The Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph measure the velocity of bullets, arrows, in fact anything small that flies at speed! It comes in an industry leading small form factor. The question is, does it work, is it tough to set up and can it compare to other larger, more expensive options. I have put this unit through its paces. I've had mine for about 4 months and it has allowed me to chronograph my handgun reloads for the first time. I couldn't do this with my magneto-speed chronograph.

One thing the Labradar does is multiple velocities down range. Not something everyone needs, but it can help you calculate BC.

No different to the Garmin unit.

@@thatgearguyGarmin only does MV. The OG labradar does multiple velocities down range to calculate BC. The labradar fx (the new smaller one) only does MV too - which is why they will still sell the older Labradar alongside the FX. One other difference with the FX other than the aluminium case, is that it uses a 60Ghz radar compared to the 24Ghz of the Garmin. That means no power output regs for the FX. Technically your US import may be illegal to use in the U.K., but don't quote me on that.

@@UnCoolDad You mean because the Labradar will read out to 100yds instead of just muzzle? Agree, but that is absolutely pointless and is useless for BC calc on any centrefire system. Maybe on an airgun pellet?

@@thatgearguy I believe it can go further - 300 from memory, but that may be the full power US version rather than the power crippled EU version (it too uses 24ghz radar). Caldwell are also releasing a Doppler chronograph- the Velociradar. It is a full sized unit and will do BC with multiple readings down range. It uses yet another radar technology to do its business. Not sure if it is better or worse,but competition is a lovely thing - gives choices.

I’m in avid marksman and I see no reason for any piece of kit outside of an optic and rangefinder. I understand that the velocity of cartridges are inconsistent and that’s just the way it is. I don’t really understand why I would need a chronograph outside of a scientific setting.

Good luck at 2 kilometers without one! How do you create a drop chart if you do not know velocity?

@@thatgearguy most store-bought ammo at least in the United States is going to very quite considerably from cartridge to cartridge. There are so many variables going on that I don’t see a reason to make a dope (drop) chart. The temperature of the bore, manufacturing tolerances, the way the barrel is seated, whether or not the barrel is free floated, the harmonics of the gun, twist rate, etc. I’m only listing inconsistencies that you could control for. There are a number of inconsistencies that you cannot control for such as the way the ammo was made. Basically, I think it’s a waste of time to make a drop chart and you might as well make a controlled guess with a solid follow up. Also, you’re never going to be able to make a chart like that in a real life hunting/combat scenario so doing that is a bad habit. I think you euros (Brits in your case) treat shooting as more of a sport where us Americans think of it more as training. It seems like you guys really go for accuracy where we normally try to go for practicality. It’s just a different culture that forms from different legal environments.

@@thatgearguy also a drop chart cannot account for factors such as wind or the Coriolis effect (rotation/curvature of the earth)
