I use a 130 plus together with a speed sensor in the forrest, and a heart rate monitor ( because I’m old ! ). It works really well and I can keep an eye on the heart rate. Small, lightweight and easy to read. A great bit of kit. I use the little included lanyard to make sure I don’t loose the unit in event of a crash etc. Just wrap it round the bars before you mount the unit ! Handy little safeguard.

I'm still using my old edge 800. I bought it in August 2012 (9 years!) It's amazing how well the battery still lasts, as I do a lot commuting midweek and longer rides on weekends. I don't have it here at the moment, but it already has good mileage. At least 62,000 km. It's already showing some signs of age and battles. The rubber that cover the power button wore a lot and I had to put some tape to protect it. If I have to buy another one, it will most certainly be another Garmin. (english is not my first language) Keep up with yours great videos!

Wow I check your chanel every couple weeks and your newest content seems like it's customized just for me! I've been using the 130+ most of the riding season and I really like it except the exact 2 things you mentioned. I also just replaced a Maxxis DHR II with a dissector yesterday and have only one ride on it so far. Great minds think alike. 😁 The slightly inaccurate distance and the auto pause feature on the Garmin are a bit annoying. For technical mountain biking I leave the auto pause off because in steep switch backs or other slow trail areas it stops tracking while riding. I really wish you could lower the speed at which the auto pause is triggered. To improve the distance tracking I just ordered a speed sensor online and it's supposed to arrive this week. I look forward to testing out the unit next week. Thanks for some more awesome videos. 👍

I use it and I love it so much! The only downside is the battery does not last 12 hours race for me. But since I only do one or two races like that a year I do not really mind carrying an extra battery. For longer rides, not races, I will be carrying a battery for everything else and I will have plenty of rest time to charge things so that's totally fine.

I use my phone with Strava (on private) mainly because I also need it for my music. I ride 99 out of 100 rides alone (on purpose because it saves money for a therapist!) and really like to have my BT earbuds on all my solo rides. I have been kicking around the idea of a Garmin, but since I don't race and don't need any super accurate data, I'll probably just stay with my phone.

I started using Garmin Edge 530 this May for training, highly recommend it for structured trainings. Edge 130 Plus is my second favorite, which I will probably get next year for my fiance to track her rides, as she is not gonna use it for training and navigation

@@LoveMTB yeah, at first I did not think it will make my ride as comfortable as it does, but it's totally worth the money. Given I have a Garmin Watch too and I can track my gym sessions on it, so I use just connect app to keep tracks on my fitness level.

I use my Fenix 5 Plus to record my rides which is paired with Polar Verity Sense HR sensor. I'm just a basic user also, but I like to monitor my vitals when I ride. The Fenix doesn't do a good job doing that but the Polar optical sensor is just as good/accurate as the traditional chest/stomach straps but with the convenience of wearing it on your arm/bicep instead.

My notes - there are less ugly rubber covers, you can combine them with tempered glass for great protection. Use tether, garmin mounts are designed to break (instead of having device mount fail), so my garmins flew all over the trails. And last, but not least - you don't need speed sensor, unless you have OCD. It does wake the device a second or two faster and provide more accurate speed in super covered forests, but do you really need to know your speed? Go out and enjoy your ride, don't bother with such details.

@@LoveMTB you are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. That said, in the grand scheme of things - it's the 1-2% meaningless difference that's not worth obsessing over, the device will handle it fine and you'll have a beautiful strava/garmin connect gpx after. Less devices, less batteries, less hassle. I even decided not to install cadence sensor after bike service for this year and I don't miss it. I thought about getting rid of strava/garmin completely, but I have way too many friends there... tho I am certain I had more fun before Strava.

looks like a pain, if even possible, to be charging the unit while youre riding. My wahoo will last for quite sometime jsut recording my ride. but if i use it to plot my route and give me turn by turn the battery gets eaten up almost two times as fast. So on a long ride in unfamiliar territory i had to plug it in to a portable usb brick to keep recording ride data. as always a thorough video. really need you to get into gravel bikes as well. so much gear to be vetted

Not sure about the Edge 130 Plus, but the 530 and 830, and so on has a extra batterypack you can buy and put under the device on the GPS mount, and it gives you an extra 24 hours of battery.

who cares about cadence and precise distance? :-) I would rather have heart rate, power, and remaining climbing distance. Until recently, I was happy with a basic fitness watch Garmin Vivosport, it recorded tracks correctly, and gave me quite an accurate heart rate so that I know when to slow down if I don't want to suddenly run out of juice. And when lost, I would just take a phone out of a pocket. Then I took part in an MTB marathon in mountains. There I had much more occasions to get lost, and very rarely there were sections when reading the HR from wrist was at all possible. So, after trying a phone mounted on a handlebar, and dropping it on a rock, I am looking for a proper tool for the job... Lezyne devices seem to be tricky when it comes to maps and navigation, and I heard rumors about their buggy firmware. So my candidates are Garmin (everyone has them) and Bryton (they look promising).

@@LoveMTB it was in Carpathian mountains, Ukraine. thing is, when a swarm of xc cyclists starts, and you are in the pack, it's quite easy to burn all fuel trying to keep a place in the flock. Had it just today, I see that hr is a bit in red, but because of excitement and a spirit of competition, I just could not move it to green. So I burnt matches during the first technical climb on muddy lose rocks, and then only enjoyed downhills :) Needed to walk some climbs, as I was out of juice.
