I just had 4 California Wrens to flock their nest yesterday. They had made their nest in my old hanging basket that had a dead Boston fern in it. It was hanging in my enclosed patio. Smart as they are the parents found a hole in the screen and that’s how they came in and out when it was time to feed. I enjoyed watching the babies feed, grow and fly out. I assisted with one but they all finally reunited and happy.

The bird song was a true delight

Did the "tough love chop" on my annual pots yesterday! But I did forget to give them a little shot of liquid fert, thanks for the reminder!

The weather! I had over 100 petunias I started from seed. I planted as soon as the temps were right. They drowned. I replaced some of them. Lesson learned. Clay soil obviously holds tons of moisture until it heats up then it turns to concrete. Homework is to amend amend amend for proper drainage. This steward is not losing this battle! I totally agree with all the trimming back. I have to do that each year as well. Right now I'm having to cut back my verbena and begonias. When you were taking out the white knight, the nature sounds of the birds are so peaceful to the soul! Also, if anyone is interested, a good product to use against the beetles is by Bonide. It's called "Eight". Has worked well for me. Hope we all get a little more rain.

The heat really hit us hard and early here in South Carolina. Thankfully yesterday we had 3 1/2 inches of rain, I hope you have some too! You could almost hear the grass going Awww😂… My plants are looking sad too.❤

Hi Jenny, thank you so much for your fantastic advise, your teachings have been so helpful gardening in our weather and our clay soil here in the South. You have though us some tips on how to be safe in the garden, would you in the future do a video dedicated to gardening in a safe way? My friend from church had a serious accident in June gardening in her hilly yard, she'll recover praise the Lord but it will be a long recovery. There is so much to learn in this subject from wearing gloves, sun protective wear, use of proper shoes, safety using tools, etc. Thanks again for your guidance.🪴🌺🌞

East Tennessee is in the same boat as you ,hot ,grass turning brown,no rain, until last night we had a 45 minute rain ……..I was so excited ☔️☔️☔️ I have no problem pulling something up or trimming back annuals, I have learned to do selective pruning though the season,something you couldn’t do there is too much,I don’t know how you have time to keep everything going especially in this heat. Here in Elizabethton , TN we have been so hot and dry as well with no rain in the last few weeks but we finally got quite a bit of rain all day yesterday, Sunday the 30th. Unfortunately an area about 20 minutes away from us flooded to the point of closing the road. My area was fine and we enjoyed a long day of off and on rain and mild storms. We haven’t mowed in almost 3 weeks but we can this week ,finally. There’s no more rain coming in the next 7 days though. I hope you got rain yesterday, Sunday.

Jenny, did some chopping on my supertunias yesterday and fert. Its hot here in NE Oklahoma as well. We hit 100 a couple of days already. Hon and its dry. Humidity 110 to 115. We did get a little rain night before last. Sister i know exactly what you mean. Love y'all. ❤

Everything looks great considering you're not getting rain. I think it's good to let people know that you can over fertilize with the water soluble fertilizer. I'm not familiar with the proven winners version, but I know the Miracle-Gro can be disastrous if you over fertilize. If you don't mix it properly. I've done that. Probably more times than I even know. I realize now that you have to make sure you're precise when you're mixing it or you'll burn your plants. Especially the ones inside.

Hello Jenny! Everything is so pretty! I would like to know what you would suggest for Japanese Beetles. I had minor surgery couldn't go outside for a week, when I did, my 3 knock out roses are totally eat up. Never before have I seen them on Bosten Ferns. Well, I have 6 across my porch and they have eaten 2 of them. I am screaming for help! LOL Be Blessed !

Thank you so much for removing my fear of pruning! On shrubs and annuals, I no longer hesitate to whack em' back. I'm down in Birmingham, so a similarly loooong and hot growing season. I recently had some superbena that were failing to thrive in their concrete urns, and I didn't feel bad at all about pulling them and replacing with lantana :) I first found your channel when researching growing hydrangeas in containers about 2 years ago. Now I have 4 hydrangeas, 4 roses, a gardenia standard, and 5 clematis (almost all from Brushwood), a ton of heuchera, hosta, and other perennials - all in pots and planters! Question: are there some perennials/shrubs that I should definitely plant in the fall or definitely wait until spring? I want to add a Scentlandia, elderberry, and leucothoe (and maybe a Summerific hibiscus). Would their roots be developed enough to get them through winter? With the late summer sales in my local garden centers, I want to shop responsibly. I've heard for daylilies and spider lilies, I should wait until spring.

How many saffron finch did you plant in your front bed? How many mini vistas would you plant to get the full look.

Instead of lifting the bucket get a 2 or 4 cup measuring cup and pour in your fertilizer

South of Charlotte here. Extremely hot and dry. I lost my lavender plant. I thought it liked dry, hot weather - apparently not. So surprised. My coneflowers are falling over and withering. If I prune them, will they come back? I don't think so. Yes, it was time for the alyssum to go, poor babies.

If I use Miracle Potting soil in my containers (nothing else is really very accessible or affordable to me) do I still add slow release fertilizer to it as it already has some in it? As I understand it most garden KZfaqrs use Espoma potting mix or another organic potting mix.
