Jollibee is the most popular fast food chain in The Philippines. When I was living in The Philippines for 4 months, I would see Jollibee restaurants almost everywhere. From Manila and Cebu down to Bohol and Palawan, Jollibee is virtually everywhere in The Philippines.
Now that I can't travel to The Philippines at the moment, I wanted to try Jollibee here in San Diego, California. So, I invited a few local friends to lunch at Jollibee in National City.
There are so many amazing places to eat in San Diego, California and I can't wait to share more with you all on this channel.

I'm a retired military dude, originally from Texas. I live full time in the P.I. My wife is Filipina. We get Jollibee's quite often, usually for the kids, as they LOVE it! Jollibee's is just as important to Filipino's as McDonald's is to Americans.

When we went to New York and have Jollibee for dinner and it's my American husband first time to eat the Jollibee spaghetti his reaction is priceless he wasn't expecting the sweet taste of it but ended up liking it...he loves the chicken and the gravy too... he is okay with palabok as well. Now that there's a new Jollibee branch here in Maryland we are so happy!!!❤❤❤

I remember hearing a story or a news before, they said that in the 80's, every time McDonald's opens a franchise in any Asian country, it will kill any local big fast food chain in that Asian country. Except in the Philippines, where Jollibee was able to compete with them and even bettered them. And that's why Jollibee is legendary and well loved in the Philippines.

Burger is North America food. Well Germany. You will be bern your cajones eating burgers in the jungle. That is why Jollibee sells fried chicken mainly. Which is Southern US cuisine. The corporate people have to understand you can't sell every food everywhere. Like Jolibee is going to try break into the US in the north. And they are going to fail. They should sell to the South.

Overall the friends are still trying to be honest and did not exaggerate their reactions. Even though they don't have much energy I definitely understand. Jollibee is not for everyone. But I appreciate that Gareth invited his friends to eat Jollibee.

Jollibee is most Filipino kids’ favorite and its almost always a special treat on family days.. but there’s always a kid’s heart in a grown-up pinoy that’s why we can always eat in Jollibee even without the kids..😅 or that we just really grew up accustomed to jollibee that it already became comfort food to most pinoys❤️

I can still remember vividly those days. I was 5-6 years old, when I had to pretend sick in front of my mom (Not my Dad, he doesn't buy any of my dramas though ) so she will get me some; Chicken Joy, Yum burger , Jolly hot dog, fries and of course their collectible toys. Now, that I am walking toward 30's, I do still Love and will be forever grateful for Jollibee. Every bite were a small fragments of my childhood memories knocked together. Thank you for this Video, Gareth. We Appreciate your fondness towards our Culture, Food and our Very own Country, The Philippines. God speed!!

Mas marketable kasi ang mascot ni Jollibee sa bata kaysa sa Mcdo. Tyaka bata pa lang na brainwashed na yung bata na mas attractive yung bubuyog kaysa clown kaya pag laki nila dala dala pa rin nila yun. Kaya hindi mabuwag ng Mcdo kasi deeply rooted sa childhood ng mga pinoy yung Jollibee.

As a Filipino that lives in California I have to drive 1 hour just to get Jollibee. The taste is pretty close from what I used to eat in Jollibee, Philippines. I'm glad they have spag, palabok, chicken with rice though which are my favorites.

@@legendaryTMNICOI agree. Most of them are just ordering jollibee to just give a review on a vlog too. I think the Jollibee in Stockton was closed because they only get few customers here. Wish it will be back though so I don't have to drive far. There's also Jollibee in Concord Ca which is just 2 mins drive from Hurricane Harbor. If you guys ever visit the Hurricane Harbor this summer stop by Jollibee there. Lol

First time I have come across your vlog Gareth and Thank You ! because of you I might start ordering the chicken sandwiches and their hamburgers ! I have always turned my nose up on these food , i only order their breakfast plate like the linganisa egg and rice and the pies when ever i visit Jollibee . Jollibee originally caters the taste palate of the kids but their flavors had innovate and it became the favorite of all ages here in the Philippines! I tried the Aloha burger and I must say that it was one of the best burgers I have ever had (and we have Bobby Flay's Burger Palace in NJ)! The chicken was also surprisingly great with the gravy.

Thank you for featuring Jollibee. I'm Filipino. The spaghetti and burger steak are more like tailored fit for the children. In the Philippines, Jollibee is famous for being a venue for children's birthday party. The crew members host the party with plenty of games. They also provide cake and the party will never be complete without a dance performance by the mascots. It is truly an enjoyable and fun experience for children.

I was shocked when i worked abroad and taste the mangoes. Philippine mangoes are the sweetest. Yellow mangoes in the Philippines are incomparable.

I have been around Jollibees for about 30 years and NEVER stopped to try it, partly bc I didn’t know what kind of fast food they served besides burgers and bc I never saw it advertised on TV. Now, I can’t wait to try it! I think I’m going to take the family there today. 🙂

These guys described the jollibee with an honest taste description. They did not compare to any brand but gave credit according to their individual taste. Theyre fair food critics.

Theres a ' kalamansi' or lime sauce/condiments that should be put on the Palabok. It will taste much better and delicious 👍

The palabok has to be mixed all up with the ingredients, yes with Filipino citrus fruit kalamansi, otherwise, it doesn’t taste good.

So spot on with the canned pineapple thing. It’s literally dole juice left over from the can and that’s what is nostalgic to me as a Filipino American. Filipinos used to get canned shit from America and it’s kinda like our version of soul food. We didn’t have much but we put our soul into working with what we had to provide flavorful food for our families.

One more thing,jollibee spaghetti is really meant for children here in philippines thats why it is sweet...adult can do experiment if you want to upgrade your spaghetti...

I live in San Diego, Rancho Bernardo resident for the past 18 years. My family usually order from Jollibee Mira Mesa at least twice a month. I will never get tired of it! ❤️

I lived in California for 35 years, but I grew up in the boonies of West Virginia and the mid west. I ate at Jollibees several times. America was a big influencer in Philippines during WW2. I think the flavors come from that time when Americans were stationed there. Many of the dishes are not Filipino, but American. But they are a Filipinos idea of what nostalgic American food was at the time. I am Filipino, but I have the same tastes as you guys. It's good, but it isn't Filipino food. It's like how Spam is popular in Hawaii. Not the greatest, but it reminds of another time. The best Big Mac I ever had was in Florence, Italy. It was emotional after eating great local food for weeks. A Big Mac in Moscow was tear dropping, and I had a sandwich the night before made with a tin (maybe 1/2 cup) of Beluga caviar. Not the best burger in America, but it took me to a familiar place. Jollibees is the same. Some Filipinos i know make this style of spaghetti at home in the US. Have a large glass of red wine ready! FYI. Everyone I know out here in the sticks uses the word "boonies." "Boonies" is short for "boondocks." "Boondocks" came from the Filipino word "boondook." "Boondook" means isolated country. It's where the American soldiers fled in the Philippines when the Japanese invaded. Just some trivia. My favorite is the fried chicken and gravy, but nothing beats KFC. Release the grease.

This is a very good review. Gareth is well researched, and very knowledgeable about the background or back story of the food and you know that he is well traveled and articulate. They can relate the food to their personal experiences and family background. It is a very honest take which I think is good. Not all the food will be a winner at first but I tell you what, it grows on you just like the Palabok, the pansit with the shrimp. The spaghetti was designed for kids. That's why it is sweet. It is drastically different from Italian spaghetti which is usually sour. The Peach Mango Pie is way better than Mcdonald's Apple Pie. The chicken is definitely one of the best.
