I have recently bought a Garmin RV Cam 795. I set the unit to not take me on a route that would put me on a Ferry boat. Guess what? On a trip to Mayport Naval station in Jacksonville, it led me directly to the ferry. Needless to say, it was not a good night. It then routed me through very tight streets and brought me right back to the ferry landing. After this I had to use goggle maps on my cell phone to finally get to the main gate. After this, I don't have much confidence about the bridge weights and Tunnel information. Not sure what to do other than continue to study the workings of the GPS and be very careful about believing it will keep me safe. Another thing was on the interstate it kept telling me that I was over the speed limit. The GPS was saying the speed limit was 40 MPH . the interstate speed was a minimum of 45MPH and Maximum of 70MPH. I was traveling at around 62MPH.

We have had same issues as some with the 890RV, just the other week on our way to Kenisee Lake RV park in Jefferson Ohio it tried to have us make a left on mill creek road off of rte 45. The campground is on this road but there is 10foot low bridge. We noticed this just as we turned on the road. As we were looking at the map to reroute ourselves a man came out of his house and said it happens all the time. He gave us directions and we had to back out onto the main road and go around. It gave us no warning or anything, would have let us go right under. (we have our height set to 13' 6" and it was on our 5th wheel mode, we double checked). We have also had it try to reroute us in virginia to go around a tunnel because of propane when we were allowed as long as it was off. And it finally stopped "double talking". Since day one maybe a couple times a week she would start talking after we hit start and then start talking over herself. It was like 2 Lola's talking at once. (our nickname for her, although maybe now LuLu lol) Maybe the last update fixed it. I was going to call but just always forgot. Otherwise we are happy with it. We expect a few things on occasion to not be perfect but for the price really should be pretty darn close to perfect. RV Trip wizard is still the best routing way to go. Never fails us so far.

I just drove from British Columbia to Quebec and back with my 5th wheel using my RV1090 and it sure made my driving experience much better. That said, once I was directed to a specific gas station but the overhang was way too low for the height of my rig, which I had entered into the Nav...so not 100% fool proof...
@Technorv
@Technorv 2 жыл бұрын
The height of your RV only applies to routing for roads and not your stops. The Garmin does not account for overhang heights at private businesses; you would need to decide which is best for you. For us, we always select truck stops since we know we are able to fit in there. In order to ensure you choose the correct gas station for your particular RV, you can sort them by filters as well. Hope this helps!

@@Technorv Thanks Eric for the feedback. I've always gone from British Columbia to Quebec through the US in the past as your road systems, rest areas, truck stops and many other amenities are 100% better than what we have in Canada. With the border closed, this was my 1st trip using the Trans Canada Hwy and I learned that if there's a next time, I will better prepare my trip & stops. You guys have a great day and keep up the good work!!!

Hey Eric!! I add 6 inches to the overall height of our rig in the 890 profile as I know I'll be the first guy under the bridge after repaving...and they won't mill the road surface in advance! One other item; regarding software and map updates (I left a note on your site) via Garmin Express...it is NOT compatible with Chromebooks, only Windows and Mac platforms. So while you can use the Chromebook USB to power the 890 (it must be hooked to power for updates) you must update wirelessly. It's best to update at home prior to travel as well for multiple reasons. Hope to see y'all at the Tampa RV show in January! May need another TST TPMS.

We bought a Garmin 1095 RV (10 inch screen) from Techno RV at the FMCA Tucson Rally in March 2024. We have a Winnebago View which is on a Mercedes Sprinter Chassis. They should have warned us that the 10 inch screen is too large for our windshield. We returned to TechnoRV's booth and asked how to mount the large screen. No one wanted to talk to us and told us we needed to call Garmin or the TechnoRV office. Beware that once Techno has your money they aren't interested in your problems with their products.

Great video! I bought my Garmin RV 1090 (from TechnoRV) and MOSTLY like it. There is no way to mount to anything except a windshield. In my Class A, that means mounting it pretty far away and I can't reach the unit while driving, not even close. That's short-sided of Garmin not to offer a mount that'd work on a dash or other surfaces. It means I can't use 90% of its features while on the road. Much more importantly, it sometimes takes me on roads that big vehicles are prohibited from. Recent example: it routed my on the Garden State Parkway in northern New Jersey which has a 7,000 pound limit. There needs to be some additional quality control, Garmin!!

Hey Matthew, you may want to look at a weighted dash pad. The pad sits on your dash and the Garmin suction mounts to the dash pad. You can do a search on the internet for "Weight GPS Dash PAd" and this will show you many options. We have passed this information on to Garmin, thank you.

