Gary Oldman really is one of the greatest actors of all time. I saw Bram Stokers Dracula so many times, I still have it memorized. My friends and I would exit the theater, go to the bathroom and sneak right back in to watch it again. I remember being so excited to get a VHS copy of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead when my local video store went out of business. You couldn't buy a copy, so we used to just rent it a few times a month. I asked the manager how much it would cost if I just "lost" it, and it would have been $100....and this was a VHS in the early 1990's!! I think I payed about $20 for it and I still have it, the same copy I rented about 20 times.

GARY OLDMAN IS AMAZING! I saw State of Grace, then I saw Dracula, and I remember thinking wow, what a change of characters. It was a learning experience as a young man watching movies. When you are young movies have a great effect, and seeing an actor change roles, but still bring a story to life like that is a big eye opening experience. It show the craft behind the scenes.

Oldman takes that compliment with such grace. It’s really astonishing because most people struggle to actually accept a compliment- especially such a wonderful one- out of fear of seeming arrogant. Or, sometimes, they go the other direction and DO come across as arrogant, though that’s much rarer. Gary takes a moment while Jackman is talking to give a quick expression of being genuinely moved, then leans in and makes eye contact and listens intently and respectfully to him and then thanks him without making a fuss about how he doesn’t deserve the praise or downplaying it at all. That’s not arrogance, that’s showing a great amount of respect for Hugh in return, by listening and by accepting his opinion as valid. Really a master class right there. Sure, the man has probably heard similar things said before, but I’ve seen a lot of people who have doubtless received similar praise not impress me like that.

Gotta love how Hugh Jackman takes every chance he can get to give a hero their flowers. 😊
