I bought the Z82 earlier this year for caddying and have to say it blows every other range finder I’ve ever used completely out of the water. I absolutely love being able to see the entire layout of a hole and yardages to hazards in the eye piece. As for image stabilisation when zapping a pin from say 150-200 it is awsome let’s face it further out than 200 it wouldn’t matter what range finder it is unless you’ve got super stable hands or carry a tripod it’s a lottery 😂 Ok it’s not all fantastic it does take a bit of getting used to when you put it up to your eye it does take a second or two to show the image in the eye piece and do remember it is a digital image as well albeit a very good image. The carry bag come on Garmin get that sorted it’s rubbish.

I liked the combination gps and range finder feature but I thought the image when you were trying to figure out a par 3 flag wasn't steady at all. I thought it needed a little more stabilization. Many times during a round it would turn off and I'd have to restart it and load where I was. I like my Bushnell Tour V5 a lot better. I think their next version may fix a lot of things in the Garmin, which could be better.

The image doesn’t look stable because I’m trying to hold it up with 1 hand to the camera and get the camera to focus 😂 tricky business. It’s a really stable image

1 star Cons 1. Hard to get back in stupid little bag. 2. Always gets disconnected from iPhone every 3 holes which you need for wind speed. 3. Green contours requires $$ for subscription, not worth it for just that feature. 4. Help support very frustrating, telling you to delete all garmin apps and remove pairing to fix disconnected issues. 5. If device is disconnected from iPhone and no Wi-Fi or poor cell reception you won’t be able to reconnect. 6. Crazy expensive for all the negatives. Love your vids mate

Thanks Gavin, with the phone connection you can still use the range finder through the round then sync to your phone at the end of the round when you have it connected again. A lot of smartphones will cancel Bluetooth connections if the unit is inactive for too long. Like putting your headphones back in their case, when you put them back in your ears again they’ll need to reconnect. They won’t stay connected while in the case.

Thanks for the review! I just recently tried all the Range Finder/GPS units…the Z82 was one of them. It’s a great unit. The others I tried were the Voice Caddie SL2 and Precision Pro R1. In the end, I returned all of them. For the Z82, you have to wait for it to start up every time you go to use it, so slow to react. It has no image stabilization. For this price point, it must have that. Also, for the additional gps function to see front-middle-back attachment that can also be used to track your clubs, there is no easy way to use that attachment. If you keep it attached to the unit (easier to read), you need to tap your club to the unit…and when it’s time to putt, you’d need to bring it with you to the green to tap it…not convenient. If you wear it on your belt, then you have to keep looking down at your belt to read the front-middle-back, or detach it and hold it in your hand. Again, not very convenient. Wish it had more of the function of the Arccos system where it activates when you swing. The case absolutely blows. Lastly, I didn’t find the screen quality very good. So, I’m back to using my Leopold laser unit and my Arccos system with my phone for the front-middle-back, distances to hazards, and club distances. The VoiceCaddie SL2 is much better overall, but the screen on it is small and with my vision (far sighted), I had trouble seeing it easily. If you have no issues with your vision, that’s the one to get for a GPS laser range finder, IMO. The Precision Pro R1 requires it to be linked to your phone to use its functions, so you can’t use your phone for scoring, etc…(I couldn’t use mine for my Arccos club tracking). So, that one was a no-go for me.

Sounds like you’d be much better suited to the Epix Gen 2 watch Pete. Pair that with the CT 10 sensors like I have and you’ve got the perfect solution 😁
@petegalindez9961
@petegalindez9961 Жыл бұрын
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I was thinking about that. But, I’ve been using Arccos for so long now, I’d lose all the data…I’ve paid for my yearly subscription with Arccos for this year, so I’ll stick with them for now…once the year is up, I may try the CT10s with the Garmin…I prefer the CT10 sensors over the Arccos…the Arccos ones are 9g each (almost a full swing weight), and because of the size, you need to be really careful when gripping the club to make sure you don’t grip the sensor, thinking it’s part of the club…I’m used to them now, but I think the CT10 sensors eliminate that all together. AND, the CT10 is one fee for life…no annual subscription…
@davidmaxfieldgolf
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
@@petegalindez9961 yeah just the cost of the censors for the CT10s no subscription at all. Honestly I can’t believe people pay for Arccos to be honest with you. You can get the same thing from the 18Birdies app for free with an Apple Watch just doesn’t make sense to pay annually for it
@petegalindez9961
@petegalindez9961 Жыл бұрын
@@davidmaxfieldgolf It wasn’t always a yearly subscription…and it’s nice that it just reads the shot without doing anything…no clicking, tapping, selecting…just swing and it knows what club you’re swinging. The sensor is activated when it’s taken out of the bag…it can tell the difference between a practice swing and real swing because it listens for the sound of hitting the ball. The post-round analysis is great too. And, when you play a hole you’ve played before, you hit the history button on your phone and it overlays the last 5 rounds worth of shots you’ve played for that hole so you can see what strategy is best. But, like you said, not sure it’s worth a subscription. So, this will be my last year with it and will try something else.
@petegalindez9961

@@davidmaxfieldgolf Hmm…after looking at the CT10s compared to the Arccos, there are some key differences. I can use the Arccos with my iPhone and use GPS, so I can move my landing spot around, and see where I would like to hit my shots…Doesn’t look like the CT10s are compatible with the iPhone and you need to get a Garmin watch to use the GPS tracking (but can’t select points on the course)…that’s a big expense…I already own about 10 watches, so don’t really need another one.

Just got the epix 2 had my first round today ,it picked up 2 shots out of 70 which shocked me have you had this problem ..I got an email from garmin saying they are aware of the problem .. a youtube review stated the epix 2 didn't register as many shots as the s62 but think his worked better than mine .. I'm a t hc and had lots of clean perfect shots and the watch didn't detect a thing . Also had issues of moving to next hole and the watch stayed on the last. The watch is great love the screen battery life etc but not detecting.shots is a major.issue for me .. I have the r10 as well great unit for the money..my hands are too shaky for a range finder 😆

You’ll need to start by plugging the watch into Garmin Express on a desktop and updating the watch. I got mine brand new out of the box also but the software was about 3 updates old. Do that and it will prompt you on ever shot. It will also update the maps for the holes etc

David, love your content! Need some advice. I know you are a Garmin ambassador and wanted to see if you have any suggestions. I just purchased a z82 from Golf Galaxy here in the US. I opened it in the store and it wasn’t charged. Took it home and charged it to have it drain 1% every couple seconds. I did return the device. I know the Z82 was released in 2020. How does Garmin deal with the battery issues? I really want to purchase one again but don’t think getting one from a brick and mortar store where they could have been sitting on the shelf for 2+ years is a smart idea…

I was shocked to find that this does not have a magnet to attach it to a golf cart. Also, it did not reliably find the pin. It often vibrated indicating that it had found the pin, only for me to repeat the process and realize that it had found a target other than the pin.