Tried the 10 inch Garmin RV...way too big for my Ram pickup truck (tow a 41ft 5th Wheel). I have the backup cameras and TMPS screens as well (in addition to the standard 10 inch Ram screen), so add in a 10 inch navi and it's just too much. Trying to sucktion cup that to the windshield, forget it...not designed for that! It creates blind spots. I returned it (to Amazon) and ordered the 8 inch (from Techno RV) and it is perfect! Now, I did create a custom mount "shelf" for my Ram truck (remove the "sunglasses cutout above the Ram entertainment system, bam...great place to screw a custom mounting shelf to) which helps, but I could not have done it, and have it turn out as nice, with the 10 inch version. Very happy with the 8 inch version. Now, I'm a LONG time Garmin customer. I've been using Garmin navi's since the old days of the Garmin 2610 (if memory serves me) and had mounted it on my 2003 Harley touring bike before navi on a touring bike was a thing. I've had probably 15 Garmins, traveled thousands of miles (both US and Europe) using Garmin to keep on track, and I keep coming back. I can't say they're "perfect" and without issues (they have quirks and my other Garmin 890 [I think] that I use for my Harley is a bit quirky and I'm not 100% happy with it, but it's the best thing out there for my Harley so it is what it is), but they have the best interface on the market, and the old Map Source software was awesome for planning, sharing, and uploading custom routes (I have so many custom routes, map databases, waypoint databases, etc from that software I just can't delete!). I'm not as happy with the Basecamp, but I'm adapting. I haven't used Basecamp with the new 8 inch RV model, so looking forward to trying it. All I can say is I would never use any other navi than Garmin. I've tried Tom Tom and hated it, I tried the apps on the smart phone (early days of smart phones all the way to today) and they just don't cut it. I've seen other brands out there, but I do have a level of trust in Garmin, so I'll stay on board this train. Thanks to TechnoRV for delivering my latest one so quickly (Randy from Parker) and I encourage Garmin to keep on developing and improving their already great products. Hey, how about adding a database for Pilot/FlyingJ/TA truck stops to help us long rigs to NOT HAVE TO WORRY about finding a perfect fuel stop (and be able to use our TDS fuel card!) :-)

I have a Garmin RV 890 and I love it and highly recommend getting one if you have an RV of any size. My only complaint is for me to go just about anywhere I have to pass under an arched bridge. In the breakdown lane the bridge is 13' 2" (my RV is 13' 3"), the main driving lane and the left lane are both over 14'. However, the Garmin will not route me and says I can't go under the bridge and there are no alternative routes. I was wondering if there is a way to tell the unit not to worry about that bridge?
@Technorv

Hi, there is not a way to take a bridge out of the routing. That is a interesting situation you had there. I will pass that along to Garmin, thank you. Eric
@CaliforniaTravelVideos
@CaliforniaTravelVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Sadly, from time to time the Garmin database does not have an entry for a bridge and will insist on rerouting you perhaps 50+ miles around a legitimate safe route. Or worse, once Garmin took me down a dead-end road with no place to turn around without going on private property and getting chewed out by the owner. At that point it's tempting to reenter your RV dimensions to that of a passenger car in Garmin or ignore it and resort to a "Plan B, C..." (Rand McNally 2022 Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, Google, Siri...)

Can you program your ground clearance? I have a LQ horse trailer that rides very low to the ground. I’ve already had to repair my jack stabilizer due to a poorly built railroad crossing and I don’t want to do that again. Follow up question, does the unit tell you when you are approaching an agriculture check station (similar to a weigh station)?
@Technorv
@Technorv 2 жыл бұрын
There is no place to enter ground clearance in the Garmin unfortunately. You could say avoid dirt roads, but that is about it. I am not sure about the agriculture station. I have never seen that, but that is not to say it is not buried in the Garmin somewhere. I would think that would be a feature on the trucker version, but I would have to follow up with Garmin about this.

Have the RV890 and having a hard time with lack of map detail traveling through Utah and Wyoming on I80. Shows nothing but the highway. Even once I get to a town/city and am navigating to the park it only shows the checkered flag (park) as a point off the highway. No roads or directions to the park. Just blue dots in a straight line from the highway to the flag. If I didn't have Google Maps as backup I'd be SOL once I left the highway. Have updated all maps and software.???

Thank you, great info. I have a question or 2, maybe you can help me. We live in New York and we're heading out West for 2 and a 1/2 months in May for our biggest trip yet. We are only RVing for one year.. We have a class C and flat tow our Jeep. We have been using Google maps and RV Life and it works good for us so far. There has only been one time where we lost our signal and got a little jammed up but nothing too serious. Going out West is another story. So we're thinking we mabey should get a Garmin. I just looked on my dashboard and windshield and there really is no room for that huge 8" screen. Even 6" would be to big. Do you think I should just get one that's made for a car? Or do you know if there are any other options? Or is there a small one that I could put in the height of my RV? I like the idea of putting in the height so it don't direct me to any low bridges. I think one that's much smaller would maybe fit ok. I don't need a big screen but I like the idea of having a satellite map instead of something that could lose the signal. I'm just looking for some advice, any help would be appreciated. Also does the Garmin have an attachment where you could hook it up to something other than the window? I'm also gonna try to call the Garmin company hoping to get someone on the phone for ideas. Thanks

If you are wanting a smaller screen than 7-inches, I would look at what they have for truckers instead of car versions since it has similar features as the RV version as it relates to height, etc. A car GPS will not have the same features or points of interest that you will want.

Mine came with a small auxiliary battery and a short power cord to connect it. To be clear, I have the RV 1090 which has power coming from the magnetic mount, internal battery, and a connection for the auxiliary battery.

So far, my experience with the unit has been far less than satisfactory. When I downloaded the app to my phone it wants me to click that I have read the license agreement that NO ONE READS. Because the place I need to click on is on the far right and 1/2 way off the screen it won't allow me to click it. This renders the app useless and thereby the features that I paid for on the RV 890 also useless. Also, the only way to power the unit is through their connection, which is not a common connection like a usb or hdmi. In addition they want you to use a cigarette lighter. Yep you can cut the cord and splice the wire, if you're very careful. I just feel this product and the interfaces are poorly thought out. Does it navigate, sure, but so does my phone and my phone does a lot more.
