My husband is amazed at the cut job on the metal. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I have a shop with a front and a rear entrance. This makes the shop like a cold wind tunnel in winter. The door I want to control on cold days is the front door, which is heavy wood. Most of the year the door will be wedged open to allow easy customer access, but on cold winter days, the door should mainly be closed, and should self-close after a customer passes through it. Would it weaken the spring or the hydraulic mechanism if the door is wedged open for most of the time as detailed?

nice video, familiar with 2 of those closers, the one with the 3 valves on "short end" (1220?) and the last one you handled, (powerglide series) the valve you called the backcheck, that actually is the delayed action screw, because of hydraulic circuitry in a closer, BC is located on other side of piston, on long end of closer, another place for leaks, the pinion seals, but common from valves too, -Jess the door closer doctor

Tobin, is it possible to fix the sealer on this closer? Are their parts

I see description of parts but no explanation of how they work

Nobody shows how to repair them. Only adjust.

so when the door closer leak, you have to replace the door closer. can it be repaired?

New England Door Closer Co. repairs closers. Sargent does not repair them at there factory.

We have a rebuilding service for door closers, what kind of door closer are you working with? absupply.net/searchfast.aspx?KeyWords=rebuilt+door+closer

final closing should be slow, bad door closers can not do that so door slams, guess pump inisde is leaking at seals , can it be repaired , so they are fixable...l think l read if adjustment screws are removed oil leaks out so l guess l can refill them there, and what kind of oil , if supposed to be glycerine or no whats it called used on jacks then motor oil can damage o rings l think. makes them swell. saw a video someone too something apart and replaced an o ring or said he did. guess next is to google door closer rebuild and d c refill.and now found article about bad o ring on adjust screw damaged from overtightening to prevent leak so o ring was flattened or out of shape, he put a new ring and worked well . but also he put normal oil , bad idea cos o ring material will soak it up and swell or weaken l think. hydraulic jack oil is right probably. one mentioned atf fluid but thats made from normal oil l think so not good. and read about all closers have an air screw on the back tiny to release air or adjust in outflow dunno, hardly. and danger of removing end cap of spring cos of high tension so it jumps out with much force .

I know this is late but saw another video of this guy that used 32 AW hydraulic fluid from NAPA you have to go in on the piston side and insert a paper clip into the bead valve in the center of the piston, it has a small spring behind it forcing it to the closed position the paperclip holds it open to accept the oil, then while pouring the oil in from that end you must pump the armature back and forth to suck oil in until the air bubbles stop. I'm not certain of the O ring replacement on the adjustment screws but it's a safe bet to do that before filling, seems like a simple enough task. Caution when pumping the armature as the fluid may spray out under pressure, when full remove paperclip wipe clean and replace end cap. I've never done it before but that's the best I can savvy.
