Great to hear Kurt - glad it's going well so far. Yes, once you have the transmitter connected you have the option for the transmitter data screen as seen in the video, but what I will say is there only seems to be one page that you can display the tank pressure. It might be a little while before I'm in the water with the Teric and Mk2i together, so rather than wait I might do a quick comparison of the 2 based on functionality and menu options, and then something more in-depth once I get them both wet on a full dive trip where they are being used multiple times a day. Agree on the multitude of the menu set up on the Mk2 - a real beast! Thanks for your kind words - as always it's great to hear the videos and the time taken to pull them together is appreciated - means a lot to me! I do try to be completely impartial, although I won't lie - I am a little bit in love with the Mk2i, but then I was really impressed with the Mk1. Was just annoyed it didn't have AI..! Hopefully there will be more interesting Mk2 videos still to come for you...! Take care buddy!

@@BlackMantaPhotography Logged two more dives this morning; two drift dives, water depths between 15-22m (okay, this is the Florida Keys, so it was really between 45-55’ with water temps about 80 F.). With so much data available, configurable in so many different ways, it would be very easy to hit information saturation, so giving some thought to what data on which screens, with a logical scroll sequence, is going to pay big dividends. A lot will depend on what kinds of diving you typically do, even if all you are doing is single gas, recreational limits diving. A couple of things immediately noteworthy - the Garmin compass data is more clearly presented, with (to my mind) more intuitive set up and use. Second, having access to the N2 saturation bar on the margin of as many data screens as you like is really handy. With the Mk1 it was only on the first data screens (I believe); I could see putting it on all data screens. Teric gives a clear NDL number, but doesn’t give access to the actual N2 saturation. That’s what I’ve noticed so far; a couple more dives Sunday, still with Mk2i (minus the transmitter) on left wrist, Teric on the right. If you have any thoughts about what you might like to compare let me know. As you look for comparisons while still land-locked, maybe compare the proprietary dive logs offered by Garmin and Shearwater. I’ve noted pros and cons for both, but still maintain my main log on third party “MoreMobileSoftware.com”; the Teric uploads directly to it via Bluetooth, via an inexpensive intermediary widget offered by MoreMobileSoftware.com. I haven’t yet figured out how to upload the Garmin to the DiveLog, nor how to push from Garmin Dive across to DiveLog. There’s probably a way to do it, I remember having the same trouble initially with the Teric, so will let you know if I figure it out. Meanwhile, thanks again for staying involved with this! And if you get COVID locked down there in the UK, come to the Florida Keys - there is no better social distancing than 10+ meters under water!

I’m pretty familiar with the Teric as been using one for a little over 2 years and covered it in a couple of reviews, but your information is handy to hear of when comparing. I’ve also done a review before on the Shearwater Cloud app so may include some of that knowledge also. Strange you’ve had some issues connecting to the Garmin Dive app and Connect app. I had no issues at all, and in fact when I did pair the device with the app it also showed historic data of diving with the Descent Mk1 last year for some reviews. Have you downloaded the apps and created an account? Very jealous of your FK dives - it’s very grey and wet in the UK right now which is making lockdown 2.0 all the more miserable. @@BlackMantaPhotography the Mk2i connects fine to the Garmin Dive ap (and like you it just continued on after all the data uploaded over the past two years from my Mk1. Problem is getting my long time dive log, “DiveLog DT,” to upload data from the Garmin Mk2i, even when plugged in with the carging cable directly to my Mac. The logbook ap is supposed to recognize the Mk2 as just another drive (and worked fine with my Mk1), but for some reason it’s not recognizing the Mk2. I’m thinking (hoping?) DiveLog just needs to update their drivers to recognize the new Mk2. I know the Mk2 and cable are good, because they are immediately recognized by Garmin Express, on the same laptop. Just need to wait for another software update, while maintaining two logs for a while. Question on the Garmin dive ap: do you know how to edit the list of activities (“What I Did” when you edit an automatic entry)? Thanks!

