Ston, Croatia - Along our Croatia Road Trip from Split to Dubrovnik, we make a stop in Goran's hometown near Ston and Mali Ston; two incredible Croatian villages that people often overlook when traveling to Croatia.
Before arriving to Ston, we stop at the Neretva Delta; home to some of the most delicious fruits and veggies I have ever tasted. This is the true essence of Croatian Food, and a perfect pitstop on our Croatia Road Trip.
We stay at Goran's grandparents house in the traditional Croatian village of Čepikuće. It is a beautiful town that is close to Ston and Mali Ston.
On our way to Ston, Croatia there is a place where you can get some of the freshest oysters and mussels in the world! These oysters are so delicious, and we have the privilege to go out on a boat and see the harvesting process first-hand. This really makes you appreciate the food we passively eat.
Onward to the small town of Ston and neighboring Mali Ston (which just means little Ston). Two of the most Disney fairytale-like towns you’ll ever come across. It is an incredible region that most people skip because they travel direct to Split or Dubrovnik.
Another major reason why this is my favorite place in Croatia is because you have direct access to the island of Mljet. Mljet is an unspoiled island paradise that very few visitors take the time to explore. It’s said to be Croatia’s greenest island, with dense mediterranean forest and clear, clean water. On the Western end is an extensive National Park covering 5400 hectares of land and sea.
One of the most interesting attractions within the national park itself is St Mary’s Island; home to an incredible 12th Century Benedictine Monastery. Dating all the way back to ancient Greco-Roman geographers, The Romanesque Monastery has been rebuilt several times, and still features it’s original Roman ruins. The church itself is simply designed, but its position within this stunning landscape is what makes it so cool to see.
Finish the day up on Mljet with some cliff jumping and it's easy to see why I love this place so much!

I love Crotia!! Been to Split drove down to Dubrovnik all the way down to Kotor. Been driving back door of Bosnia-Herzegovenia -- Krevice, Medjogore, Sjekoce, Mostar Stolac, Trebinje. The region is Amazing!!!! People should rent a car and drive around!!!!

You're my soul brother traveler!! This is also my favorite part of Croatia and most do not understand why. The best way I can explain it is if CA had more water, less people, lower costs, the sac/sj rivers and coast (tomales bay) closer to eachother while more hydrated and less regulated and more organic produce. As you can tell this place in your video is the garden of eden to me. I would love to live in Slano for 6-8 months of each year. Keep working your magic. Your content is special!

Just got back from my annual trip to Croatia where I ate a dozen and a half oysters at the exact same place....Antonio's. Best oysters - sweet, (and no metallic taste like the ones here in Oregon).

The crazy thing is - there are still so many unique, picturesque regions(northern and eastern parts of the country), cities(Zadar, Varazdin, Osijek, Porec, Sibenik) and islands(Brijuni, Iz, Rava, Korcula, Vis etc.) which you didn't get the chance to explore. That being said, unlike 99% of vloggers, you really did right by our beautiful country. You focused on authentic food, relaxing experiences and genuine people. Just an awesome series overall!!

Gareth, you truly are the best vlogger from the Adriatic Sea. Charming, sociable, cheerful, you respect heritage and culture, excellently convey information and emotions, have a knack for video production, an eye for frames, patience for top-notch editing. Everyone can learn a lot from you. You do have one small flaw. Persistently, you refer to the sea as water. But I believe that's something you can fix.

the wooden thing in Goran`s house is vine press. for pressing grapes. everyone had/has it. i still have it. Mali Ston wall was build in just 2y. it served as protection from invaders and to protect the salt mine. all that was once part of Dubrovnik`s republic which was the first to recognize independence of the USA so that makes Croatia your first ally. Protection of salt was needed due to the price of salt in medieval times....it had the same price in gold weight. the wall is about 7km long but it used to be longer

You went to Odysseus' Cave, as mentioned in Homer's Ulysses, Book V. Jeah that ancient poet and the island is first described by Scylax of Caryanda in the 6th century BC.

If you haven't already, when you are back in San Diego, check out the Carlsbad Oyster farm. Fantastically fresh oysters a little closer to home. Loved these videos in Croatia!

That strawberry juice looked delicious! I loved you jumping off the cliffs and going in the caves. When i was younger I loved to do that..Go to Lithuania, the men are considered the most handsome in the Baltic states ,and the women the most beautiful. Or so I've heard .I also hear Barcelona has beautiful people ,too!

As always a wonderful video Gareth !!! However I must say I cringed watching you eat those oysters. My mother used to make oyster stew and I always hated it. I would never eat any raw seafood for fear of getting hepatitis (been there, done that… 😱) I can’t wait to see where you’re going next and get jealous because I can’t be there too ❤

You will envoy the whole of Herzeogvina, most Bosnian kings lived there, and rivers are amazing. It makes a unique region with neretva delta. Neretva is the coldest river in the world!

Since it's already December, best would be to look for flights to Zagreb, capital. From there you have bus and trains to every part of Croatia. You can even rent a car. In summer season you have direct flights to Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar or Pula on the coast. You can find information on Internet. Travelling agencies are also gpod if u dont want to worry about anything.

I dont live far from the place and i never heard or seen it selling it as organic fruits.In fact from older generations back some 40yrs ago they used a lot of pesticides..If that's changed i dont really know.

Dude, you can actually buy a house in Ston. There are a few ruins, where mostly only the outside thick walls are left, but you can get them for cheap. A "little" work and you can have this fairy tale every day.
