As Chandrayaan 3 is orbiting around the moon, sending pics, there was still uncertainty around why chandrayaan 2 failed. What is the chandrayaan 2 failure reason. There were loose statements here and there, but we never knew properly with technical depth. We'll that now changes.

Please forgive my ignorance and lack of knowledge on all of this. How should I conceive this bit of information? Does this mean the lander can land at this speed even if it is 1/10th of gravity on the moon surface?

Unpopular opinion.. please don't kill me! I feel like Chandrayaan 2 failure was a blessing in disguise. It seems like the failure has taught a lot. And ISRO has introduced a whole new dimension of testing and failure handling methods in its mission. This will be amazing from the perspective of future missions.

I thought I was the only one who knew about that damn game. I can't express how many times I had failed before being able to successfully land on moon, and that too with the lander legs broken lol. And I still remember when I was first trying to land there, how desperately I was trying to open parachute in the almost non-existent atmosphere of moon to land there and the game said "can't open parachute in vacuum" and my entire lander just crashed miserably with not even a speck of dust remaining.

For those who do not know: The OHRC camera operates in the visible Panchromatic band (450 to 800 nm). With a Spatial resolution of 25 cm from a 100 Km lunar orbit covering a swath of 3 Kms, the OHRC provides the sharpest images ever from a Lunar Orbiter platform. OHRC is an important tool for Lunar topographic studies of selective lunar regions.

@@babayada2015 yeah, i have a similar feeling. He felt very guarded during the interview. I believe that is due to ISRO not really being a media savvy organizations, if I can put it that way or that they don't do much media interaction. Whether it's due to it being a Govt job and hence things can't really be talked about and deep dived into or maybe because they are scientists and so are unable to share things properly, as they might lack the ability and/or are just not very good with such things. That's why I strongly believe they need a media house. Not only them but even our military ones. Although tbh, all IA, IN and IAF ads in seen are fairly well made. Although some of that Govt way of talking does slips through sometimes 😂😂

@@sreenathasettyBalaganoor yeah that could be the case. And I hope it's that rather than them not showing it to avoid public/political backlash, to keep that funding. Although I do find it counter productive. This came to my mind after seeing Rocketboys, even though the times have changed, I believe that environment of talking less about failures and rather work on them has carried on. Which isn't bad per say, but to me it feels rather negative. But tbh, it feels something very similar to what political parties do in India, where just before elections they count all the things they did. You know? Like almost preparing us for of its a failure they can say "Look we tried!", "we even made these changes". I know very cynical but I can't help but think on the spectrum about this. But I'm just guessing here

Most difficulty part in designing a Model Predictive Controller is the real time optimisation of the Cost function. I believe in chandrayan 2 mission , vikram crashed because of lack of enough onboard edge computation to pull this type of heavy mathematical lifting . Also suboptimally designed EKF just added more to the errors . CY3 will be a success.

Good video and Kudos to the news channel who recorded it ahah. These are a fantastic set of corrections. However a quick question, do we know what sort of processor (ARM or other) they use on-board? I don't have much experience with SLAM approach or Flash Lidar for that matter, but is the LDV a version of Flash Lidar (principle seems similar) and is the processing capabilities a major bottleneck here? I know flight heritage is a major deciding factor from prior mission design experiences but at this point we should explore a better alternative for onboard ops right? Just curious to learn.
@GareebScientist

good question, not sure what they used considering there is a significant amount of image processing happening for example there is a camera to detect horizontal velocity based on pixels moving, camera to understand depth of hazards below based on shadows etc
@justanotherperson2960
@justanotherperson2960 Жыл бұрын
@@GareebScientist Just thinking out loud here ahah. Horizontal velocity is enough but we are looking at massive geometric aberrations due to velocity. I am curious how they correct for it. When considering any optical system (passive), ranging is the most uncertain part of it so depth or altitude is out of question, unless, they do some sort of massive image processing by comparing fiducial marks from the high-res image that's onboard the CH3. Also, LDV seems to be using the inverse concept of SLR. @GareebScientist thanks for the response!

I HAVE A QUESTION: Jitne bhi outer space spacecrafts hain, unse saare space agencies contact kaise establish karte hain? How information is communicated from bodies like landers, orbiters, spacecrafts (like juno mission, Voyager, mangalyaan, chandrayaan, etc.) If possible please iske mechanism pe ek video banayein 🙏🏼

Sometimes i play Spaceflight simulator... And i can relate this... If i will try to slow down horizontal velocity then it may be possible that in that time your vertical velocity increase... Now We have very less time to turn the spacecraft engine downward and decrease vertical velocity.... Edit:- Pray for Chandrayaan 3 ❤

i always wondered how they managed all those complicated landings 50 -60 years ago, with all those primitive computers having few KBs of memory. 🤔

they also had tens of billions of dollars poured into their space agencies back then. India still doesnt have this luxury, as we are a poor nation. Also even back then they used massive expensive rockets to launch big space probes with much more fuel in the probes giving them more flexibility during breaking phases, India's rockets (medium lift launch rocket) cant transport that much heavy loads in higher orbits for the moment. For development and usage of heavy lift launch rockets (can carry more payload), one needs much more money, which is why even SpaceX is trying to build re-usable rockets because heavy rockets cost simply too much for developing countries. Edit: Im just a lehman btw interested in space tech, im no expert

Nicely explained. Well done. It's kinda interesting how similar the errors were with Apolo landing mission... Similar not same... Anyways .. am glad isro learnt from it. Also remember guys. PSLV failed tooo and over these failures it became the workhorse for isro. On back of which isro is standing the way it is today. So this lander failure is just that kind of stepping stone to future on Indians space program. Jai Hind.