Thanks for the question - glad to hear you're enjoying the new purchase! Hmmm - that's such tricky one to answer as everyone likes to see different and varying levels on info during a dive. Some people like an uncluttered screen with limited info, and some like everything possible. With the Mk2i, I'd prefer to have the AI displayed (once the transmitter is out), and then have 2 of the customer screen available and have those in the order so you can see those next. I'd move the compass down the pecking order as let's be honest - most divers won't use this on a guided dive across a reef or around a wreck. On the custom screen 1 I'd like to see things like - Temp, Max Depth, HR, TTS and time of day. On customer screen 2 I's like CNS, OTU's, minimum temp & battery level. I didn't care too much or had much interest for CNS and OTU's until we started tech diving, and now it's one of the things I always check after a dive. As for the time of sunrise/sunset - they could maybe be useful if planning a dawn/dusk/night dive, but would anyone really want to see what time the sun would set during a 45-60 min dive?? If there are people out there that would use this, I'd imagine it's less than 0.5% of users in reality!? Haha... I do always dive with 2 DC's - I have a Suunto EON Steel that I have strapped to my camera float housing as this allows me to see depth quickly while filming to make sure I'm not disappearing into the murky depths... What interests me more is the capabilities of the Mk2 above the surface when using as a smart and fitness watch! The capabilities are endless here! Also work called out the Tides app - a great tool to see tide data - very useful if you are planning a shore dive and want to know when high tide might be..! What settings have you found useful?

Glad the video was useful for you! In terms of no-fly time: After a dive, No-fly time symbol appears on the default watch face, along with a no-fly time estimate in hours. This is shown in the red line around the watch face that you mention. You can add the no-fly indicator to a custom watch face - I've just done this to check it works and yes, I was able to set my no-fly as one of the data fields. Hmmmm - I'd be surprised if they did release updates for the Mk1 in such a way? Firstly I'm not entirely sure of the software would allow it as the Mk1 is based on the Fenix 5, but I'd assume they would want people who have the Mk1 to consider upgrading to the Mk2 rather than have improvements for a unit that they already own? Who knows??

Good question - haven’t been asked that yet. Sadly it doesn’t do anything if you turn/spin the button. All of the buttons are inductive and use magnets to operate the controls, meaning the unit is completely sealed with no parts compromising the case for the bottoms. The spinning of the said buttons is just down to the fact it isn’t a fixed piece. 👍🏻

Hi Nathalia - sorry for the delay, only just seen this comment. I'll do my very best to answer these, although I have reached out to see if I can get something more concrete. 1) No - I don't believe you can change that level of detail through the phone. TBH for me, I'd want to also make sure there were no errors, so would want to check and double check the computer itself before the dive if I was changing the breathing gas. 2) Hmmmm - I'm not sure about adding the SAC rate manually into the MK2. That one I definitely need help on. I have the MK2i, so SAC rate is automatically calculated. Although I really should check what it says versus working it out myself manually like the good old TEC days! 3) Finally - I would think this is more a planning tool job before you dive not while you dive. If diving recreationally you will always stay within the no deco limit, and if diving TEC - well I was always taught to plan the dive and dive the plan! If I get any more confirmed answers back I'll let you know. Thanks for the great questions!

Actually both compasses are great. Both have a full electronic tilt compass that are easy to calibrate. I wear the Mk2i on a daily basis and the compass is easy to find from the menu, and has a clear view. It doesn’t jump about like some that I’ve seen. Was there anything specific that you had in mind? 👍🏻

