They forgetting that garps kids were the marines not Luffy or ace. Ace is his “grandson”(bros takin care of his favorite opp’s kid) but he told him to become a marine when he was a kid. And Garp was crying next to him telling em he should’ve listen, something ace has a pretty hard time doing. Garp pulled his punch against luffy and let him pass. Luffy at that time didn't stand a single chance against Garp. Like he said they chose this path. He wanted them to be marines. Those saying harp could’ve done something is literally stupid after he warned ace for twenty years to not be a pirate and letting puffy save him. Garp and koby are two different ppl if the ppl of the navy already have a conflict in akainu beliefs then garp comes out and goes against it that’s more problems in the marines and ace did get saved by garp by letting puffy pass. Garp knows the risk on both side that’s why he was neutral but he learned from marineford that family is number 1

Ace was going to be executed by the marines and Garp is a marine. Garp is or was the power house of the marines that shaped what the navy is today. So for him to step in to save a pirate that is regarded as a criminal, then what does that make of the marines. Garp was in a tough position. If he saved Ace that means he is no longer a marine that's over with.

Garp gave his kids their entire life to choose the "correct" path with the Marines. We know that in One Piece, everyone has their own lives, motivations, dreams, goals, statuses, morals, etc. Luffy explains this when he first finds out that Ace is in trouble, saying that he won't interfere because its Ace's own life to live. This is something that Ace backs up by telling Luffy to leave once he found out that Luffy was coming to save him.

I could be wrong, but wasn't it alluded that if Ace would've ask Garp to save him, Garp would've tried to save Ace?

Garp was willing to let ace go in a just fashion. Garp clearly believes that ace didn't live the way he advised him to. Aces death was the consequence of not listening to garp. Gaps entire way of thinking was shifting before our eyes. Garp didn't know that he had any kind of sympathy for his family. It was something that came out gradually leading to aces death. Garp learned a lesson when akainu killed ace...

At the end of day Garp had a decision to make and he picked the marines. 😂😂😂

Garp might have inspired all the people he trained to stop fighting. Not to mention it was televised. Regular people in our world might not know there Generals, but just the knowledge of a general going against his military could possibly cause riots all over a country.
