As an American, I only recently discovered Gary Barlow thanks to KZfaq. I have since watched most of his videos and purchased his CDs. He is phenomenally talented in every way and I'm so happy that he has achieved great success in the UK. I only wish that he was recognized in the USA.

@@715michala Ok, maybe not a legend, but certainly one of the most professional. He's made music for hundreds of artists, from derelict 90s pop acts to Elton John. Fuck Taylor Swift who only benefitted herself and overreached her power in politics. Gary, from day one, only cared about music and developing talent, even the harshest ways (X Factor).

@@joeridgechua he's OK Gary my fav over Robbie ( yuk) in take that years. But he's got a flat northern voice & can hear it if u have sensitive ears ;) Having said that , I do possess a GB album which isn't bad, a bit bland perhaps ?! But some of his stuff is above average when he writes for others like ' Guilty' track performed by Blue. Mind you , as Gary is mindful of money I'm sure he's coining it in from Royalties etc not to mention his many ' interests'

@@715michala Gary's style is 'flat' because he initially trained himself as a club pianist. He has this tendency to satisfy the crowd at the expense of artistic freedom, which is what Robbie sought post-breakup. I love Gary because he MASTERED his signatures. I prefer depth over variety or what fandoms call 'eras.'

I’m a Potato after take that broke up in the late 90's Gary had a solo career his 1st solo album did reasonably ok but his 2nd didn't do so well and his solo career ended up getting destroyed at least he can have all the solo success now as well as success in take that as well

All that happened in his past led him to where he is today and he seems quite happy with himself and his life. You can't keep a good man down and talent can only be suppressed for so long. I am happy that he is happy now.

I remember the media regularly slagging this guy off and never giving him the light of day, I bought the Open Road cd and was blown away how good it was, as a musician myself I appreciate singer songwriters and in my opinion, he is certainly up there with the best.

This song has always been close to my heart, from finishing high school in the nineties to now, I listen to this song regularly. Days where I feel rubbish I flip this on and it keeps me going. I’m glad the man from Frodsham is still,playing this great song to this day! Great to hear it again Gary!

I understand why fans liked take that shows back those days. I have been to Gary's solo concert - god, that was amazing! He doesn't need that show, dance etc. He was playing piano and singing- it was heaven!

Bought the album in 1997, after Forever Love the single from the album was released in 1996. I also listened to ‘so help me girl’ for the very first time in a HMV shop in Warrington with my mate Danny in one of the booths with the headphones. I remember thinking ‘now this is why I’m a massive fan’. The same Open Road CD has been in all my cars ever since! Now that’s a fan ;)

There's an idea that Mr Barlow's fan base is primarily women and gay men. I don't think this is true. I've become a fan of Mr Barlow's song writing talent in my 30's and I'm neither a gay man nor a woman. I also listen to a lot of alternative music. I have a lot of respect for this man's honest personality and ability to write well crafted pop songs.