Hey there - it's good question and one that has popped up a number of times before actually. So essentially, the official line on SpO2 (Pulse Ox) is that it only takes a reading during a period of rest. During the night when asleep being the most effective as it take a reading every minute, whereas, during All Day Mode it takes a reading every 5-15 mins. We all know that the body generally slows down when immersed in water naturally with the heart rate being slowed, so I've often wondered if it drops enough for a reading to be taken during either Apnea or Scuba. I haven't actually tried this yet, but "MIGHT" give it a go on a dive trip next month....??? I could copy and paste some data from a FAG sheet, but it might be useful for you to see what Garmin says on this itself. Yes - the action to switch screen isn't fingerprint related or anything like that, so you can switch the screen with gloves. I haven't tried it myself, but was told gloves are fine when I asked the same question myself. The switching screens with tapping is done through a mechanism in the watch that senses the force of the tap. And yes - I have used it for fitness and it works exactly the same as the Fenix 6. In fact I've just got back from a 6k run using the Mk2. Left my phone at home and listened to music on my Bluetooth headphones that were connected to the watch. The music is stored directly in the watch by connecting my Spotify account. All of the data was uploaded direct to my Strava account. As I called out in the first review video I did on the Mk2 review, the Mk2 has the full Fenix 6 fitness capabilities. I have mine hooked up to Strava and also the Garmin Connect app which gives me so so much detail. I believe the Mk2 will also have an update soon that will give suggested workouts like some of their dedicated fitness watches. Hope that helps...

Thanks Anmar - glad you found it useful. Yes I can, no problem. There a number of ways you can set your gas. Either entering the menu with a long press on the middle left button and selecting dive set up, going into gas - select where it says Air (normally defaulted to 21%) and in this menu you can amend you gas mix including helium. Alternatively, from the watch face, if you select the top right button, select the dive mode you want to use, and then press down when you see the edit screen option. In here you can amend the gas as per the previous option. For nitrox you would just amend the gas mix to the % you are using. Hope that helps 👍🏻

There is no difference between the Mk2 and Mk2i other than air integration, but you will one million percent need AI if going down the technical route. @@mordreadnight9514 You're really welcome! On the first point, I wouldn't just look at the Mk2i as a dive computer. It a full on fitness watch and life manager - if you watch the first video we uploaded on the Descent Mk2 (Full Review), you'll get an idea of what it can do. I've worn it every day since the middle of November and would be without it now! I mean, I can even get notifications on it when my washing machine has finished its cycle! To your second point. There's an element of truth in what you say, but when I dive recreationally I always dive with a working SPG and a transmitter. Back up safety and convenience. When we have dived technical it's the same. Being able to see gas contents for multiple tanks on a device is a real benefit. I've never been cave diving - I mean proper cave diving. I can imagine that having a transmitter on a tank you are squeezing through holes would be a bit risky. But for accelerated deco diving to ranges like TEC 40-50m+ I would be comfortable with a transmitter and SPG. I'm sure there would be divers out there that are strictly dials only and that's cool.

Hi Art - it appears not. Just tried to configure one. I can get depth and max depth, or depth and tank pressure, but not all three. The tank pressure reading can only be shown on 2 of the screen set up's, and the values that can be selected on those screens are slightly limited.

Hi Karl - it’s a good question but sadly it’s a no go. The T1 pod from Garmin uses their unique sonar technology so it’s proprietary I’m afraid. Only Garmin transmitters can be used with the Descent.

A pity… Understand that these things will have to develop and get better, but quite sure they loose potential buyers when older pressure transmitters cannot connect.

@@BlackMantaPhotography thank you again for your answer. I asked Garmin about three subjects but received no answer. Maybe you can get them for me. For pleasure diving, I found the MK1 just perfect. Regarding my Job, I asked for three simple things to be added: to know the maximum depth on any diving mode (check!), to be able to know the ascent/descent speed (that was my question here) and not to wait a minimum of 20 seconds to stop a dive (it would be good to stop it at will once you are at the surface). I can get by with gauge mode since I have to use decompression tables at work, but that means I cannot dive at 10:00am for work and again at 09:00am the next day for a pleasure dive because of the 24h blockage of gauge mode.

Hi Samu - yes, you have the exact same customisation options and set up in the Mk2. The only difference is the Mk2 doesn't have the option to add the transmitter page, or to see tank pressure. The Mk2 and Mk2i are exactly the same - just the Mk2 doesn't have the AI options.

