I've had the Garmin Fenix 7X for a month now - Am I still happy that I picked it over the 6X or the new Epix 2?

Great work! I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the accuracy of both the fenix7 and the epix. I've had the 3, 3hr, 5x and 6. I upgraded to the 3hr simply because it had the wrist HRM, but the other swaps were all because I was frustrated with poor HRM accuracy. Every model seemed to over-promise and underdeliver. My fenix 6 was rubbish for tracking heart rate, and frequently lost connectivity with my garmin hrm strap... So, a long-winded way of asking - is the 7 worth revisiting the fenix range???

Thanks for the review. You answered the question I most needed, the swipe map feature is exactly what I need coming from a world without this ie., no 6X. Going to go ahead and upgrade at next watch purchase and spend the money for the 7X. Very useful info and loved that you came back months later to answer the questions you are asked. Same thing we all wrestle with.......was it worth it or not! Thanks again, and NO - don't sell the kids, but good luck with the watch

The 7 is so much more responsive than the 6. I use garmin for many years but I really enjoy the touchscreen for non-activities. More than I‘d have thought. And I have to say that my first thought when I took the 7 out of the box was „wow it looks so much nicer“ and I felt the 6 immediately looked like some ancient tech. I like the new features and the small tweaks to common guy items makes usage way more convenient as well. All in all I love my F7X Solar. Just wish it would integrate better with iOS.

I upgraded from a Fenix 5 plus to a 7 recently and I am really happy with the upgrade, it’s an easier decision to move two models up than one. Quality straight talking video that hits the nail on the head. Big price, small upgrades. I would of course love the 7 and would use the scrollable map function when trail running, but I got my Fenix 6 for 375 a year and a half ago and could sell it ( maybe ) for 200. Then to fork out the extra for the small improvements would hurt. Happy with the 6 so maybe will wait for the 8.

I bit the bullet and upgraded from the 6 to the 7x. Still waiting for it to arrive but the larger screen with solar and touch(which I want for maps), torch, plus sapphire over gorilla glass will make it seem like I'm getting something! I agree that it's not worth the price to upgrade when you look at it in terms of pure specs but the 7 pretty much solved all the minor gripes I had with the 6 so I should be happy with it and won't need another watch for its lifetime! Unless some new obscure sport gets invented which I suddenly get really into and only the 8 will track it 😂 Edit: this is the second video I've seen from you, both covering the fenix 7, and I've subbed for the straight talking and upfront opinions. Need more of this sort of stuff

I’m still using my Suunto X6HR, bought in 2006 but think it’s time I upgraded as I’m on my last strap (can’t get them anymore) and it’s held together with superglue and electricians tape. I hadn’t appreciated though that the 7x is the same size as the old 3 and liked the size of that, I didn’t find it too big. Plus you’re right about how it looks, I want my device to look “Grrrrrr” even if I don’t 😆. So given that I liked the size of my old Fenix 3 I’ve ordered the 7x. I think the Epix would feel a bit small even if it has got the fancy screen.

I was not a former Garmin watch owner... Personally, I do like the "prettier" screen of the Epix 2. I felt the battery life was more than enough for the activities I use the watch for... hiking and biking. The Epix typically lasts 7 days or more before I need a recharge, which is longer than I'm ever going to be out on the trail without a stop some place, where I could recharge if needed. The watch really looks good, love the screen!!

@@BillLayton interesting. Btw, if the green light leaks through that means that the watches aren't sitting tight, which may (very likely) affect quality of readings. Important note on the heart-rate monitor! There is just one thing to add to Marks great video which is probably petty to most, but essential to me. This is the first Fenix (from what I know) that has the heartrate monitor embedded into a slightly raised element within the chassis. That way the recording (this is when the lights are constantly flashing for a short period of time) is less visible (if at all) as the monitor sits closer to your hand. As I wear the Fenix devices for years day and night, the light that escapes during the day would obviously not bother me but it happend frequently that I woke up from my Fenix 6Pro especially when having my hand close to my face.

Thank you for demonstrating the flashlight. I was wondering if it was usefull. As a volunteer firefighter I usually get out of the bedroom at night in full darkness, so I don't disturb the house. Now I can do it with the light of my watch. You convinced me :-)

Glad it was helpful! I use it all the time for going to bed when the house is dark!

Recently recommended your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Informative, witty and aspirational, keep it up! Have you ever tried a Stryd running power meter? Would love to see your take on it.

I haven't tried the Stryd, but got the Garmin HRM Pro after my polar HR monitor shed its mortal coil. It has running dynamics as well so its another cool toy worth looking at. If u wear a "strap-on" (phnarrrrr) it saves another widget to coordinate. The data is all in garmin connect.

Think I’m going with the latte drinker special after looking at the much better map reading detail over the 7. 64 colors can’t complete with 64K. Pass the latte. Excellent reviews. Thanks

My kids were only enough to get a used 6x sapphire, but I love it (coming from a 305 haha). If I was a better parent or had more kids, I'd have a 7x. I love how your videos make me laugh out loud. I have also never had kids - I was lying before.

Still rocking my VivoActive 3. I'm not the target audience for any Fenix device, but I really LOVE the way they look. I use machines and rarely, if ever, need GPS on my watch. Great video though. Enjoyed the discussion.

Haha me too. I know I don’t need all the features of a Fenix but I still want one!
