Tristan Kapp - aka ‘The Friendly Satanist’ - is here to debunk all the myths behind the ‘Satanic’ label, and culture behind Satanism. Gareth Cliff, taking an atheist stance in this subject, takes Tristan on in a battle of history surrounding religion. From the early noted biblical times, to Gareth’s favourite era of the Roman Empire, Tristan slates the perverted ideas of animal sacrifice, demon possession, and a so-called ‘devil’ - and breaks down the real Satanic views on life.

Gareth, why you always interrupt? Either way, I know Tristan for a long time and his people around him the past years - and the politics involved. Tristian and Cliff are, very similar in many regards. And both are very territorial on their broadcasting medium. This show was about Gareth, not Tristan. Maybe Tristan should invite G and we turn the table around. As said, they are very similar.

I think you got stuck talking about Satanism as a response to Christianity, it is a pity Gareth doesn't allow Tristan to get to the real discussion. I guess that's why it is called the occult for a reason, the secret knowledge is only available to some.

The irony is that Gareth the atheist seems to be the one in perpetual orbit around Christianity here, while Tristan the Satanist has moved on to better ways of distinguishing his identity while actually standing in solidarity with others who want to do the same.

If someone, anyone isn't free, then none of us are. Fight for minority rights, Tristan; you don't need a mandate! I only see a lot of privilege from a fellow atheist - the lived experience of most does not reflect his own

My main question to Christians was, "why is it that there is so much pain and suffereing under the watch of the Christian God" and all"" prayers fall on deaf ears. No christian person or leader could explain it to me throught their own wizdom or using biblical scripture. In fact they stumbled over them selves in an atempt to answere the question but couldn't. Gareth, I love your show! But you need to let the man with understanding speak!😂 We want to learn😊

This interview is a mess. It's like Cliff thought he'd just wing it without doing any research. Probably thought because he picked up a smattering of hot takes on philosophy and Christian history over the years he’d be set to take on this subject. It’s more like a platform for his ideas and biases than an interest in letting his guest speak. Though Kapp needs to temper his inclinations to throw in off topic quotes and work on curbing a tendency to ramble. It's podcast fodder of the worst kind.

Tristan seem to be under the influence of Restorationism (Biblical Primitivism) and Post modernism. To explain this to someone, let's start by breaking down the key concepts and then showing how they are being combined in this focus. 1. **Restorationism/Christian Primitivism**: This movement seeks to return Christianity to its original, early church practices and beliefs, arguing that over the centuries, certain interpretations and traditions have strayed from the true teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Restorationists often scrutinize historical and biblical texts to identify what they believe are the most authentic forms of Christian faith and practice. 2. **Postmodernism**: A broad intellectual stance that challenges the idea of universal truths and objective knowledge, emphasizing instead that our understanding of reality is shaped by cultural contexts, language, and power dynamics. Postmodernism encourages questioning established narratives and interpretations, suggesting that meanings are multiple and subjective. When he is using a mix of Restorationism and Postmodernism in his work to argue that Christian interpretations of homosexuality (or sexuality in general) are wrong, he is engaging in a multi-layered analysis: - **From the Restorationist perspective**, he might be examining early Christian texts, including the Bible, to argue that the earliest followers of Jesus did not understand or condemn homosexuality in the ways contemporary Christians do. He may look for historical evidence to suggest that current interpretations are based on later cultural biases rather than original teachings or understandings. - **Incorporating Postmodernism**, he challenge the notion that there is one "correct" way to interpret biblical texts about sexuality. He argue that interpretations are influenced by cultural, social, and historical contexts. This perspective allows him to question dominant Christian narratives about sexuality, suggesting that these interpretations are not objective truths but rather constructions that reflect specific power relations and cultural norms. By combining these approaches, he is essentially arguing that not only have Christian interpretations of homosexuality deviated from the original teachings of Christianity (a Restorationist claim) but also that the very process of interpretation is influenced by subjective perspectives and cultural contexts (a Postmodern claim). He might conclude that contemporary Christian condemnations of homosexuality are more a reflection of modern biases than an accurate understanding of early Christian teachings or the inherent meanings of biblical texts. Classic PHD bait.

Too many false assumptions. And inaccurate historic representation does not make it suddenly true. When comparing religion, at least ensure you define Christianity correct. There are so many inaccurate statements about Christianity. SO many things said here about Christianity is blatantly false. There are lots of people calling themselves Christian THAT ARE NOT CHRISTIANS by a long shot. So many arguments here fall flat. Lots of terrible people give Christianity a false impression because of them doing unchristian things. So, discuss what you like It is interesting. But it would have been nice to see a true representative of the Christian world there as well. Many people are insanely unhappy about their life, and this is mostly not Christianity's fault. The world is a crazy place. This guy grew up in a world we grew up. White apartheid South Africa and I can say with certainty say what he has gone through was not the norm. Lots of people in that time, calling themselves Christian, did the most horrible things. So, to now scream at religion when people were the issue back them is way off. HE clearly has confusion due to now structure in his childhood and now all of a sudden it is the whole system that is the problem, rather than his view. He just seems to be not able to rationalize his view as reality and the norm without blaming the whole system.
