Botallack Mine Cornwall - Scariest adventure!

In this video, I photograph the Botallack Mine in Cornwall.
A few weeks ago I headed to the Devon area on a landscape photography adventure. Whilst I was in the area I decided to head a little further southwest to Cornwall to grab a few images of the Botallack Mine.
Part 1, 2 & 3 tinyurl.com/e4...
To say the weather was a little windy was an understatement! If you've ever been to the mines, you'll already know that the view opposite is a little scary to get to. Ok, so the word scary might be a little dramatic. But it certainly is scary when the wind is gusting. Especially if you're a big unit like me 😁
To get to the best area to photograph the mines you have to walk a thin path with extremely steep drops to both sides. Drops that you aren't coming back from if you know what I mean!
I hope you enjoy the video.

As someone who was born (and raised) in a house at Botallack, it’s nice to see it being given a fair representation of what it’s like there! Glad you had a good time. Great video

Another belter of a vid Mr Gough !!!! Talk about making the best of a scene. Welcome to the West Coast mate where no weather forecast is ever right. I love those industrial sites, they are spectacular AND incredibly sad too, to think of the life them men had to make a landowner so very wealthy at the expense of the local folks. Keep capturing them places Gary, one day they will be gone and no-one will know or care they were ever there. Photographers like you are the custodians of our past - in safe hands with you lad.

I have done this shot Gary and as you say not for the faint hearted going over the walk, but its so worth it. The climb back up nearly killed me plus all the earache off the wife for doing it at my age 73. One place to remember.

My favourite stretch of coastline in Cornwall - St Just to Pendeen. I love the 'Crowns' Been there many times and has always been a challenge to photograph. That pathway is getting narrower every year.

All beautiful shots Gary, love the 2.5sec ones both in colour and B&W, shows the wildness of the water and nice light on the face of the mine shaft buildings. “Blowing a hoolie” reminds me of the top of Wideford Hill on Orkney, will be there next week with the wife, dog and camera 😉

Hi Gary... On your previous video I inquired about the NISI filters as I even managed to spell it incorrectly, lol...You are indeed in a very special location & I'm glad to see the hoolies didn't blow you off the cliff! Stunningly beautiful photographs & in truth most of us know it isn't so much the equip. we use but all those other little things that go into making that photograph something truly special & in that respect you have once again succeeded wonderfully... Keep 'em coming sir... Bill on the Hill... :~)

Loved the video Gary. It's a fabulous location and I have been lucky enough to have been there twice now with another visit planned in 3 weeks time. Last time I was there I almost walked across that narrow path but decided against it as like your visit the wind was blowing a Gail so I decided it was just a bit to risky. Glad you made it over in one piece lol. Great photos as always.

Yay! You did visit Cornwall. There is a long standing joke that Cornish miles are longer than any other miles. You need to come down here again when the weather is good as it is beautiful here, there are so many places worth photographing. Some places in Cornwall are great when the wind is strong as you get amazing dramatic seas (that is why we are famous for surfing) but it can be dangerous so you need to take care. Glad you stayed safe. Your pictures of Botallack were amazing. You are so talented!

Great vlog! Watching our trepid explorer risking life and limb for us! I know that we photographers' do not wish to carry more weight than necessary, however, you may wish to purchase a metal-tie dog corkscrew which you place under the tripod then connect a bungee - cord from the corkscrew to underneath the tripod then you shall have a very secure footing. I am not suggesting that you carry one on every outing, but keep in the car for those extraordinary windy days. As always Gary, love your vlogs and enthusiasm.