Hey there - if you mean can you view the dive data screens on the surface then yes - you can. However, the data from the dive is obviously only shown during the dive as the watch needs to be at the depths and run times etc for the data to calculate (if that makes sense). Hope that helps? :)

Hi there. Are you looking for a DC 'just' for diving or one that you can use as an everyday watch too? It will also depend on the budget. There's some great entry-level DC's out there from Suunto, Oceanics or Aqualung. At the bottom end of the budget, you have items like the Suunto Zoop Novo, or the Suunto Vyper Novo. Both great entry-level. The Oceanics Geo4 is a great DC, as is the Aqualung i300c or the i200c. These are some that we've reviewed on this channel so definitely check the videos out. The Suunto D5 is another option, a little more expensive, but doubles as a good wearable watch. The battery life isn't as good as others, but still a decent DC. Also check out the Garmin Descent Mk1. It doesn't have air integration but an amazing DC. Both of these we have reviewed. Then there's tablet-style DC's to consider. The Suunto EON Core is a good option here, or the Aqualung i770R - again, both DC's that we have reviewed on this channel. At the top end of the budget you're going to be looking at either the Shearwater Teric or the Garmin Desecnt Mk2i. Arguably the 2 best dive computers on the market currently. Hope some of that helps you out - let me know if you have any other questions!

Some menus are easier to navigate than others. I do find Suunto DC's quite easy to navigate, but there are plus points for all of them. I have mine set so the brightness of the screen is high (100%) during scuba activities only John. This way I get good visibility of the screen when underwater, and not wasting battery when using it as a watch on the surface in normal every day conditions (20% brightness). Have you tried that? Try setting the different level of brightness to see if that makes a difference for you.

It sounds like you might have accidentally changed something in the settings - possibly switched of deep stops and safety stops. Had you tried resetting all settings and starting again because I can see no reason why it wouldn’t perform a safety stop unless switched off. I’ll have a look and see if I can see why…

Hi Mohamed - the pulse ox is a stand alone feature. You can have it turned on 24hr a day, or just when you sleep. One thing to call out, it only takes readings during periods of rest, so I find it useful to have it set so it takes readings during the night to save battery 👍🏻

@@mohamednosseir3112 The screen can't be added to the dive data screens. I haven't tried to exit the dive data to go to the pulse ox data on a dive, as it won't take readings during the dive. All day readings will only take readings when you are in a period of motionless or rest. I'm not sure you will be able to be motionless enough for a reading to take place.

With regards to amending the safety stop depth - no, you can't amend the depth, only the duration (3 or 5 mins). I think the 5m safety stop depth is set with most computer brands as it's industry-wide as compulsory. However, the safety stop kicks in when you are within 1m of the 5m depth, again this is quite common as most computers I've used usually start when you hit the 6m mark. @@BlackMantaPhotography Thanks for the reply. I must have a sit down and read through the manual. The safety stop thing isn’t really an issue, it’s when I’m planning a deco’ dive, its giving me stops at 12, 9, 6 and 3m. On the Teric I had an option to have my last deco stop at 6m, basically the computer would add the 6 & 3m stop times together. The benefit of this is for deco, if I use 100% O2 at 6m the PPo2 is 1.6 which makes it a lot more efficient than using it at 3m (PPo2 of 1.3) by combining the two stops at 6m I get out of the water a few minutes quicker.

@@MarkN67 ah ok - I hear you. I misunderstood you the first time round. I’ll see if I can find out if it’s possible, as I’m not sure from looking myself. Agree with the Teric rolling it into one, and my feeling is the Mk2 will do the same, but until I can actually dive a planned dive it’s hard to say - I don’t think I’m going to get in the water with it again until we’ll into the new year now. The only dive computer I can remember forcing the 6m and 3m stops in a planned dive was the Suunto Steel. That was an accelerated deco dive with 50% and 100% stages. But... that might be down to the Suunto running the RGBM algorithm - I think the units running the Buhlmann will/should be the same which makes me think the Mk2 will act in the same way you experienced with the Teric. 🤔
