxide. "Castile" soap can be either: historically (and typically) it must be made from olive oil to qualify as castile soap regardless of whether it's solid or liquid. Agree that it's probably best not to use either on plants, or as little as possible.

@@nidster63 I would not recommend that, I probably killed thousands, but they keep coming. I used Dawn and water. Actually soap makers aren’t using sodium hydroxide because it’s cheaper than potassium hydroxide. The choice between the two comes down to the type of soap you are making. Sodium Hydroxide creates a solid soap. Potassium Hydroxide will not harden to a solid state so it is used to make liquid soaps.

That may just be his speaking style and some people may enjoy it, but myself and I think most people these days want to get right to the point. Except "What are potassium salts of fatty acids? Potassium salts of fatty acids are produced by adding potassium hydroxide to fatty acids found in animal fats and in plant oils. Fatty acids are extracted from palm, coconut, olive, castor, and cottonseed plants to form this active ingredient *Potassium salts of fatty acids can be toxic to plants. Please pin my comment so people may help me. Hello, I appreciate the information you provided. I followed some DIY videos and created a spray using the following ingredients: 2 tablespoons of dish soap, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 liter of water. I applied this spray around 11 a.m. in August when the temperature was around 35°C. I rinsed the plants after about an hour. However, I've encountered several issues since then. I've observed that the basil leaves have turned black, there are signs of leaf burns on my pumpkins and edamame plants, and new leaves on my pepper plants and other ornamental plants are growing curled. Additionally, the growth points on the pepper and other plants have turned black and appear burned. The tomato fruits display brown spots, and the edges of my mint plant have turned black and become wilted. The common symptoms I'm facing include curling of newly born leaves, leaf burns, and blackening/burning of growth points. I decided to use this spray to combat whiteflies, as I had heard that using chemical insecticides on plants might not be the best approach. I was worried that these insects would harm my harvest, so I chose this DIY solution. It's been a few days, and despite my efforts, the symptoms persist. This is why I'm reaching out through this video, seeking guidance and a solution. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Why are you doing this? Is this a tik tok thing? If your plants are fine they do not need baths. If you have bugs most of the time just using a hose with some spray knocks them off. Here are some tips. Soap will strip the leaves of their natural protectants. Do not leave water on leaves in the sun. The water can cause the leaves to burn. If you use soap, do not leave it on for long. An hour is way too long and use a mild soap and rinse. Do not get leaves wet in the evening because the winds die down and you could promote mold to grow. And last but not least. Do not fall for all this hyped up viral bs going on.
