this is pure gold delivered by a true master. i love the way he stresses that the hips and core are the engine of the golf swing, _not_ the arms. for the weekend player, it's very non-intuitive to shut off the arms during the swing, but necessary if you want any distance and accuracy. my own experience is to hit pure shots, you need to tap into your hips, have very relaxed grip/wrists throughout the swing, and turn agressively through impact while keeping the arms passive.

His impressions of Trevino, Palmer and Nicklaus's swings was spot on. Very amusing :).

One of the greatest men on the planet. Nothing but class and character and doing that he managed to win way more tournaments than any man or woman in the entire world. No one is even close to him. He's my hero along with Arnold Palmer that was one of Gary's best friends.

This man is class. He also expressed quite a bit of concern for the future of professional golf. The man still cares. With so much passion and knowledge, he is easily a leading role model for touring professionals.
@wreckim6 жыл бұрын
He dumps on the average golfer's swing for a reason. We pretty much suck compared to a professional. It doesn't take rocket science to plainly see the difference in talent and technique of a great golfer compared to even most single digit handicappers. Player is a great story teller, like Trevino---and he uses exaggeration to make points. I love his optimism and his constant search and dedication to a "you can do it" attitude. To me, it's motivational, and I need to do my 4 sit-ups right now.
@andersborum92675 жыл бұрын
Great points and I agree. Am personally having more focus on flexibility these days at the gym (not that I'm skipping weights, but have completely ignored flexibility before and now that I'm coming back to golf it's pretty evident how much this particular part matters in a good swing - and to prevent sore muscles).

Basic by true, simple and powerful advice. To learn this, a golfer must exercise a bit, and experience trial and error to learn the feel. His step over move with the right foot is the best drill to do to shift the weight properly to the left side (for a right handed player).

Everything I've ever been taught about Golf stemmed from Gary Player. I started when I was 4 years old. He's the reason that I can take a 4 iron blade and hit it 225 yards without sneezing, and hole just about any put in a 15 ft radius. First time, every time! This man's principals made me fall in love with the game. They also molded my grandfather into the real champion golfer that he's always been through his amateur career.

Mr. Player is a remarkable Golfer/Athlete/Businessman! I wonder how mmuch formal education he had growing up? Anyway, Mr. Payer's longevity is testament to the fact that he was way ahead of his time. By determining early in his career that by eating small high quality meals and ensuring that he was physically fit year round that despite his diminutive stature he could complete at a High Level every time he teed it up anywhere on the Planet. Last, I believe you get what you focus on, so focus on what you want. Mr. Player did just that and I believe he is one of the top five greatest golfers in the History of the Game! #Legendary #Grewthegameglobally #raceman

I took the part he said about the stomach turn all the way down to your knees to the course the first time and I've never hit the ball better. I have come down from19 to 16.And I know it will get better by the end of summer. I think its the bast advice about the mechanics of the swing I've ever heard.I always thought to generate power it was in your arms.If he ever see's this I would like to thank him.Thanks.

Some of the power can be in your arms. Lacrosse and hockey players do it all the time. Whatever works best for you. Just don't overpractice it.

funny how he predicted how players will be big hitters built like crazy athletes. dustin, jason, finau, brooks etc. and he also predicted that they need to change the ball to shorten the distance. great player, great mind.
@gmonkey65236 жыл бұрын
Crazy athletes like Patrick Reed. lol. Massive men like 5'9 Rory.
@gmwilliams43145 жыл бұрын
@irvinlee I agree completely. It's like Mr. Player was prophetic! I have read fairly recently that he still thinks that Golf hasn't seen anything yet. He believes that the game will eventually attract someone as physically, mentally and as disciplined as Mr. Lebron James who will render all courses obsolete. By the way, a lot of Modern Course Designers agree with Mr. Player assessment of regulating the balls distance at the very least for the Professional's. #greatestlittlegolferinhistory #halloffame
