Fine review! I have had one of these on my bike for about 2 weeks now and really like it. One thing I wanted to mention that I don't think you did in the video - the mount has a built-in charge connector that connects when the device is docked. The USB port on the back also works as a data port, or a secondary charge port. If you wire in the one built-in to the mount, then you don't need to use the USB one in addition.

The XT is actually powered through the mount. You don’t want to use the USB port to power it; it’s prone to failure due to vibration. Powering it through the mount works great and is very reliable. Also, I wouldn’t worry about the dust proofing. It’s waterproof; dust isn’t smaller than water molecules. You can always rinse it off after it gets dusty.

I used this GPS last August to do the trans America trail. 6100 miles up over and around from NY to Oregon. It never failed me dust, rain, snow, hail, drops (lots of em) and it just kept right on navigating. One thing to be careful with is make sure when you wipe the screen to use water to knock some of the dust off otherwise you will get micro scratches that won’t go away. My fault. Other than that I can’t say enough nice things about it.

Screen is 1/2 larger then previous Zumos, way brighter and easier to read. Use on car and motorcycle, great workaday all over usage GPS. Prevously had Zumo 660 and Zumo 595, the evolution of Zumo motorcyle GPS has been interesting. Maybe the 595 phone app was a bit fuller featured though.

Do your saved waypoints show up with a name? Garmin pushed an update to the Zumo 595lm that eliminated that feature. Now all you see is a waypoint icon with no indication of what waypoint it is. Left the GPS screen useless.

Have this coming on my Ducati DesertX (being delivered next week). Ducati has an accessory rail option that they sell along with this unit, mounts it above the Ducati TFT display. Ducati had Garmin put the 'DUCATI' logo on it instead of the 'Garmin' logo. With the low (stock) Ducati windscreen installed it looks good horizontal, with high windscreen (dealer option) installed it looks good vertical. The DesertX windscreens swap in about two minutes. I'm sure this Ducati setup is the most 'OE' looking installation available. Right down to the logo. This was my 2nd most wanted option available from Ducati on the DesertX, right after the Full Race Termi exhaust that includes the EVO race engine tune. Can't wait to start using it. Won't be listening to tunes on this bike for a while, exhaust will be the soundtrack. 😂

Just one short warning; don't drop it and crack the glass on display. If you do that there is no replacement glass/digitiser/LCD or any other way of servicing it. Garmin said it's not an repairable unit and offered a crash replacement (40% off the price of new Zumo XT). Nice of them for doing so but still feels wasteful as f#ck as the unit otherwise works perfectly. Worst part is that Zumo XT is expensive and you'll probably want to remove it from the bike when you leave it parked... and after you do that for dozens or hundreds of times there is a big chance you'll drop it on the floor. There is no Garmin or aftermarket rugged case for it. Also, it's far more easier to damage it (because of the new LCD screen) than Zumo 396 or older models. Real problem now for me is; I love it (despite some irritating software bugs) and I'll probably dish out more cash to Garmin for a new unit... although I absolutely hate and despise their "no repair policy".

I was using a garmin zumo 660 and was constantly having trouble finding satellites. The navigation was broken and the service couldn't fix it, so I paid some more money and bought a zumo 595. I was hoping they would have fixed the satellite problem, but this one has the same problem. Definitely not even close to the phone, terrible navigation. In the new product, instead of using type-c input, they used the old nonsense input. They are far behind the times in motorcycle navigation.

It’s best to have both though - for when it can’t find one or the other. On a phone you can just download the map before you go (most non-budget phones have a GPS receiver). These however have the maps downloaded, and rely on the phones for their live traffic updates. Only thing that bugged me is they always force you to use the app. It has some nice features, but I really just want the option to connect to wifi to get the live traffic so I can use a hotspot or an older smartphone or whatever. Personally the main advantage to me is that it protects my phone. Sure it’s Garmin so it’s expensive as all heck for what it is, but my phone is so much worse than just cost if it gets smashed, plus I used to work for an electronics company and bikes really do break smartphone cameras on the bars, even push bikes lol I suppose if you’re one of those morons that can’t leave their phone alone for 2 minutes, another advantage of a GPS over google maps is it takes away the temptation

My Samsung phone has GPS receiver and online maps, as well as offline maps just in case. Offline maps works like live internet maps. You can search for hotel, gas station or restaurant and so on. As many riders who use cell phones for navigation can attest, coverage is usually spotty in the best riding areas. For Adventure bike riders call coverage can be 100% non-existent in those good areas. Also, phones go dead, get dropped, are run over, get water damaged, are smashed and sometimes unusable after minor/insignificant falls......... Also, phone nav routing doesn't provide the flexibility of routing motorcycle GPS units provide. Does your phone have that touchscreen slider to adjust a trip route from quickest/paved roads, to slow, slower, slowest/fire roads, gravel roads? How about a bird's eye view of the terrain in a one mile radius of your location? This is an awesome feature, especially for ADV riders. Phone are fine for running to the local BBQ joint or Starbucks on a Saturday afternoon, but a GPS like this makes serious traveling on a motorcycle more enjoyable.

@@jamescampbell4334 Smartphones have the same capabilities as a Garmin. A Garmin can be lost, go dead, get dropped and not 100% waterproof etc. You need to check out what on and off road navigation apps there are and can do before you form any kind of opinion. Also BRP Go is used on watercraft AND Snowmobiles. The navigation for them is completely off-road and usable for dirt bikers. You obviously don’t know much about it or you wouldn’t be complaining. There are all kinds of apps that can be used for backroads and don’t require cell service as the GPS works independently of cell & WiFi. Also the iPhone 14 have emergency communication capabilities like Garmin InReach.

@@susierebelryder492 Complaining? I was pointing out the benefits of this Garmin over base cell phone Google navigation. Also the fragility of cell phones, especially Apple products in extreme environments. I always have my phone on me while using GPS systems, for use as a back up should the GPS fail.
