Returning to Qatar with just months to go before the first-ever Middle Eastern World Cup, I examine whether this small country in the Persian Gulf peninsula is ready to host the biggest tournament in the world.
Give it a watch and let me know what you think, if you like ❤️

To be fair, the FIFA that allowed hosting rights to Russia and Qatar were a different team headed by Blatter, obviously corruption took place. I would hope that FIFA now, under Infantino, isn't so bad as the last team and that the hosting rights are more thought through rather than who has the most money, we'll soon see.

Didn't expect this sort of content and I would've hoped you'd questioned not just the people working in Qatar, but the FA delegation too. Only a quarter of the way through and there's huge holes in what's been said regarding accommodation. Firstly, they're aren't cheap options going around (that was said by the FA people) and Qatar have encouraged people to give up a room to allow fans to visit but by doing so and the demand being large, they're extortionate too. There's a good TIFO Football video based on accommodation if people want a more realistic view on what's actually happening with that. Edit 1: Further on when talking about the worker's welfare and wages, Gary does raise his concerns and talking about the disparity in pay between workers and the people running everything there was a good thing to put in. I thought it was looking like a fluff piece with you talking about issues in minor detail but I was wrong about that. Why is everyone slating Gary? Are you serious? Okay, let me explain, just in case you really don't understand: In Qatar, society is not free. A few corrupt ruling elites own everything. The laws they make look something like this: If a woman is raped, she gets jailed for up to 7 years, while the rapist stays free. Did Gary ask about such a terrible mistreatment of women? No? I guess that's also just "culture that has to be accepted". The jailing rape victims culture. And that's just one terrible things out of a hundred. Gary asked about one issue that is controversial, and that was about the treatment of workers, and it was half hearted and he got back to licking boots of his Qatari paymasters in no time. One issue. Out of so many. And why? Because he gets payed by BeIn, which is owned by the Qatari government. This is a propaganda puff piece, glossing over all the issues. These World Cups that have been hosted in places that didn't/don't already have the infrastructure to host such an event have been shite football wise, e.g. South Africa & Brazil. There's a chance this might be different due the fact it's happening mid club football season, the players will be well and truly warmed up, but most likely the only entertainment we will get from it is the inevitable calamitous events that happen during it.

Brilliant video G Nev. I have been in the region for 12 years and the questions you probed the organisers with really pray on the expat community here. I agree with the summary at the end. So much still to do but the change in the last decade has been incredible. There is a massive ideological divide from the Middle East to the Western world. Many here would still argue that some of the more fundamental issues faced in the last 20 years were directly linked to clumsy Western intervention in the decades before. The changes to these developed nations linked with the justifiable criticisms from the Western media are helping to bridge this divide. I wouldn't write off this World Cup just based on how it looks right now. It could be a pivotal moment to look back in 50 years time.

Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and soon Saudi Arabia are now huge powers in this sport. Qatari-owned PSG's signing of Messi, resigning of Mbappe was all part of Qatar's quest to the very top of the game, and it is a part of wider sport-washing. Sport-washing, that by the looks of this film, has worked on Gary Neville, who spends his time whinging about US investment in the PL and is now distracted, while Manchester City and PSG sign 22-year-olds to the biggest contracts in the history of the sport. While he didn't actively avoid the controversy, his half-hearted attempt at interrogating these people is not good enough, but hardly surprising considering the wonderful contract beIN have put in front of him to work at this World Cup.

That is a misconception born in the West. You could argue women in the West are oppressed, hence why they are miserable and find themselves arguing against their male counter parts on a dialy basis. Making being Gay illegal shouldn't be your problem either. If you want to practice homosexuality, then go elsewhere. How have you decided adopting the gay culture is moral?
