He has literally 10 of these things. plus i mean a subsciption and activation fee. helped me so far a lot more than channels posting rehashed garmin adds.... they are so annoying. glad he actually shows it being used. 2 thumbs up

Thank you for the compliment and thumbs up. Yah, I have 12 or more of these and none of them have been free. I'm planning on adding the Garmin Tread series soon, but I'll be starting with the least expensive of those as they are the most expensive. I have a lot of videos planned for 2024 and many more ideas to keep growing the channel. Thank you for stopping by and leaving the comment. Rick

Watching friends use other touch screen Garmin navigators while hiking convinced me to never buy one. Once it starts raining, operating the device via touch screen becomes very difficult. The raindrops interfere with the screen's ability to detect touch. Great comparison of these two devices, I've been curious about the new Montana products and how they stack up to the other Garmin units.

This might be the conventional wisdom had I not worked with veterans who made their iPhones work for them in the field in Iraq & Afghanistan. Granted it was a desert environment but when it rained they moved under light cover. And for the remaining 95% of the time - no issues.

About my experience hiking,climbing in the Swiss Alps and also with bike and car i will stay with my 750i. It Is big, i know but for me is really good. I have the Mini 2 too and Delta Tactix watch. Many times a had been in the midle of nowhere, with snow, really windy,high altitud and i had no problem at all with the 750i. The lowest temperature that i was with the Montana 750i was -28 Celsius and worked pretty good. Battery is keeping long time. In bad weather, low and high temperature works amazing. The reason to buy the Mini 2 is because i want have a second change if i lose the Montana 750i. Cheers 👍

Hey Rick, excellent video. Thanks to you I’m probably going with the 67i and pairing it to my iPad for when I’m driving in the wilderness. I just did an experiment with my Fenix 5x Plus around the neighborhood and it did great, so I’m going to presume the 67i will perform just as well. Thanks 😊

@@outdooremergencytech Hi Rick. Early March 2024, and during a road trip from Dallas to Houston after the April 8, 2004 eclipse, My iPad would link with both my 67i and my Fenix 5x Plus as I was driving. But you had to pick one to use at a time. I preferred the 67i but it doesn’t have the same ease of use as my Fenix 5x Plus as far as recording my movement. If I needed a large high resolution map with a lot of run time, pairing the 67i and iPad seemed to be a good combination. Thanks again for the information. Andy C.

Great tips… I LOVE the replaceable battery (the 700/700i/750i) will LAST a lot longer “useful ownership life” since you can swap out batteries for $40 or so. Sadly much less “useful operational life” on one battery… perhaps due to screen usage? I just find it really hard to spend $300-700 on a an “electronic device” whose battery will die in 5+ years (like phones).

I ended going 67i for backcountry Snowmobiling. Main reason, the 67i is considerably smaller, and buttons can be used with gloves on, and way better battery life. Now I can wire in a charger on my Sled, but mounting the Montana is gonna get beat up, knocked off, etc. Riding tight technical treed terrain, and the sled gets rolled over, to get unstuck, ( trust me, it's easier). I just wish I had the 7s guage cluster, that keeps track of other sled that have that polaris guage. It's an on a map display, showing where each rider in your group is, accurate to 3 feet.

I know you track other riders in your group if they all had inReach satellite communicators, but they would need to have the professional plan. That's something I have talked with Garmin about several times and will probably get myself soon so I can show people how it works in future videos. Rick

@@outdooremergencytech : That would be a great feature! I spent a few hours looking it up online, and couldn't find anything definitive. It would be really great if it would connect to the Polaris 7s display, with ride command, but that's probably too much to hope for. The Trail tech voyager pro is supposed to, but that's yet another device. Would be nice if these companies would play together better.

Can you get good mapping on the Garmin products like the 67i and 750i for South America, particularly the Andes and Patagonia?
@outdooremergencytech
@outdooremergencytech 7 ай бұрын
First, you do get detailed "worldwide" maps on the GPSMAP 67i, but not the 66i. I don't have my Montana with me today so I just talked with Garmin about the Montana 700i / 750i and here's what they said. The Montana 700i & 750 operate like the 66i. You only get sections of the world, and you may get South America maps if you buy the 700 series in South America. You can always get more detailed maps by purchasing them or if you get the Outdoor Maps+ subscription for $49.99 per year but they don't have as much to offer on maps compared to the 67i. I suspect the Montana series is due for an upgrade soon, but Garmin would not tell me anything about that. If you want more information, I would recommend you call and talk to Garmin Customer Support as I am at the limit of my knowledge of the maps on the Montana series. Rick

@@reckonillone consideration for me, is the replaceable battery. Search “battery pack” on the garmin website and you can see prior models has replaceable batteries, but now only the Montana. So the gps map 67i/etc device life is as long as the battery… for $500+ that may be a consideration vs continuous battery life.

Can I use the Bluechart maps in 67i?
@outdooremergencytech

First, I don't have any first hand experience with this but support.garmin says that it is available on other handheld devices but the 1-foot contours might not be displayed. Also, there is a note that the Bluechart g2 is discontinued. I'm seeing another page from support.garmin that does not recommend using BlueChart with other handheld devices. I would recommend you call Garmin and ask this question directly. I will make a note to ask them myself and then respond back here with what I find out. Rick

Touch screen Garmin GPSs really don't work well with water sports. Once the screen or your fingers get wet it doesn't work well at all. You need the buttons if you use it on the water. I learned that the hard way going from a GPSMAP 60sx to an Oregon. I am now ready to jump to a 67i.
